technically you can have a magazine that holds more than 10 in your possession. that's legal. what's not legal is most ways of getting them into the state. you're not supposed to import or manufacture them and a DA has the burden to prove when you brought it in. the statute of limitations is 3 years so if you brought one in in 2012 they couldn't touch you. you can however rebuild a magazine you may have had pre-2000 with a kit and most things have commonality between them ie USGI mag with a magpul follower or spring and then you change out the body and floorplate and now you've got a pmag
