G3, SCAR, M1A, FAL, AR10, HK417, etc. etc.

What's the best mod you've made to your battle rifle?

Geissele trigger was probably the biggest bang-for-the-buck for the SCAR. I didn't even get a free one and I'd pay for it all over again.
>>
>>28543633
I missed out on the free one as well. Is it that much better than factory?
>>
>>28543657

IMO definitely. I'd get the trigger before I got an optic if I got another SCAR desu.
>>
>>28543657
My stock SCAR trigger was not bad.
The Geissele, amazing.
>>
>>28543677
Personally, I get the optic for the rifle before I get the rifle. Keeps me from cheaping out on the glass.

What tools do you need to put together a FAL from a parts kit?

>>
>>28543657

One is a ''combat'' trigger the other is far, far more responsive and suited to bench shooting.
>>
>>28543802
Fug this is way more complicated than I trust myself to do.
>>
>>28543830
All there is to it really
>>

Pay someone else so do it then.

What's been your experience w/ steel mags vs aluminum? One more reliable than the other?

My steel mags are all from the '60s, and about half have noticeably weaker springs than my aluminum mags, which are all about 20-30 years newer. It would still take quite a drop to dent the aluminum mags, and the difference in weight is apparent when you carry them for awhile.

These aftermarket SCAR lowers have popped up in the last few BRG threads so I figured I'd cobble together an infographic. It looks like I'm picking on HANDL, but the same thing can apply to the Stryker lowers, they listed similar benefits on their page.

Basically the cost benefit starts to stack up after you buy 21 mags, all the other "benefits" seem pretty puffed up or non-upgrades. Some people buy lots of mags, some people don't, use your own judgment.
>>
>>28543633
>>28543657
I rang steel last weekend with my stock trigger at 300 yards 20/20 out of a mag.

Is it really worth 250ish bucks? I know what good triggers are like, but the SCAR is my do it all rifle, a light ass trigger seems less than ideal for innawoods or a chimpout

Hell yes it's fun. Watch some videos of people doing 3 gun on youtube with a Garand. Looks like a shitload of fun. PING
>>
>>28544983
Interesting. I lold at "benefit-listing-doubling." I'm sure part of it is that they were so heavily invested in the lowers from the panic when factory mags were $125/ea, when the bubble popped and the price sank they had to try and remarket them. Handl is doing some cool shit with caliber conversions now though, and their CS is pretty good so I don't give a shit what they do.

I've been seriously considering saving up a few grand and buying either a SCAR (not sure on caliber yet) or an AUG. I've always thought SCARs were neat but it's a lot of money. I want an AUG because I've been wanting a bullpup for a while and it'd be cool to have both the previous and current Austrian service rifle.

Best place to get an M1A? No competition/match stuff either. As close to USGI issue as possible.

If you like heavy, outdated, and inferior to all the rest then sure go for it

I did it and I really like it. I like my Garand and FAL more but I'd still do it again.
>>
>>28548005
Don't get the 16 inch version. Go for the 18 with the original gas system at least.

Triggers - Anything good. I like Geissele.

I sort of want to do an AR10 build but every AR10 I see just looks like some fragile little dainty girl rifle compared to other battle rifles.

Is there any way to make an AR10 look serious in a non distance configuration?

Who cares about the lower, the upper is the firearm.
There are aftermarket stocks, and adapters.

Factory trigger is basic.

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/09/26/trigger-pulls-good-bad-ugly/

No one wants to break in their guns through actually pulling the trigger so it's off to polishing (which can ruin hardened surfaces) or buying an aftermarket trigger.

Geissele version is good. Shooting Sight is more innovative in that it hits harder/moves slightly faster. Not that you could tell.
>>
>>28551153

You don't need an 80% SCAR lower. It can be 100% because the upper is the registered part.
>>
>>28551393
>Hits harder/faster
Is that just due to the stronger hammer spring?

They built a swell near the magwell so retards wouldn't be able to stick their thumb up.
>>
From some posts discussing the differences between the factory and the SS trigger on FNforum.

>FNH fixed this issue by adding the 'swoopy' edge to the hammer, to make the hammer longer than the carrier travel, and prevent it from popping up in the first place. That gives a cleaner cycle, because the bolt does not have to be re-depressed, but that extra mass at the tip of the hammer increases the hammer swing time by about 33%.

>Since I wanted to make the trigger out of plate steel, rather than casting it, adding that swoop would have raised costs substantially. The other thing that happens is this swoop all the way on the top of the hammer adds mass right out on the extreme of the hammer, so it raises polar moment substantially. Eliminating this extra mass is how I got from 8ms locktime to 6ms locktime.
