Just picked up this Model 10 for $106.99 today. Forgive the shit picture, I dont' have a proper camera on me. Anyone here have some unusual/uncommon shotguns to show off? Also general shotgun thread.
>>28534224
Mine is neither rare nor unusual. It's a 870 supermag(dat 3.5" chamber) I won at a raffle. But I recently decided to paint it to duck hunt with and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out(first time painting a gun) so, Fuck it, I'm posting it
>>28534326
Brown base coat
>>28534326
3.5" is pretty awesome. I remember my Mossberg 835 and all the stupidly powered slugs I put throught it.
>>28534350
OD stripes
>>28534357
They make 3.5" slugs?? Im not sure if I hate my shoulder enough to try that.
Followed up the OD with some lighter green
FTWinchester
>>28534383
Finally, some tan sprayed through a bunch of pine needles laid against the grain of the stripes for that "wetland" look
>>28534398
Not sure why that uploaded sideways..
>>28534383
Yeah, you really have to be a masochist to shoot them, but some people swear by that extra 1/2". Personally, I couldn't afford to feed it, so I got out of my 835 for about $50 more than I put into it.
Your paint job came out really nice. I'm actually thinking about getting into cerakoting myself, I have a Stevens 5100 that needs a new lease on life.
>>28534422
Now to go slaughter some mallards and wood ducks this weekend
>>28534445
Thanks. How different is the process for cerakote? Is it pricey? Being somewhat cheap, I just went for 4 cans of rustoleum from Walmart for $3.79 apiece..
>>28534479
Cerakote is pricey and apparently much more involved a process. My lgs owner was talking about how he cerakoted a few things in his home oven, and how he had to go get a spray gun from Harbor Freight to apply it. At $60 a pint, you'll probably be doing a lot of prep work to make sure it comes out alright, because last I checked there's no way to un-cerakote a gun.
That being said, this: http://www.cerakoteguncoatings.com/finishes/H-245Q/socom-blue/
Is supposed to replicate a blued finish very well. For the money, it's not that bad if you, say, have a few old guns you just want to get more use out of.
Just realized today that I've had about 7 mossbergs over the years. For some reason I seemto keep finding cheap 500s and keep selling them at a profit.
>dead scattergat thread
Attempting revival... How do the CAI 1887's hold up? Are they still in the $350 range?
Guess what this is.
>>28535689
A shotgun?
>>28535689
BPS.
The least pleb of pleb-tier shotguns (pumps).
Also, you're a faggot for not into 10ga.
>>28535661
Not well, and no they've gone up to around $500 unless you get one on sale/clearance.
>>28534447
looks good, bruh.
>>28534955
Just realized I've been shooting the same Remington 11-87 since, well, 1987. And it's never given me one bit of trouble.

We've been saying scattergat for years now. You first.
>>28535935
eh, it just sounds cringey to me
when people say it to me they sound like they're trying really hard to fit in; but, they don't really know who they're trying to fit in with, so they just throw it out there and hope it sticks to something.
>>28535962
when will this meme die? there is nothing wrong with reddit. there are good and bad people there just like everywhere else.
>>28535939
The BPS cost more than Remington and Mossberg Semi autos.
>>28535995
you are right.
guys, are we still posting scattergats?
>>28535661
They are kind of crappymi heard somewhere that the manufacturerw didnt update the gun to accept plastic shells.

was thinking about getting a Stevens 311 off of gunbroker. any useful info you guys might have on the 311?
>>28536042
I've had 7 over the years. They weren't bad or anything; I kept finding really good deals* on them and passing them along. Best score was when I got two canabalized guns and fixed both of them up, then sold one of them at a profit. Essentially, I made $35 and got a free slug gun.
>>28536056

>>28536042
>>28536092
>I've had 7 over the years. They weren't bad or anything; I kept finding really good deals
I keep finding lightly used 835s that "have problems" for stupid cheap, around $175 out the door.

