I actually kind of understand the point of that drill.
She's clearly terrified of guns and the concept of defending herself, so it's just a drill to try and get her fight response to overcome her flight response. That's why he's got her holding the gun down so that she sees the "attacker" rather than the sights. It's so she thinks "I can run headfirst into danger! I don't need to cower in fear!"
It's the same idea as those "women's self defense courses" where they just teach them to scream and kick the guy in the nuts. It's not going to work in an actual fight, but it's aimed at giving them the fighting mindset.

I don't think people fully realize how dangerous this is.
People are known to double fire large revolvers or hell, any semi auto handgun under recoil if they are not experienced. There was a girl not long ago that killed herself this way.
When I teach someone new to shoot a semi auto handgun I never have the gun loaded with more than one round just in case. I feel its a good practice for long guns as well though less necessary due to their geometry and the fact that I will be standing inches behind them to grab it should they try to turn around with it.
