Russian and Chinese is better than Yugo. Keep it as original as possible. Standard advice applies about being sure to check the bore and search for rust, take it all apart and inspect before you buy, etc.

That's about as good a reason as you can have. Any reason you wouldn't consider a budget AK like a WASR?

No not really they were my two options. Only downside is buying magazines would be a bit expensive. I have an ar15 so id be changing up alot but i suppose it isnt off the table.

Spent 2 hours cleaning the guts, then i had to go to work.. that barrel and stock is all i can think about.. i wana clean that shit si bad..

completely understandable. Given the prices SKS's have been commenting lately, it can be worthwhile to just take the step up to a more versatile weapon in the same caliber. It comes down to preference, really.

Either are less likely to be worn to hell and don't have the finicky muzzle device.

Clear the weapon.
Point the receiver towards a light, look into barrel, look for dark spots, and inspect the rifleing.
If you can feild strip it, check for rust inside the reciever, on the bolt, bolt carrier, dust cover. Shake the bolt, it should rattle.
Reassemble it, safty off, mag open, rack it, pull the trigger and dont let go, rack it, release trigger, listen for it to reset, safety on, pull trigger, shouldnt go click. Trigger works.
No sagging bayonet.
Thats about it.
