Are these things just a meme, or are they actually useful?
>>
>>28663619
oh look it is this thread again.

yes they are a piece of cloth. a piece of cloth can be useful. fuck off
>>
>>28663634
lol
>>
>>28663619
Yes, being made of cloth it has a multitude of uses. You can use it to fucking hang yourself for needing the input of a Somalian knitting club on the uses of a piece of fucking cloth
>>
>>28663619
It's a towel, don't forget to bring a towel

can be an improvised scarf.
>>
They keep dust and sun off you, that's what they're meant for. If you don't live in a dusty sunny area then don't wear one. Even if you do ... don't wear one
>>
They are very useful. Wearing one keeps dust out of your face, sun off your neck, and alerts other middleschoolers around you that you play airsoft.
>>
>>28663666

>If you don't live in a dusty sunny area then don't wear one.

Fuck off, they are really neat in Cold weather
>>
>>28663619
Is that a baklava?
Great for running in the cold. Also keeps the sand and sun off you.

Go survivor man and piss on it, suck piss through the mesh. BOOM, improvised camel back.
>>
>>28663619
Keeps your face warm in winter. Large cloth object. Useful.

>>28663666
>>28663865
Fucking this. I wear mine when it's below 30.
>>
>>28663619
I always thought they looked cool but wouldnt do much. I bought one for a 27 mile hike / 7 day camping trip and it was fucking amazing. I wore it most of hte day when it was 55ish degrees and it kept my head the perfect temperature, I slept with it on at night when it was low 10's and it still kept my head warm.
>>
Live innadesert. Not even operator. Wear one all the time while hiking.
>>
>>28663666
you the same dude calling theses "stolen valor"?

Get a neck gaiter and a hat or just a balaclava.

HOLY SHIT I JUST IMAGE SEARCHED BAKLAVA. I meant balaclava. I think....
>>
I wore one of these for years. Still have it in my room. I wore it as a gay scarf.

My buddy was sell xbox games for cheap so I bought about 8 games and realized I didn't have a backpack and then I remember I saw a thread for survival shit here on /k/ and I turned it into a bag and wrapped the games in it and carried it home.

Yes they are useful

is "is ____ a meme?" a meme now?
>>

Everything is a FUCKING meme
>>
>>28663999

i fucking hate the word meme so god damn much
>>
>>28663619
no idea why /k/ gets triggered by this

a face wrap is great for cold weather, to disguise a face shape without painting yourself which is a nuisance

worn around the neck it can stop some sweat, also to stop sand and dust getting in your shirt

I prefer a balaclava, but whatever

No, I just think they look like hipster trash
>>
>>28663992
Apparently so. It's being thrown around way too much lately
>>
>>28663647
Should I bring 42 of them?
>>
I have a couple and I've used them once. Was camping on a small island in Sweden and there were these flies that would constantly try to fly in your ear. Fucking disgusting, annoying fuckers. Put on my jihad hat and gave one to my buddy and we collected firewood undisturbed from then on.

I would not wear them in the current 'climate' tho.

They're comfy as shit in the desert. I like it as a scarf when operatan, it keeps my neck from getting burned and also protects your neck from chafing from rifle sling or PC. If you set it up right it acts as a pad to make the weight of a slung rifle more comfy while still letting you use a thin and light sling.

They make ones without the checkered pattern and in more civvie colors if you don't want to look like a mooslim or a wannabe operator.

They're also really good at cleaning dust and sweat off goggles or glasses, and if you're the kind of /k/ommando who likes taking too many pics of your guns, they make a good backdrop to do it on.
>>
holy fuck people are retarded here. i wear mine when i bike at under -10 f and its fucking great.

Yes, for the same reason that bandannas are.
It is bigger than a bandanna, which is why I prefer them. I don't wear it in public.

I've been thinking about getting one for shooting/coyote killing in the desert. I usually go by myself so I don't need to worry about folks thinking I'm a hipster. Would it actually be useful? Do you soak it in water or something?
>>
>>28667694
Traps the moisture form your sweat.
>>
>>28663619
they great when using a microphone, stop your ps from popping if you lack one of them grills that catch the popping in mid air and divert them to ground.
>>

I was wearing one while I was shoveling during the blizzard. Definitely worked and super comfy. My middle eastern neighbors did give me a double take though.

I don't even know what a meme is anymore
>>
>>28667694
Another desertfag here.

In the summer, don't soak it in water, sweat will do that quickly enough.

Water goes in you, not on you.

Best use is to keep the sun off of your head/neck/shoulders. It also does a good job of wicking sweat and staying cool via evaporative cooling if you're moving or have a slight breeze.

>>28663944

I like them. They're pretty good at keeping you warm, keeping the sun off you, they look interesting, and they helped me blend in with the hipster crowd around Seattle.

Also they make geat gifts, especially the ones meant for women. I pick up a huge stack for cheap every deployment and give them out as gifts when I get back. Everybody loves them.

Also it's worth noting your typical "operator" styled shemagh- like the on in OP's picture- are made with much thicker and rougher material then ones you'd see in Afghanistan/Middle East. The ones I've got are a lot softer and lighter.
