So I got orange osage from someone on here. Got it last night. Gonna use it to make knife scales.
I want to make a /k/nife. If you have a cool design I'd like to hear it. I currently have a piece of 1/8"X1 1/2"x12" 1095 that I can use. I've made about 8 knives in the past. I still suck but I'm getting to a point where they don't always suck.
I'm not sure how to word this thread, I feel like I'm butchering it but if I get a cool design I'll make it and document it along the way. Might take a bit as its cold as balls up here. But it is supposed to be nice enough this weekend I could make the knife itself then and so the scales later.
Pic related is the osage
Great looking wood, what tools do you plan to use on it?
Got a saw to make the initial cuts, then a bandsaw to get then general shape of the scales. Then I finish with a hand file. Pretty labor intensive but I like the way they come out.

>letting someone on /k/ send you a parcel
I would actually love to learn how to make a knife. Does anyone have any cool resources on knife making? I'd be interested to see how your knife turns out OP.
>>28607092
Curved handle for better grip maybe?
>>28607582
YouTube, there are a lot of people who make videos and I might try make a knife soon
>>28607582
Get a piece of steel and a belt grinder.
>>28607582
It's decently easy. My first knife was made with a weed burner, my fire pit, eBay file, and belt grinder.
Pic very much related
Full tang,
Tungsten core, Damascus carbon steel exterior.
Heat treated and Titanium Carbide coating.
Handle, full carbon fiber with ergonomics with rubber coating and stipple texture.
Dyneema fiber that's woven into knots On the handle. Between the grip and blade.
Serratted too.
>>28607092
/k/ actually designed a knife a few years ago. This was it.
>>28607092
What do you want to use the knife for?
Defense?
EDC?
Bushcraft?
Hard use?
>>28609134
I'm confused by the one on the right. But I could make the one on the left.
>>28609407
I can design my own for that purpose, was just seeing what a /k/nife would be like. Myself, I like general purpose camp knives. Like an esee. Pic related is my ESEE clone I did for a secret Santa present. First time fucking with mica era, I clearly need more work.
>>28609134
>/k/ designs a shitty knife that could possible slice your fingers when used
>said knife also has a memename
never change NEETlords
>>28607092
make this youll coward
>>28607462
If that wood hasn't been properly dried, either by kiln or air, it's going to basically fuck up whatever you do within a month or three.
>>28609855
Guy who sent the wood here, it was dried in a basement for a year.
>>28609997
Guard/hilt thing could be hard but the rest could work!
>>28609851
Is it weird if I'm tempted? If I had longer steel or had my forge set up I could probably do that from a leaf spring.
>>28609899
Forgot to post the boss knife you made!!
He sent this with the wood, what a champ.
>>28607092
If your steel is shitty, you're gonna have to compensate by using better methods to heat and treat it.
Might wanna fold it a few times like the Japanese if you're gonna use some shitty pot iron. You can actually make a pretty decent steel out of shitty materials if you're good at your craft(I doubt it, but who knows?)
Go with rivets for the handle. It's idiot proof
>>28610438
Read the post, he has 1095. What do you use to heat up your metal OP? Also I hear 1095 needs to quench lightning fast, do you use brine or something special? I'll sketch up something tomorrow, it's late here.
>>28610438
I literally said I have 1095
>>28610506
I have a half/half mix of motor oil and vegetable oil. I use my weed burner in a firebrick forge. Weed burner has issues with back pressure but I'm cheap. My long term plans are to fix up my great grandfathers coal forge.
I hope you know what you are in for Anon. I live in Osage Orange country. Even have a few trees in my back yard. A hundred beavers on meth can't work bodark and still have teeth left. It will check on you just about the time you think it's ready for finish. I tried to make a tomahawk haft with it and decided my sanity would be better served by marrying twin nymphos with an oedipal complex.
>>28610690
Agreed. Osage Orange is a hard, hard wood that will require a lot of patience to work. Good luck, OP, and make sure you keep all your fingers.
>>28609803
Post your most recent knife?
>>28610690
Yeah, stuff's hard to work with, but in my experience it doesn't dull blades very quickly. I more have problems with how the grain so easily peels away.
>>28612195
That is my most recent. I helped a friend make one after that but didn't do much.
The pic related is the one I did before that
Last time we did one of these, some retarded faggots scared off OP by doxxing him.
>>28612938
Why dox me? I'm just looking for knife design ideas. I'm not some posing faggot, I could time stamp my workshop if necessary I guess. Easier to delete the thread though.
>>28613355
the people who dox are faggot assholes. that's their one goal in life. they do it because they can and because there's no way to stop them or get back at them.
>>28613385
Uploading iPhone photos straight through to 4chan uploads the gps shit buried in the photos right?
>>28613385
But if I just delete the photos we good right? And if I stay vague.
>>28613463
if it's like mine it only embeds location if you have the gps on at the time
>>28613482
depends on if they were archived and the above about gps being on
from looking at your first photo there doesn't seem to be any exif data on it so you should be fine
>not making a catachan straight silver
It's basically a machete with mercury sealed inside the blade to increase chopping power and stability
I'm at least three kinds of infatuated with this silhouette, plus the tanto makes sharpening easy af
Made this from a piece of rebar on my friends coal fired forge, ebony wood scales. You could shave with it. I've got some metal fabrication experience, but this was my second time ever using a forge. I didn't really have a plan when I started making it, the next one will be more though out.
>>28614466
>You could shave with it
this means nothing. you could make a butter knife shaving sharp.
>>28607092
Make a bollock dagger.
>>28613536
A good stripper program is your friend. Doxxing is like finding a crossword puzzle in an airport waiting area, some people can't resist.
>>28614813
Let's see the knife you created from a piece of scrap metal you faggot.
>>28617763
I mean, he's right. You could make literally any piece of metal shaving sharp, but quality knives will hold that sharpness longer and are able to cut better on a macro level, meaning cutting through a piece of meat, or whittling wood.
>>28617779
you can whittle wood for days with a shitty mora, doesn't make it a good knife
https://www.flickr.com/photos/63161933@N04/
If you can't find a design here that you like then I don't know what's wrong with you.
>>28616221
Benis XDDDDDDD
>>28617858
No, but it makes it a good knife in the respect that it can cut well and hold an edge, which is what this entire thing was about. We're saying "it can shave hair" is meaningless because regardless of the quality of the knife you could sharpen it to the point that it can shave hair. And anyway, doesn't that contradict what the other person implied anyway? You say that the quality of a knife is independent of it's ability to cut well and retain an edge (aka perform the task the tool is meant to do), so aren't you too, saying that" it can shave hair" is a meaningless statement as that relates to how well it cuts?
A tool's quality is reliant upon how well it doesn't the job it's meant to do, a mora, which is meant as a general use camp knife, does what it's meant to do well, therefore, it's a good tool.

>mfw I designed this

it's meant to be milled as easily as possible with limited mounts btw.
