Do you want one? Get one. America is a gun-ridden country and a firearm could prove useful in the event that you need to defend yourself from an armed or violent individual. An armed citizenry is also useful as a symbolic message to the government should it become tyrannical, armed rebellion is not out of the question.

This is a good point. If you think about it, the founding fathers were not running around clamoring for wheel lock rifles and other technologically inferior firearms at the time. They Had both smoothbore muskets and rifles that were some of the most advanced weaponry of their days. I'm sure they would advocate for the rights for citizens to own anything the military deems standard issue for its soldiers.
