youre assigned with design a gun/business strategy that would bring colt back to the top contenders list in the firearms world. You can either invent a gun or guns, or bring something back. You also have to discuss how you would pitch the sale

Alright hear me out;

the Colt M416 5.56mm Carbine

utilizing Colt's revolutionary patent-pending

Piston

Individual-carbine
System

using the innovative new PENIS gas-system, a short-stroke piston operation totally removes the need to ever actually clean your rifle. Perfect for the modern day soldier, who has better things to do than maintain his weapon.

Literally start producing rifles and handguns again.

Bring back some of their more classic guns/handguns, bring back their revolver line like the Colt Python, anaconda and even their police detective guns and Mk trooper guns for a start.
>>
>>28585935
(cont...)

We will market this system as a cheaper and more patriotic alternative to the HK416 and a better version of the M4.

To make this economical, we will use a melted-pot-metal receiver and make all internal parts out of polymer. The piston system will be str8 stolen from the LWRC system, but we are bigger than them so we can probably get away with it.

It's MSRP will start at a mere $1,999.99, and we will heavily market this to the military. And by market, I mean lobby the fuck out of congress.

>>
>>28586173
Like this anon said >>28586165, they only lost their military contracts and it was the military branch that filed. The part of Colt that sells to civilians is fine.

That said, what Colt should do is find a way to cut the costs on their firearms without dropping quality. Then bring back discontinued firearms. Maybe update them a bit so they are in more common calibers. I know a lot of people love the old revolvers. Should definitely make new ones, maybe reproductions of stuff like the SAA (best of my knowledge it isn't made anymore).

Has colt ever been cutting edge since the colt walker?

The m16 was sold to them by stoner. The 1911 was sold to them by browning. The Python is was considered too good to continue producing.

>I would sell a free floated 18 inch SPR model at $1500. This would be in direct competition with BCM and Daniel Defense offerings

Colt's main problem is "bringing back" -- they're the least innovative major gun company of the past 50 years.

>oh shit sales suck -- let's make another slightly-different 1911

Having a nogunz owner and an anti-gun CEO didn't help them, but if S&W, Ruger, and Remington can stay solvent Colt's failures are entirely the fault of the upper management and their complete lack of foresight, total ignorance of their customer base, and an absurd inability to read the market.

Fuck Colt.

With modern machining techniques, materials, and workflow, WHY THE FUCK does it still cost me ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS to buy a handgun you've been making for OVER A CENTURY?

Also, stop making Series 80 pistols. HOW FUCKING HARD DO YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT, COLT? 2 SECONDS ON GOOGLE COULD FIX YOUR RETARDED BUSINESS.

Every retard with an engineering degree can design a functional handgun -- and they do! And they call it the "not a glock i swear" and sell millions. Are your management such huge asshats that they make new pistol design impossible?

Smith & Wesson
Springfield Armory
Ruger
Beretta
Sig Sauer
Walther
Steyr
HK
Kahr
Taurus
Kel-Tec
Canik
FN
...and who the fuck knows who else can all seem to invent and improve pistols, especially polymer framed pistols. What the fuck have you done, Colt? The Colt 2000? A fucking flavor of Mustang with a polymer frame. Oh! Good fucking job trying a tiny fucking bit there, Colt! Let all other gun manufacturer's learn from Colt: Give something a half-assed try, don't listen to your customers, don't read the market, and then give up when shit fails.

Did I miss anything?

Oh yes -- lawyers! Make sure you consult lawyers on engineering designs (customers fucking love that). Make sure that avoiding unlikely, unreasonable litigation is more important than making a functional, usable firearm.

So let's recap:

1. Make tired old designs unnecessarily expensive to try to trick people into thinking they're "better".

2. Let lawyers make design decisions.

3. Never innovate -- customers desperately want the same old shit you can't seem to sell to them.

4. Don't pay attention to traditional gun media, blogs, YouTube, thousands upon thousands of forum posts, nor word-of-mouth that contradicts your business practices, and instead imagine support even though there's zero evidence anywhere despite this being the information age that anything you're doing is right.

