All battleship surface fleet.

The latest and greatest long range anti air missiles and missile defense system, always.

No "all or nothing" armor scheme... ALL ARMOR.

LRLAP and scramjet shells for the main guns. The main guns can also fire cruise missiles. This is so missiles can be kept safely inside the armored hull without the weakness of VLS tubes.

The ships will have torpedo tubes with super long range supercavitation capabilities.
>>
just buy a buncha LCS, with some additional weaponry/range.

And then buy some armed ice breakers for northern work.

Trimaran hull, nuclear powered, and carrying multiple laser CIWS mounts on a tall mast / pagoda (for that extra response time/range).

Buy into UK's Global Combat Ship, aka the Type 26.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Combat_Ship

Do two builds in the UK and outfitting Canada before letting Canada build the rest.

Seriously, you get everything from the Iver Huitfeldt-class and more.
>>
>>28641159

When it comes to modern Military marine design and engineering, I really hate that dunce hat radar/ radome thing.

It just feels so outta place with the rest of the ship.

If they could somehow angle it without any compromise, that'd be great.

Yeah, I recall that the reason they design them like that as its something to do with improved detection for sea skimming missiles.
>>
>>28641207
Iveco LMV:
>take door hinges from civilian Iveco, put on bulletproof door at 6 times the weight
>surprised when doors fall of the car on a routine basis due to weight.

>cab of LMV(blast proof cell) develops cracks due to flexing of chassis under normal usage, needs replacing.

> Engine is from civilian Iveco, underpowered and drinks oil. On the old versions the crankshaft would break due to the fan being unbalanced.

>Suspension is overloaded from the start, breaks all the time. 4 people and their weapon, any more and its overloaded

> instead of leaving a 5cm gap, have to take of half the front, the intercooler, the ac-unit, radiator and 50 other pieces just to change the generator/fan belt

>want to change the gearbox oil? Hah, no dip-stick for you, sucker. You need a fucking diagnostic computer and the better part of a day.

>interior designed for south European midgets, if you are over 180 cm your knees, back, ass and neck will be in for some hard times. Also, the seats are from Iveco's special "Agony" series.

>LAV versions 1-3 have completely different schematics, even though most of the components are the same. Also, electrical charts are in good old Italiano, so makes zero sense. We are talking about Alfa-quality here

Only good thing i can say about them was that the 4x4 and low-range was fucking epic. Just a shame that the frame gets torqued to hell from basic Afghan outback.

cant say anything about the FREMM, only the Spanish F100-ships that we were tricked into buying.

KEK.

Either way, I think Canada needs at least some ice traveling capability and they'd be far better off (and get them quicker) if they just mooched the designs from Finland's Laivue 2020 ships.
>>
>Size
150 m with a displacement of 6000 tonnes. Good enough to accommodate a decent sized crew and have a large enough flight deck for 2 ASW helicopters.

>Propulsion
CODAG or (if reliable enough) that new IEP system the Type 45 and Zumwalt have, where gas turbines and diesel generators power 2 electric motors connected to the propeller shafts. Should be able to reach 30 knots and have a range of >5000 nmi.

>Sensor suite
Thales integrated sensor suite with APAR (AESA X band radar) for medium range 3D air and surface tracking and the SMART-L EWC (AESA D band radar) for BMD capabilities. Aegis could be an option but the radar is still PESA, has a lower radar horizon and needs a separate fire control radar.

>Armament
48 cells Mk41 VLS with a combination of SM-2/3/6 and quadpacked ESSMs
2x dual torpedo launchers with Mk46 torps
8x Harpoon or NSM
2x SeaRAM CIWS
1x Oto Melara 127/64 gun with long range Vulcano rounds
4x .50 machine guns

>Countermeasures
ECM suite
SRBOC
Torpedo decoy

And all this in a nice stealthy package like pic related.

The last previous class (Type 23) only stopped being delivered in 2002. That's fairly reasonable if you consider that three other classes (OPVs, destroyers and carriers) have been build between the Type 23 and Type 26.

Type 26 is a perfect fit. It has the requisite Mk41 silos to put whatever you need into it, but it frees up space in them by having CAMM separately. Because CAMM is cold launched, it needs tiny silos and thus is very VERY cheap to integrate into the hull.

As such, it takes up no Mk41 space, meaning you'll have 24 strike length VLS slots to fit in whatever you want. Be it longer ranged SMs, LRASM, NSM, ASROCs...whatever you want. It's also already being built with the Mk45 Mod4, a gun that it would do well for Canada to share the American supply line with. It's also pre-equipped with a very good (and affordable) AESA, the Artisan 3D and a HUGE mission bay.
Very good choice.

>Either way, I think Canada needs at least some ice traveling capability and they'd be far better off (and get them quicker) if they just mooched the designs from Finland's Laivue 2020 ships.

I'm pretty sure that Canada needs ocean going ships. I also doubt that slightly bigger than usual corvette is big enough for their requirements. Recently retired minelayer Pohjanmaa was only ocean going ship in Finnish Navy, rest are low draught vessels purpose built for Baltic conditions and archipelago.

Except the USN disagrees with you, the Zumwalt, Gerald R. Ford and LCS classes are all designed to minimise RCS.

Littoral Combat Ships are going to operate inside the range of ground based missile and air cover

The Zumwalt is basically a trans-oceanic LCS, not a surface combatant

Any RCS on a carrier is just going to take it from Alaska Hueg to Texas Hueg on radar

I'd just license build a few Arleigh Burkes for battle and LCS (for mine sweeping/anti piracy/anti sub patrols). I'd just fit them with the same weapons/helicopters as the americans for commonality.
>>
>>28645366
texas is bigger than alaska...

>>28645390
Burkes are wildly overpriced but I'm sure the canadian govenrment will waste outrageous amounts of money on these new ships anyways.
>>
>>28645366
So every new designed ship in the USN (and pretty much every navy in the world) has measures to minimise its RCS, right. But it doesn't really matter.

Why the hell wouldn't RCS matter in the open ocean any way?
Imagine a Tu-142 hunting for a CBG, if the radar detects the non-'stealthy' group at 400km rather than 300km or 350km its going to eat a bunch of Kh-22s much sooner.
Its really blindingly obvious, isn't it?

You'd be paying 3 times as much as they're worth, lel. They're also complete overkill for a nation like Canada. I doubt Canada's defense budget is even big enough to fill up all the 96 VLS cells of multiple ships.

Canada is better off shopping in Europe if they want a license-built ship. UK, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark and Norway all have modern combatants, many of them built for a fraction of the price of a Burke. Zeven Provincien-class of the Netherlands (6000t destroyer with modern APAR/SMART-L AESA radars, 40 cells VLS with SM-2/ESSM, 8x Harpoons, 4x torpedos, 2x CIWS) cost €500m a pop. Now check the price of a Burke.

Also mine sweeping can't be combined with those other tasks. The hull of a mine sweeper needs to be anti-magnetic thus not from steel. For anti piracy you can just use a cheap OPV off the shelf. Anti-sub warfare can be combined with air-defense into 1 frigate/destroyer if you add torpedos, a hull mounted sonar, towed array sonar and do some acoustic quieting to the hull.
