News is slowly coming out of Syria that Russian robots have been sent into combat over the past few days during the Salma offensive and they're saying that robots scored >10 kills. They're also using other kinds of robots (PackBot equivalents) to hunt for IEDs since AlQaeda left several dozen boobytraps but those are different from combat robots.

Have they gone too far? Using robots to kill people is one step too far.

Thoughts?
>>
>Russia desperately trying to impress world militaries
Did they give any criteria for what these "robots" were?
If they weren't fully autonomous, who cares? May as well call Smart Bombs robots and they have thousands of kills.

Reports are from SAA fighters on twitter. Russian MoD has been mum on the issue. I'm guessing they don't want attention (it's bad PR).
>>
>>28522939
Sounds cool to me. Even if its pretty much just one of those remote control airshit tanks with a gun attached to it. unmanned terrestrial vehicles has a ring to it.
>>
>>28522939
> robot
> HUD aimed missile/gun

what's the difference? where is the line? who the fuck cares? kill bots gonna kill.
>>
>>28522952
This.
>>
Do you have even a single source for this

hastags #SAA on twitter. use translate feature to read arabic.

>Using robots to kill people is one step too far.

Why would you think something so utterly moronic
>>
>>28523100
Diff is that these bots have a "auto-aim & fire" options. They basically detect positions of incoming fire and they auto-aim & shoot.

Human is not the one pulling the trigger in this kind of setup.
>>
>>28522952
People call any remote controlled vehicle a robot, even if it has no self guiding ability.
>>
>>28523181
If any of that is true, it would be interesting.
>>
>>28523181
>Diff is that these bots have a "auto-aim & fire" options. They basically detect positions of incoming fire and they auto-aim & shoot.

You're talking shit.

I seriously think there should be some ethical guidelines on using those things in warzones. Like who would be responsible for war crimes commited by UCGV?

But what if there is no person in the loop? These things have arrays of sensors and you can send them in and let them shoot at the fist thing that moves or the first thing that fires upon it. Who's responsible then?

The thing is they don't. Idiot.

Ah, the response to being asked for a source is to ask for an opposing source.

The hallmark of the bullshitter who gets called out and resorts to the fallacy of demanding proof of a negative.

humans are weak, stupid, get tired easily, get distracted easily and they make stupid mistakes.

machines have none of those faults.

War crimes are a silly social construct.

War is a crime. If you as a national leader have decided to say "Fuck peace, let's kill some motherfuckers" you're already okay with being a bad guy. Why not go all the way?

In fact, it could be argued that intentionally neglecting means of winning a war with fewer casualties on your side is basically treason.

Because total war doesn't happen between major powers anymore. Christ, why are you here if you don't even understand that?