FUCK YOU COLT. FUCK. YOU.

>people think they'd bring back their classic guns exactly how they were
even if they wanted to, making full production steel pistols is very expensive, and given how everyone wants/makes polymer now, thats a lot to gamble on some classic pistols most people might not be interested in.
Worst of all if they did theres a better than not chance theyd "modernize them" and make them plastic with rails and laser mounts. Can you image a 1903 like that? Look at the newest 1911 they came out with
>>
>>28587241

>>
>>28585815
I'd make a budget AR, with a couple whizz bang features, and get it into the hands of every gun editor, jewtube reviewer, and display counter in the country. Make it the first name in ARs again. Send the right hookers to the right people and get them back in Wal-Mart. Then once the brand is back on the radar start shitting out expensive remakes of snake guns, and create a pocket 9mm.
>>
>>28586796
Special purpose rifle, not SP1.
I wouldn't sell clones because its not popular right now. I know around here clones are well loved, but the rest of the market, the normies, they couldn't give fewer shits.

And spr rifles, based off the mk12, have 18 inch barrels.

>>28586817
See, I'd bank on my reputation, but cut my profits a little bit so hopefully people stop talking about "paying for the pony".

I'm not a materials engineer or a master gunsmith, so saying I'll be " innovative " somehow is silly. If I took over right now, all I could do is create competitive prices and hope someone in the lab comes up with something new.

I think ar10 is still am excellent market to buy into, try to standardize things, maybe try and compete with the sr25.
>>
A few points for Colt....

1) Make lower-end 1911's. Doesn't have to be fancy, just has to work reliably.
2) Absolutely bank on the LE901's. Ship all of them with a standard 5.56 adapter. Sell 308 (and derivative) uppers directly and in a larger range of barrel lengths. Go from 13" with large pinned muzzle brake to 24" in medium profile. Sell the handguards as separate rails for popular 308 platforms as well as versions for AR-15's.
3) If you find money, buy Kel-Tec and work on improving their firearms by replacing polymers with aluminum. As much as we like SUB-2000's, RFB's, & SU-16's, we'd like them even more if all of them worked reliably. Expose them to the same QC as 6920 series.
4) Hop on the mid-length bandwagon for AR-15's and start mass-producing 20" A3 (with polymer handguard) & A4 (with FF quad-rail) style rifles for the mass market. Make match-grade iron sights and bundle them with everything.
5) Look back to your wild west roots. Make revolvers that are competitive in price and with a variety of iconic actions. While DA revolvers rule, SA still has its place. Or hell, start licensing or importing desirable overseas models like Mateba's Unica.

>Start producing sub 1200 mil spec AR's with mono/FF Keymod'd uppers, fancy KAC shit standard, use KAC partnership to go into un-treaded waters in KAC engineering.

>Make a 5.56 PDW

>Buy production liscence rights that KAC doesn't hold from Armalite, or just acquire them outright

>Bring back the fucking SNAKE's, at competitive pricing.

>Make (or find and re-invent) non rimmed magnum cartridges in .357 to at least .41 that can be double stacked.
>Now enlarge above plastic pistol to utilize said magnum rounds, produce in limited quantities, let it generate it's own demand - also can do .45 and 10mm models

>Bring back the fucking delta elite limited production. Double stacked variant's too. Don't half ass it.

>Make pricing competitive
>Make a hunting rifle
><Be civ friendly again

In a perfect world/gun enthusiast's fantasy:
>bring discontinued double-action revolvers back into production and build them more durably so they don't need a servicing every 1000 rounds and price them at or under $1000
>bring discontinued Browning autos back into production (1903 in .32 and .380, 1908 in .25, Woodsman .22lr) and price them all in the $400-800 range
>have at least one single-action revolver in their regular catalog (not as a$1600+ limited run custom shop item)
>have a regular catalog item which is like the Series 70, but has a simpler rollmark (not the ugly billboard Series 70 rollmark)
>do all this while maintaining Colt's legendary attention to detail, with high polish bluing, case hardening and fire bluing where appropriate
>also, they need to polish the slides AFTER they stamp the rollmarks so they don't look so cratered

