Jungle mags are to increase you reload speed because you didn't want to put 20 rounds in your 20 round magazine because the spring sucked and couldn't take it, so you only had 17 rounds before reloading and reloading from the bandolier while retaining spent mags was too slow.

Yeah, it just seemed like a fun project and I was initially going to have him do it all but then started reading about it and watching videos and began wanting to do it myself.
I'll just have him do it and find another winter project on something less finicky. Maybe I'm just headstrong because I overhauled a 500 last winter by refinishing a vintage stock and forearm set and replaced all polymer and low end parts. I didn't have to do much fitting though at all.

I have a tuned 1911, and it required a quality smith. That stuff is never as drop in as claimed, and it requires fitting by an expert who knows what he is doing.
When we built my gun, it took several months, and he would install some parts, and I'd pick it up, shoot it, give him feedback, and then we either move on to the next parts, or adjust what I didn't like.
It was worth doing in the long run, but it's a project that requires patience.

Much of it really isn't going to affect the operation of the firearm. I bought a few different weighted mainsprings just to find the right one for ensuring I don't get light primer strikes with a Ti firing pin. I'm going to start with the standard 23 lb mainspring in a new flat mainspring housing.
Pretty much it's going to be the trigger, sear, sear spring, disconnector, extractor, and ejector that are going to be what I'm most concerned about.
Unless I'm wrong, the commander hammer, beavertail, mainspring housing, hammer strut, slide stop and extended thumb safety shouldn't be too much of a worry. Oh and the magazine release, plug, recoil spring, and guide rod shouldn't take too much fitting I wouldn't think.
But yeah, when I take it in and go over everything with him, I'm sure we'll work out a solid plan.
Also rather than getting a new barrel, I'm just going to have him polish the feed ramp and throat.

Look, I'm not trying to give you a hard time, really. I just believe we (as gun nuts) will be better served focusing on our marksmanship, speed, etc than adding gadgets or messing with internals of a firearm.
I do believe that messing around with your defensive guns (sights, grips, notwithstanding), is a waste of your time and money, and that would be better served by taking a 2-day course from a reputable instructor.
I also think in the post Zimmerman era, the wrong people will use anything they can against you. Juries aren't gun nuts, and any gun nut will be excused most likely. The only way that could really get you (at least in a criminal case) is if the prosecutor tried to say you shot the guy accidentally.