>>28536137
You just proved that the BPS is more expensive than common autoloaders.
Good job
>>28536148
>more expensive than Mossberg AND Remington
>listed 2 of the oldest Mossberg and Remington autoloaders in production
>within $20 of one and almost $100 cheaper than the other
Would you rather I compare them to the 935 and Versa-Max? Or do you somehow think that 699 is more than 854? Or perhaps you're thinking that and means or?
Most likely you've seen it already but here ya go.
>>28536224
You should really swap out the gookbelt sling for a glowbelt sling.
Browning Double-Auto, steel receiver, pre-1958. Got it from my grandpa when he died.
>>28536106
My 835 was right at $200 with a Bushnell scope mounted (probably not a very expensive one for that price). It was rusty and dirty but I managed to get most of that off with a wad of 0000, then after spending waaay too much money in giganto slugs for range giggles I sold it. My 500 Persuader came to me for, again, $200 because the last guy read a shit review online... after putting a Hogue overmold stock on it. I'm trying to convince a welder friend of mine to help me make a 590 style bayonet mount because I can't find a decent deal on the real thing.
>>28536129
Is that some early Mossberg camo job I see there? Here, have mine.
>>28536082
Stevens/Savage/Springfield 311's are a gread double for the money, and they're no slouches when it comes to reliability. I have a 311-style that I swear had to have come out of a barn, and it runs just great under all the rust. Some things to consider:
-a large number of them were sold at hardware stores, and were finished accordingly
-greenish tinted stocks = less desireable, so don't shell out too much money for one
-cut barrels also bring down value
-longer the barrel, the tighter the chokes. Read up on whatever you got (manufacturer + model + date as close as you can get) to figure out what the chokes are
-A lot of these were made without serial numbers, meaning that you'll have to go by the stamps on the barrels, stock, and reciever
-Finally: Unless you absolutely have to, do NOT disassemble. They're a bitch to pull apart and more than a few /k/ommandos have had these things sitting on their workbench because they couldn't put them back together.
>>28536274
Naw this one is too much fun.
>is that a karate belt?
>what the fuck is that sling?
>hahaha oh my god that sling
>holy shit that's retarded
Yurofag here, I'm picking up a pump-action 12ga soon, any recommendations? Was considering Mossy 590, y/n? Anything I should know?
>>28536329
Eh, I suppose trolling everyone 9/10 is better than trolling milfags 9000/10.
>>28536329

>>28536357
Are you right or left handed?
Do you plan on dicking with aftermarket for it?
Is it a tacticool/HD use or wingshooting use?
Does your country have any gauge/capacity restrictions?
>>28536357
The Mossberg 500 family is a pretty robust and simple group of guns. Having owned a few I have a soft spot for them. The 590 is a little extra for not really that much more utility--assuming you're getting one without the bayonet lug, it's not that much better than a 500 other than the all-metal fire group and the heavier barrel. If you don't have any stupid restrictions, a 590a1 is kind of cool.
>>28536371
I really want to build one of these, load one barrel with congealed clam chowder and the other with oyster crackers.
Have myself a Chowdah pistol.
>>28536362
I did not do it to troll though, I did it because it really does make a great sling.
>>28536371

>>28536414
>>28536424
Or, better yet, smash a shitload of oyster crackers and stir them into the congealed (canned) clam chowder. Then pack in 20ga fired hulls and either bake at like 200*F in the oven or just sit outside all day during the summer, make chowder cement.
Load that like a giant minie ball.

>>28536327
thanks for the info on the 311. as for the serial number thing. will that get in the way when i get it sent to my ffl here in california?
>>28536639
Only if your FFL is particularly retarded.
Nearly a quarter of all firearms manufactured in the US were manufactured without a serial number. There's shit in place to deal with those.
>>28536639
Seeing as they were made before serial numbering was mandatory, I don't see it being too big a deal. Double check with whoever you're buying through.

