Was meant to be used to blow open a bank vault, which was the plot for the Clint Eastwood movie Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.

>using a suppressor
>to blow open a bank vault

seriously criminals are retarded. Why would you use a suppressor if an alarm is going to go off when the bank vault is breached anyway?

>muh ears

Wear goddamn earpro then.

All the sucessful break ins I've heard about have been

>who cares how much noise we make, alarms are going to go off and police will get here in X minutes anyway
>get in as fast as possible
>grab predetermined shit quickly
>get out as fast as possible

The only situation where stealth would be an issue would be a house robbery where there is no alarm or some other store that they know has no security system.

Otherwise moving fast and getting the hell out matters above all else.

I know a gun store that's been robbed several times and has had to increase its security each time.

Last time the jokers drove a stolen truck through the front window to break through the metal shutter stuff, still knew where what they wanted to grab was even with a smoke system going off that was installed after the last robbery to slow down intruders, and loaded what they wanted into a truck.

In and out in under 5 minutes. I'm sure the cops were thrilled when they arrived.

That gun store has now installed freaking rocks around the perimeter of the property and a gate that gets closed at night to prevent vehicles from driving into the place.

I've seen that image posted repeatedly for years and I only just now noticed that it was camouflaged.

Fucking why? Like, that thing is a static suppressor for ballistics testing. It's not going into combat. I understand that painting it reduces corrosion, but why not just paint it monotone?

They almost all got away clean, one of the guy's buyer for the funs got nervous and squealed. Ended up in the pen and a pysch ward before dying. Everyone else made it clear only $16 of the 425k was ever recovered.

I knew an old guy who bought one of these (sans oil barrel) back in the 60s and had an interesting story about it.

> buy fuckall huge 20mm rifle for a song because dat glorious Camelot-era gun culture
> buy coke bottle-sized shells for it
> take it out to hill in pasture
> consume beers, sight in on stump 100 yards away on another hilltop
> squeeze trigger..... BOOM
> vision clouded by tears and blown dust, ears ringing, shoulder numb
> pull up binoculars, see fist-sized hole in stump
> greatsuccess.jpg
> notice movement on hill 100 yards behind stump...
> see neighbor's prized Hereford bull thrashing around and bawling with its guts strung out around it
> had to fork over a shitload of money to neighbor, sheriff's office took gun, got dirty looks in church for three decades afterwards

Vaults are only wired for the entrance. If you can blow a hole in a side-wall, you can crawl in with no problem. However, banks get around this by making a triple-rebar reinforced concrete cube around the vault, so you will realistically have to go through 18" of concrete mixed with rebar before you get to the giant rolled-steel plate vault.

If you want some quick cash, go hit up K-mart after closing for a smash-and-grab in the jewelry section. Department stores tend to be kind of high-risk though, and have PD within a three-minute response.
>>
>>28446224
There is no realistically achievable robbery venue that is worth the risk.

The old Jolly Roger bank job/cash truck bit is no good anymore. Private security will open fire as soon as they think anything is up.
>>
>>28441962
Wait, I don't get it.

So they stuck the barrel through the improvised suppressor? That will do nothing to quiet the blast. Unless they did something dumb like drill holes in the barrel. But then they're seriously handicapping the rifles power.

All they would need to do is bring a barrel and the gun, put the barrel against the wall, put the gun muzzle against the barrel, put somethign heavy behind it, and shoot.

That would have suppressed it as well as anything else would have.
>>
>>28446434
You ever see the muzzle end of a Lahti?
They have a massive muzzle break. It would definitely dump most gas into the drum.
>>
>>28446475
I see the thinking, but that's not nearly enough room to trap that volume of gas effectively and you would still have all the gas (the majority) inertia flying out the muzzle end.

A jackhammer would be quieter. Explosives would be quicker and more effective.
>>
>>28446505
Still quieter than not using the drum.
I seem to recall this whole thing being in the back of a van. Certainly would help hide it and the noise then.