Best option for Colt:
>recruit the best talent in gun design of today to design the next revolutionary firearm, whether it's a rifle or handgun
>produce limited runs of pre-war style 1911's in greater volume, with a greater degree of finish and with more variety (not just the 1918 "black army" variant they keep making)
>update and expand their rifle and handgun lines with more options for competition, long range, hostile environments, etc. and keep the price competitive
>>
>>28589439

>dilute your manufacturing efficiency by releasing a larger nunber of DIFFERENT guns that havent fixed any of the company's problems

Shut up. Just ahut the fuck up. "Release a different version of X" is never the correct answer.

It didnt work for Kimber and their 8 million versions of the 1911.

It didnt work for SIG when they did it withthe 226.

Have colt fix the fact that no one who isnt retarded and in love with the pony due to fuddlore buys their guns.
>>
>>28589521
That's funny because it seems to work fantastically well for Ruger, as they keep releasing different functional variants and different calibers for existing guns and they keep making money. Or could it be that you have failed with your analogy because you're too stupid to realize that more factors are involved and the companies aren't directly comparable? My bet is on the latter.

There are corners of the market that Colt could reach with very minimal modifications to their rifles and pistols. Their AR 15's are all pretty much different variations on the 16" 5.56 carbine. Like I said, all they'd need to do to bring this gun up to the standards of the rest of the market is a few quick updates, and then they could start expanding into different calibers, for example, .300 Blackout, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, etc. all generate considerable demand and Colt is not able to take advantage of this.

Another example is their 1911's. They have some beautiful blued and stainless pistols starting around $700, and then they have the cerakoted CQBP priced over $2000. What they do not have is a 1911 with less polish and a more durable and weather-proof finish, like a parkerized, cerakote, or melonite-type finish. They could even leave the polish level of the gun lower and price it in the same range as the blued or stainless Government models, but as long as it's not over twice the price, which is totally a non-starter.
>>
>>28585991
Pythons aren't going to happen. I read an article a gunsmith wrote on why it won't happen and people should stop asking for it. It basically came down to
>CNC machines aren't that good yet
>All the guys who know how to actually fit and assemble them are dead, dying, or retired.
>A lot of the tools required to make them were hand built by Colt just for those guns and they've been destroyed since then.

It sucks, but Pythons will never come back.

>>
>>28589723
I didn't say they weren't overrated. I just said they aren't coming back. Colt was losing money on every one they sold, and it would cost an astronomical amount in time and money to bring them back.

People asking for Pythons to come back are one of two groups
>Fudds who believe Fuddlore and think it's the best gun ever, but don't want to pay the premium they demand now
>People who actually have shot and handled them and love them, but don't want to pay the premium they demand now.

>>
*Immediately move most operations overseas. Manufacturing products in America means paying too much for labor and results in a product that has much lower QC compared to other products at the same price point.

*Focus on trying to capture/recapture the luxury/high-end firearms market with top shelf custom and semi-custom 1911s + snake wheelguns instead of trying to compete with the likes of Glock and Hi-Point. This branch of the company could potentially stay in the U.S. depending on the availability and competence of foreign expert gunsmiths.

*Win some kind of new military contract ASAP. This should be much easier after most manufacturing operations have been moved overseas, allowing for more competitive bids.

I tried to take apart a revolver today, a really shitty .22 LR Saturday Night Special from the 70s. The cylinder wouldn't index properly, but I seriously regret even trying, after much frustration I was able to get all the parts back together minus 1 tiny spring for the arm that still eludes me, IDK where I would source another one besides asking a gunsmith if he could either find something compatible or fabricate a replacement.

If you ask me the damn thing wasn't safe to fire to begin with, but the moral of the story is don't try to take apart really shitty old guns.

Improve the quality control of the company overall.

And yes bring back the Python / Anaconda / King Cobra revolvers for the consumer space.

For military use, develop a new gun similar to the Five-seveN but loaded hotter and using SOST projectiles.