And half the ones that do, only do so because something's broken.
I got an H&R Pardner 12 guage pump for 130$,
>>28536832
I bought a pretty much BRAND NEW Savage 720 safe queen for $110
>>28536376
Proper handed.
I don't know, maybe.
General fuckery, I have an AK for HD.
No.
>>28536387
I'll be getting the 590 for the bayo lug in particular. Is that the A1?
>>28536832
That's a pretty sweet deal man.
Also, out of curiosity, I've never seen a vent-rib barrel that short before. Fixed cylinder bore, or screw-in chokes?
If screw-in chokes, I think I just found myself a new grouse gun. Fuck carrying a 26" barrel though super thick pine woods.
If I were to buy a shotgun in Commiefornia, would anything come in the mail during the registration process/background check? I'm going to be living there with a family member soon for a few years, and I don't want them knowing I have one since I don't know their stance on firearms. Just need one for home defense.
I've only bought handguns in another state and I don't now how CA works because the laws are out of whack there. I hope everything is taken care of at the store
Looking to purchase either Mossberg 500 or Maverick
>>28536864
Couple suggestions then.
Stevens 320 HD
>cheap ($200ish USD)
>reliable
>good ghost-ring sights at the proper height
>pistol grip+crossbolt safety, so you can actually reach the safety
>long, Benelli Nova-esque forend
-no aftermarket to speak of
-slide release is small and round
IAC Hawk/Norinco 870 clone
>cheap (where available, $200 or less USD)
>loads of aftermarket
>actually built better than Rem 870 Express, about on par with Wingmaster
>IAC has factory bayo lug option, not sure whose bayonet it fits
>available in 8+1
>heavy enough to absorb a good amount of recoil, not so heavy you tire out carrying/shooting it
-fuck-all for warranty
-chinkiest of chinkstuff. Surprisingly not shit, so not chinkshit, but still chinky. Last one I saw came with instructions solely in Mandarin.
>>28537288
I'll take those into consideration, but the mossy is so cheap that I don't see the need to save a couple hundred.
THIS is my problem solver right here
>>28537357
Fair enough.
I personally don't care for tang-mounted safeties despite being proper-handed. I also think they're so light they kick unreasonably hard for what they are.
>>28537226
Anyone?
>>28537503
You get dildos in the mail for practice
>>28537643
So nothing unless they deny me, right?
I've been thinking about getting a Benelli M4, are they worth the money?
>>28536224
Got this one for $75, Springfield by stevens, plastic furniture, hammer is ungodly stiff, I love how monstrous it is
>>28537226
Nope- any paperwork will be part of the face-to-face with the shop who sold the gun.
>>28538484
In LA county you get a gay letter sent to your address about gun crime. I DROS'd 3 lowers at once and they sent three letters lol.
>>28534224
>>28538558
Is this unusual enough for you?
My very rare 1909 Sjögren semi-automatic shotgun.
Inertia recoil operated, and slightly terrifying to shoot due to that 1 1/2 pound slide recoiling right in front of your face.
>>28537837
"For the money" is a subjective thing, but they're great shotguns if you can stomach the price. IIRC Hatsan (a Turkish company) makes a much more inexpensive clone/knockoff that's apparently decent, but it also lacks aftermarket accessories and chokes.
my body is ready
>>28538690
Does that handguard seem to work well enough? Been thinking about picking one up.
>>28538587
Awesome.
What retains said slide from smacking you in the face? Hopefully it's robustly engineered, lol. And how fast does it move?
>>28538794
Yeah its okay though the ventral rail was a pain to screw in. I took it off. The rails made it tricky getting into the scabbard- and I had to take the light off to do it anyway so keep that in mind if you have a scabbard.
>>28534224
How much is a Winchester model 12 trench gun barrel worth?
I came across a deal on one awhile back and I don't think I'll ever get around to making a trench gun.
How much could I sell this for?
>>28538803
It actually moves pretty slowly, which kind of makes it a bit scarier. It's slow enough you can see it moving back and forth clearly.
Robust? Hell yeah. This thing is solidly built, and finely made. I don't really understand how they figured this thing would be profitable, the amount of machining is crazy.
The slide is retained a lot more securely than it appears. It's got a spring loaded buffer at the end of the travel, and rides on two side rails. It's also attached to receiver in such a way that about 10 parts would need to break in a specific order for it fly off, and a parts breakage is more likely to lock it TO the receiver.
The mechanism is hard to understand, even with it disassembled. It's recoil operated, with a tilting locking block and spring loaded breech block. It's basically unlocked by the inertia of the gun recoiling against you; the insides of the bolt remain stationary for a period and the whole thing recoils around them.

H-here's mine. Going to put a magpul MOE forend and stock on it here pretty soon. Also going to add a truglo front site, an optics rail, and a flashlight mount.
