Whats the best EDC light? The one im looking for must be able to use AA and/or 14500 batteries, pocket sized, and under $50.

So far the ones I've narrowed it down to are:

Fenix LD11
NiteCore MT1A
Zebralight sc52w (found one used for $50)

Uses would consist of EDC, and outdoors activities (Worst case scenario - Working my way down a mountain in Mexico at night.)

Any other suggestions?
>>
Those are some bulky flashlights for edc but the trade off for higher lumens seems worth it.i would recommend the thrunite ti5 but it takes aaa's. And it about a thrid as bright as those.
>>
>>28508419
These are about as big as I would go personally. They seem to be relatively pocket compatible too, IMO
>>
Take a look at Thrunite's models as well.

This is what I have for my EDC, OP. The Thrunite Archer 1A. I really like it for a small, single AA edc light. Plenty bright for most things you'd need and the firefly mode is great for using in a dark house when you don't want to blind yourself or wake someone up.

I daily carry a Fenix PD35. It slips right into my pocket and is not the least bit intrusive. Quality 18650 batteries are cheap and common as well.

Not sure ill be needing 1000 lumens, lol. Also, a bit out of my price range. But damn, nice light yo

Keep an eye on Amazon. Sometimes you'll find a PD35 with a couple batteries and charger included for pretty cheap.

If youre using it for self defense my primary rules are:
1 bulb. A 1200 Lumen Bulb is bright as fuck, but they can put 3 400 Lumen bulbs in and still sell it as a 1200 lumen flashlight and laugh as you just do the lighting work to your own rape film after wanting to save 20 bucks.
The Reflector should also be smooth, if they dont have a picture looking at the lens of the light then look for an image that does have it
>>
>>28509657
not for self defense. Thats what my M&p 9 is for ;)

>>28508481
>>28508579

I'm gonna get the Thrunite 1A V2. Looks like its everything I need. Probably gonna pick up the LD 11 for higher output later down the line.

Thanks anons. Feel free to keep offering suggestions since Amazon purchases can be cancelled before it ships

>>
>>28508386
Is there a good guide on LED flashlights, and measuring them against eachother?
Just because it's some crazy high lumens doesn't seem to necessarily mean it's that bright vs a lower lumen one.
Is it basically the lumens X the size of the actual led that makes one better than the other? Or strictly the wattage it takes?
>>
>>28509752
>olight S1
only problem is Olight seems to have a lot of reports of them breaking after a few days/few months
>>
>>28509956
i havent seen anything bad about them, was that on here or somewhere else?

i've only had my s1 for a short time, but no issues with it.
>>
>>28510037
Almost every Olight on amazon has3-4 stars. But if you look at the rating, half of them are 4 or below with lots of complains about them breaking in the lower ratings.
>>
>>28509956
That happens with almost all cheap lights. I've had streamlight, fenix, etc lights all break under use.

Which rechargable batteries are the best for an EDC light? I bought the charging pack that came with like, 8 edisonbright 1000mAh batteries (low, I know but I can use them for other flashlights and electronics).

I was looking at these, any good?

5.11 XBT A2.

Sits in my back pocket and I mostly forget it's there.
>>
I used to have an LD12 and found it to be a pretty good EDC light. I lost it while helping rescue some friends that drove their car off a cliff, though. (I think I set it down on the guardrail and then forgot to grab it when the cops showed up and cleared everybody out so the medevac helo could land.)

I think I may switch to an AAA light for my next one, there are some pretty damn bright ones now, and the size makes me more likely to carry it all the time. I'm not worried about "tactical" use, it's just a helpful utility tool.
>>
>>28510877
For AAs Eneloop is the best for the price.

Nice! Glad to see someone who used that light. Do you remember the pros/cons you saw? Was it too big to EDC that youre switching to AAA?

It wasn't too big to EDC, but it was big enough to be annoying sometimes. I had to take it out of my pocket to drive, for example. If you're dedicated it's not terrible, but I'd rather have something that's so small and light that I forget it's even in my pocket.

Only Surefire I have which was that cheap was my P3X Fury.
>>
>>28516455
It's a flashlight, it's a metal body with an extremely simple electronic circuit board regulating electricity flow, an LED (or multiple), and some o-rings for waterproofing. The hundred dollar "premium" flashlights have no better or very minimal increases in build quality compared to a Chinese rip-off light with the same specs for $40.

I will never understand why people spend so much for flashlights other than having the extra money to do so and an appreciation of the aesthetics (even though the Chinese lights can sometimes be the exact same minus the logo which is laser etched into the body)
>>
>>28516430
>>28515753

Both are great lights, however, they are not AA compatible. The biggest issue for me is that I travel to a lot to shitty places (Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Europe, etc) which dont always have the CR123A's available at every corner. I understand I lose the lumens/duration but its something im alright with. Hopefully when i have more money to spend I can buy one of those as a dedicated hiking light or something.

completely understandable. All i know is that i bought the flashlight and CR123A(X2) with recharging station for under 100$ on amazon. I use the light everyday and havent changed my battery for probably 3 weeks now on a full charge. however i fully support any thrunite product as most of my friends are LE and FD and use them frequently

>>
>>28516615
Good to know! Yeah, I was torn between the PD11 and the Archer A1 V2.. but the thrunite had all the features I wanted, though I wish it was regulated and had slightler higher lumens and throw.. guess theres no such thing as the perfect flashlight, but for what it is, itll work great. Might pick up a Fenix down the line as well.

My dedicated headlamp is a princeton tec which is AWESOME. A nice handheld would compliment it perfectly

His Web page... Be warned. You can get lost in flashlight reviews.

http://www.flashlightreviews.ca/cpf.htm

I was originally looking for a small AA light for work. I ended up with the smallest 18650 light I could find. On high it puts out a disgusting wall of light. Has many usable modes.

I got one of these. From a local retailer, who also has a booth at the local gun shows.

Not him, but I have telescope lenses worth hundreds of dollars which have high quality coating on them but are easily damaged if not taken care of.

I wouldnt go saying that flashlight is of the same quality, however, it probably is a nice coating. Not durable apparently, but it doesnt mean its low quality.

Yeah it is, otherwise the coating would be thick enough to not be permanently damaged by cleaning it. We're talking about a reflector here, not glass.

My EDC light. I went USB rechargeable because I need to use it for at least 3-4 hours a day and buying batteries at that rate is too expensive for me.

Powered by an 18650 cell, 5 brightness settings (14/50/180/480/960) with an independent momentatry/on pressure tailcap switch.

I really like this thing. It's big, but I use it constantly throughout the night, it's pretty much a primary light source, not a back up.

I've had several streamlight lights break in use. Their Chinese made lights seem especially subpar in quality. Streamlight are now especially a company that embodies a modern multinational company mentality. Cheap shit out, outsource as much of the product as you can, and reap the benefits of the reduced costs.
