Do they do anything better than any other kind of holster or are they pretty much just for noir detective wannabes?

great if youre
>sitting for long periods
>want to carry full sized or bigger guns
>don't mind/have to wear heavier clothing
>have back problems that make IWB uncomfortable
>want to play spy/detective/bootlegger

I always say you should at least try them once, theyre a really cool niche thing but not for everyone. Wearing them feels like wearing a backpack if youre used to IWB or OWB, and you need to get quality to custom level ones to be good. they also get tangled very fast to have a separate hanger to keep it on
>>
>>28632745
Good for pulling the gun sitting down

stupid idea that ive had
take a regular shoulder holster, but instead of having the holster under the arm in hangs down on the hip, like a regular OWB holster and clips on to the belt. This takes weight off of the hip and pants area while still giving you the function of a hip holster. Almost like a pair of suspenders
>>
>>28632831
shoulder holsters you can attach to your belt exist
though its counterintuitve to using it properly
for you want the holster as far up into your armpit as possible

the lower you go as seen in most media the more it flops around
>>
They're pretty old fashioned, but still have their uses if you don't mind having to wear a cover garment and want to carry something fuckhuge.
>>

My grandpa carried in one as a union rep in the 40s-70s.
I want a good one.

Cool but not really that good unless your job requires you to sit in a vehicle all day or other cramped space and also to be armed. So yeah not much use to anybody other than cops or maybe the crewmen of aircraft and other military vehicles.

That said I plan on getting a nice one for my GP100 because I like the idea of having a holster (and holders for mags) for each of my pistols. At least the ones that would be useful for self defense or hunting and if not the GP100 then what?
>>
I prefer them.

But some of the posts concern me

I bought a cheap one, just to try it out. I like it alot, had to adjust it quite a bit, but im looking into droping $300 for a nice leather one.

It always bothered me, taking a piss with my owb holster, but this shoulder holster fixed alot of the problem. Shitting is another story, have to take belt off to poo...
>>
>>28635708
I have a galco Miami II rig for my Glock 26 I carry in the winter, and as a backup for work. They are a little stiff when you first break them in, but I've had mine now for about 2.5 years and love it. If you are going to buy a shoulder rig, buy a good leather one. I bought a nylon condor for 17 bucks for shits and giggles and it is borderline unusable.
>buying condor
yeah I know, just curious and for the price I was willing to take a risk.
>>
>>28635731
nobody does either of those things. certaintly not purse carry at least

So long as you understand it isn't a quickdraw system - it's a carry system, and some are more concealed than others.

Chilling at the office where a CCW peeking through the back of your pants could get you fired, makes a lot more sense to find more creative and comfortable ways to carry. Safe to say a subcompact here is a must.

Just understand the limitations - again, not a draw system. It's meant for you to have your gun on you, concealed. That's it. Drawing will take 5+ seconds to unbutton your shirt and get it out.
>>
>>28638396
>Safe to say a subcompact here is a must.
is that for wearing just a shirt? I was planing to carry my cz 75 under my heavy jacket in this manner with a little .380 as my 'quickdraw' weapon
>>
>>28639056
If you can drop a human with .380, why do you also need to carry a handcannon?

If you *can't* drop a human with .380, why are you fucking around with quickdraw in the first place?
>>
>>28638192
Sir, those are empty.
>>
I carry my 92fs with a vertical one I wear a jacket at pretty much all times so it isn't too big of a deal

Given the suit and old school fedora, he's probably at a Zoot Shooters event. It's like cowboy action shooting, except everyone dresses up 1930's gangster style and shoots period appropriate guns.
>>
>>28639703
That actually sounds really fun, despite how much cringey shit probably happens.
>>
>>28639719
It's basically three gun in suits. Pistols have to be shot one handed and weapons have to be period correct. it looks like fun, though. Most people run a semi auto for the handgun, but a few folks run a 1917 revolver with half moon clips.
>>
>>28638396
>Drawing will take 5+ seconds to unbutton your shirt and get it out.

>ohshit emergency
>guy going postal at work
>better sit here and slowly unbutton my shirt

Fuck no, if that happens you'd better be fucking ripping your shirt open. And drawing without anything in the way is quite damn almost as fast as IWB.
>>
>>28639979

You can, or you can just unbutton one button near the middle of your chest, reach in and grab it. Unless you're using a big frame or something with a pronounced hammer to catch on stuff, you should be ok to draw without any problems.

Things like a PF9 / M&P Shield / LC9 / Snub nose, etc...

For when you want to CC your 8" barreled revolver and actually have it be concealed.

I have CC'd a 14" barreled Contender, with scope, with a shoulder holster under a winter coat.

Getting too close to the bowl when flushing can rip your ass right off, because of the suction.

Back when me and all the other kids in town would play airsoft in the local woods, I used to put on a shoulder holster for my spring 1911. That was always the most satisfying way to carry an extra gun but it was a flimsy cloth holster from sports authority so even a plastic toy wore it out to an unusable state after a few months.

Moving to a free state soon and will be getting a leather one for CC under my usual jacket.

That's what the belt loops are for. S&W 6" 686 in a shoulder holster hangs just fine. But I need a baggy coat to hide it.
>>
I wear a leather jacket for the duration of winter, so I love having a shoulder holster. It's pretty comfortable and I get to carry a full size

You do NOT need to wear thick clothing, just find an oversized Windbreaker (preferably waterproof) and tear out the insulation.

If it's loose-fitting, it should help counteract printing.

I use a shoulder holster rig, and yes there is a difference in draw tip. Hip holsters are more natural and one swift movement, but with a good shirt or jacket and the right comfortable shoulder holster there isn't that much of a notable difference. Its still there but youre not fumbling through your cloths or anything. And if youre sitting its way easier to get to
