This will serve as an unboxing and table top review thread for the Girsan 1911 tactical. Model MC1911S.
I promised to review it when I put it on layaway in December so hopefully I can keep the thread alive long enough for people to find interest.

General information
>M1911A1 copy made in Turkey by Girsan
>Chambered in .45acp with a 5" barrel
>Single action only (Duh) with an aluminum trigger that I measured at 5.5lbs
>Uses standard 1911 magazines, ships with a single 8 round magazine made by ACT-MAG in Italy

Alright let's just get to it, disassembly.

>Full length guide rod
>Standard bushing
>Crazy reflective barrel
>Very nice Novak style sights, for the price I am blown away

A note from disassembly, the frame/slide fit is fucking ridiculous. Makes almost no noise when you shake it, no movement when you grip the slide and fame in opposite hands. Very tight, but the slide still slid off like silk.

The sights are flat black Novak style and sit nice and high on the gun. I have no trouble picking them up in good lighting conditions and while I'd put a fiber optic or Tritium front sight on for CC these will do excellent for the range.

But, there is a problem. The fucking Girsan 1911 line does not use standard 1911 grip screws.

There are four possible solutions to this problem so you can use after market grips

>Have a gunsmith remove the stock bushings and tap the frame for GI bushings
>Buy a matching set of four metric hex head screws that fit the stock bushings, you can do it but you won't have the GI look. It's pure aesthetics.
>Reduce the head size of the stock screws so they fit aftermarket grips (Cheapest option if you want wood grips) they are the right height just too wide for GI grips
>The fourth option is what I went with, just get a set of Houge rubber grips, the rubber allows the over sized screw heads to squeeze down and sit flush, they also hold the grips on tight as hell

Now, if you choose to make the grip screws narrow enough for standard grips the best way to do it us chuck them in a drill or dremel and use a file and sand paper to size them down evenly. Take a little at a time and check for fit often.
>Pic related

Cool, here is the last bit of info, please ask any questions you have.

>>28637134
Surprise! I bought two.

This is going to be an experiment, I want to really work these guns out and let /k/ know how good/bad they are. They might be rock stars, they might be heaps of shit, I'm spending my money and taking the risk for you.

Here is how it will work.
>One pistol will remain stock for the course of testing
>One pistol will be given cost effective upgrades that are focused on improving reliability and shootability while keeping the over all price as low as possible.

The work to be done is as follows.
>Polish feed ramp barrel and frame with dremel polishing kit (Free, I own the tools already)
>Replace all springs in the gun with Wilson Combat springs, including an 18.5lb recoil spring ($15, I have them already)
>Polish the contact points on the trigger and other internal components for improved trigger pull and reduced chance of ice/frost having something to hang on to and choke the gun (I live in Alaska)

>>28637325
>>28637274
Total cost (As promised)
>MC1911S
$350 each
>Shipping
$25 for both guns
>Transfer fee

>Total
$765, or $382.50 each gun out the door.

>Wilson combat spring kit
$15 each
>Houge grips
$10 each

>Grand total for black tactical beginners 1911 with reliability and action improvement and new grips

How is .35 Rem as a cartridge?
>>
>>28638114
You know, I'm thoroughly amused at how lazily your Model 8 ejects your rounds.
>>
>>28638145
Different anon, have the same gun and a 336 chambered in 35 rem.

Ammo is not easy to find
It is easy to reload, very versatile.

It is a fun to shoot, chunky little cartridge designed to fell any game one might encounter in North America. At ranges less than 150yrds, it preforms very well.

God's very own deer round. When the Model 8 was first put on the market (110 years ago, mine is 107 years old) they were called the "One Ton Gun" because they had chamberings packing 2000ft/lbs of muzzle energy. They were primarily dangerous game pack rifles because you could dump 5 rounds of fuck you on a bear as fast as you could pull the trigger.

Modern .35 Rem is even more powerful.

>>28638143
I got mine for $400
>>
>>28637137
It's Italy anon. In Italy things are either amazing or shit when it comes to engineering. There is no in-between.

Also, every single Model 8 and 81 ever made is a takedown rifle. Cool as hell.

>>28638178
Top ejecting glory. Helps me save brass

>>28638186
It really is a great round, shame it's so hard to find components.
>>
>>28638193

Thank you for the poster anon
>>
>>28638232
I enjoy it immensely.

The only component I have any problem with is brass. Nearly every 357 mag bullet is a 35rem bullet waiting to happen.

Go look into them, coolest guns ever. Bonnie and Clyde got shredded by one with extendo mags.

I need to hunt down some Unique+.357 mag 158gr plinking recipes.

>>28638268
No problem, I love sharing that stuff. (Wow, my Girsan 1911 thread went another direction entirely)
>>
>>28638320
I just made some plinkers today out of 160gr solid lead scroggins and 30grs of H4895.

And good luck trying to find Unique. I have not seen any for sometime in stores, which sucks, because I need it for 7.62 nagant loads.
>>
>>28638351
>TFW I got two pounds on Unique in front of me.
That's cool, I'll have to look more into loads for it.
>>
Can you post a pic of the girsan next to another common handgun for size comparison?
>>
>>28638399
Sure, give me a minute.

You want them by the Makarov, Sig P228, CZ, or the Shield?
>>
>>28638428
228 please
>>
>>28636364
Better.
/k/ is just full of RIA fanboys, but indeed Girsan and Tisas are just as good if not better. And often cheaper.

The casing is just from the function test, it's invluded so places like CA can retain it in the police choose to, but it being in the case means nothing

But it means everything, without the case you can't have the bullet.

Point.

Thread has ded. Not a ton of interest in $350 1911 I guess.
>>
>>28640185
personally I wouldn't mind getting a S&W 1911 here sometime in the future.
>>
>>28640221
Bet the $350 turkshit 1911 out preforms it.
>>
>>28636224
>UPDATE

I think I figured out why the grips are so thick.

They used a very poor quality of wood with crumbly porous veins running through it. It's stabilized with about a gallon of lacquer each side, and between that and the sheer thickness they're not going to break, but making GI thickness grips from this stuff would cause cracking. The over sized grip screws is likely another way yo distribute force to avoid cracking.

Honestly, I get the wood grips on the GI model. But they should have shipped the tactical with synthetic grips over these.

>Not going to cry over a $350 1911 though.
>>
>>28640459
Does anyone know if getting decent quality wood is difficult in Turkey? Why would they use this shit?
>>
Sent an email btw :)
>>
>>28640496

>Does anyone know if getting decent quality wood is difficult in Turkey? Why would they use this shit?

To make it cheap?
>>
>>28641031
Well yeah, but you'd think using twice as much wood and lacquer to keep them from breaking would be offset by just using good wood.
>>
>>28640301

Good thing it's not an abomination.

Seriously though, I'm impressed. This is pretty cool. I have even been riding the slide forward with my hand and can't get it to FTF with an empty case.

Also, one of the cheeky fucks ITT bough the last Girsan from the website I linked.
