What does /k/ think about SQUAD? Seems to require a lot of coordination and teamwork. Also the weapons are supposed to be super realistic.

>>
Looks stupid, the action seems very slow. Also the getting shot once kill you like in Ghost Recon is kinda dumb.
>>
>>28539647
is this arma or something?
>>
just stick to PR for now.
>>
Ultra-realism games like ARMA aren't my cup of tea. Balance tends to be shit, pace is extremely slow, and it just turns into autistix milsim bullshit.

In video games, I'd rather have a fun, fast-paced arcade shooter than a slow one with a million controls like ARMA.
>>
>>28539710
>the action seems very slow. Also the getting shot once kill you like in Ghost Recon
I've been looking for a game like this.
GRAW 1 and 2 (PC VERSION ONLY) team deathmatch mode, online, precisely is to this day the most fun shooter I've played. Slow enough to be kind of realistic and allow some flanking/ambushing but not so slow as to be boring as hell.
Oh, and anything but one shot kills is really lame bullet sponge school kid console no guns garbage tier shit.
>>
>>28539647
I like it, then again I play purely as a medic so I can't say too much about the combat
>>
I'll get it I guess, it looks interesting enough.
>>
>>28539647
The concept is promising and it seems like its headed in the right direction. But we'll see in a few years if it actually amounts to something worthwhile
>>
>>28539776
Getting shot once and dying isn't realistic either
>>
I like it, IMO it finds a nice balance between realism and fun. Its certainly not call of duty but its not like arma where your walking for 30 mins to get to an objective. Also it plays pretty smoothly and the community has the best teamwork ive ever seen online.
>>
>>28539977
You don't really die in one hit, its only to vital parts like spine, organs, etc. If for instance you get shot in the leg you will limp until a medic can help you. Of course if you get hit anywhere in the face/head you are instant dead.
>>
>>28539647

What i've seen from videos, it seems to suffer from the "iron rod up the ass" syndrome, same as arma. Movement looks so stiff.

I think I'm going to just stick to Red Orchestra and the original PR. There isn't enough maps / factions and everything. Meanwhile I can go play the original PR and play as a conscript in the Chechnya / Grozny.

So I'll probably wait to see what happens with squad before I fork out the 40 bucks for early access.....

Have you ever shot a gun? I can promise you that a mag change is not some fluid magic thing. Sometimes magazines don't drop free and you have to shake it or pull it out. You're also realistically always going to keep your magazines so you have to put it away before pulling another one out.

You're also never going to reload at a dead sprint. I would argue Project Reality is closer to real life than even ARMA for combat because you can never just immediately raise your sights and make a bullseye hit after immediately stopping from a sprint.

It does run like shit and need better AA though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMm7lOOQrXA&list=PLwZmHTMt5Sz871Kcx6zOrRQK0yfYRvIIE

Every other shooter is AIDS in comparison - a bunch of lone wolves against another bunch of lone wolves, unless you were actually part of an overly serious clan but fuck that. PR forced pubbies to work together and it was perfect. It's the only shooter where things like getting the MG to suppress and a fireteam to flank was often a factor. It was often like being in a movie 2bh.

So Squad is worth a try if it can hold a candle to PR.

It's like arma with actual developers and optimization, it's getting mod support so you don't have to play Arma 3 anymore with its ancient action system (scrolling through menus to open a door). Hello, non-milsim fag here gonna give a review of Squad. Long, autistic post ahead.

TL;DR: It's like Arma and Insurgency fucked and had a tacticool kid. $40 is a lot of money for what it is right now, but if this is your kind of game there's a ton of fun to be had.

I'm not usually down for uber realistic milsims, but Squad ISN'T one. From the dev's own mouths this is going to be a tactical first-person shooter. While realism is a cool addition they are focusing on FUN first.

So while Arma is like a big sandbox where you can do anything, Squad aims to do Arma in a smaller box and do it better. So far, I think, they've achieved that in terms of infantry combat.

Firefights in Squad are dynamic. Sometimes you'll be holding a ridge providing cover for a friendly Squad. You might be defending a base full of defenses because your squad lead is a faggot. You might be humping for 8 minutes across the map to massively flank and obliterate an enemy squad playing mine craft.

I've been in firefights that have lasted 30 minutes. All squads engaged for the same cap point. Flanking. Getting flanked. I've been in firefights where I straight up can hear nothing but gun fire for 10 minutes straight and the occasional "MEDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC!"

So, the essentials are there for a fun experience. Like I said, I'm not a milsim guy. Squad does a really good job of insuring that fun is had before realism jews you.

As for people saying the one-shot-kill deal. It's not a real issue. Very rarely are you one-shot killed. More often you take a bullet and bandage yourself and sprint to a medic.

The game is at its best when the following criteria are followed:

1) You have a good squad leader. That means someone who doesn't like playing minecraft and builds a base. He knows that movement is the key to survival and will get you around the map with good maneuvering.

1/2
>>
File: sMruhJP6Yi0.jpg (126 KB, 960x613) Image search: [Google]
sMruhJP6Yi0.jpg
126 KB, 960x613
>>28555665

TL;DR2: More casual than Arma, more team oriented than insurgency.

2) You have a good medic in your squad. With a good medic your squad can stay alive a long time so long as you have #1. I really like the fact that medics can pick people up even one or two minutes from when they went down.

3) Your team doesn't build shit FOBs (base with lots of defenses) and sit in it the whole game burning tickets. Right now there's a lot of new players, so people like to play with the base building aspects. It's hard to convince people that it is not a good idea to sit in a single compound surrounded by enemies lumping 40mm shells into it. Hopefully this changes as the player base matures.

The Squad experience is fun as hell for me. These guys have gotten the infantry based combat right. The rally system and coming logistics system should add a whole new depth to the game. Given that the game is already fun, and the devs are responsive, I think that this is actually a pretty safe bet IF THIS IS YOUR TYPE OF GAME.

If you're unsure then watch some non-shit youtubers playing. $40 is a lot of money to ask for early access. Right now given the limited maps, if all the bugs were fixed, I'd value the game at $25.

Once vehicles come it'll be a whole different game. I have faith they won't fuck up balance too much, but, honestly, the infantry combat is so fucking fun that I might still play in infantry only servers from time to time.

Helicopters, transport and attack, are confirmed. Jets are not. APCs, IFVs, and tanks are confirmed. Supply trucks are confirmed (they will be used to supply base building points to FOBs in the future.)

It's already a fun game, for me at least, but I have a lot of faith in it getting better. Devs are implementing modding tools so the community should have some cool stuff in the future. Community, in general, while new is actually pretty good. Unlike something like Red Orchestra the majority of people will be using mics and coordinating.
