Ok ok ok ok sooo... with these new laws what the fuck is going to happen when my grandpa passes and I inherit his guns? "DID HE SELL YOU THESE FIREARMS? MORE THAN TWO??? WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO CONFISCATE THESE BOY."?

Also I didn't see a QTDDTOT in catalog so lets do that

Better question

What's a good, inexpensive bolt-action or semi .223 or similar caliber rifle? Looking for a little learning rifle that isn't a 10/22 because

Not looking for an AR platform either

>>
>>28438748
Why a bolt action for a small caliber like .223? If you do go that route though, I would recommend getting something chambered in 5.56, as it will also shoot .223 - but not the other way around.
>>
>>28438748
>semi .223

ever considered an AR?
>>
>>28438763
Well do you have any suggestions then?
I'm worried 5.56 will kick a bit too hard and may give me a flinch habit. Bolt action so I don't have to worry about whether my ammo pressure will chamber a semi-automatic, especially if I'm firing .223 through a 5.56.

>>
I don't get on /k/ for 4 days and they're already passing a new gun law? What exactly does it entail?
>>
>>28438782
Seriously, consider getting an AR in 5.56. The recoil is almost nonexistent, and there's an insane amount of aftermarket parts if you want to customize it. There's a reason why AR platforms are so popular.

Picked up a new Lee Enfield and am in the process of disassembling it for cleaning.

Two questions: seeing as it's winter and I can't do the garbage bagging and setting it in the sun so I'm planning on going with mineral spirits, and the stock has cleaned up nicely.

The question I've got is the Enfield has those black painted metal parts, if I use mineral spirits on the cosmo, won't I end up taking off the paint too?

Second question is how important is to remove the the handguards and buttstock to remove cosmo underneath? I've read stories of people cracking the stocks trying to remove them from the gun and I'd like to avoid that if possible. It's not like the cosmo is going to hurt the gun when I shoot it right?

AR-15 in my area for $700. It's in 5.45x39 and comes with 6 mags and 180 rounds. Also has a Trijicon TX30 but that bumps the price up to $1200.

The AR is Spikes Tactical with a Adams Arms upper for what that matters.

My question is /k/, is this a good deal? Should I spring for the optic also? He is willing to accept trades but the only thing I am willing to trade is a norinco SKS.

No4 Mk 2

I've watched a number of videos on how to disassemble the things so in theory I know how to, I'm just weighing the benefits of cleaning out the handguards and stock versus the possibility of cracking said stock taking it apart.
>>
>>28439174
Oh, shouldn't have any worries. IIRC there is less chance of cracking or breaking stuff than with a No I Mk III* like what I have.

Do be careful when removing the buttstock. If you don't do it right then yes, you will break your buttstock.
>>
>>28439138
Do it. Pay cash unless you have a second SKS. Optic is not my area of expertise so I will leave that to someone else to answer.
>>
>>28439174
Do it right faggit. Wing it and go slowly, but get all of the cosmoline.

Also, mineral spirits can remove most paints so its probably best to try a different method. Have you thought about baking the steel parts?
>>
>>28439206
Well I doubt he'll trade the whole thing for a SKS but he might knock a few hundred off.

Speak to your LGS first to see if they have any policies in place (for instance, if your LGS sells the gun you want in store they may end up charging you a higher transfer fee so it might not be cheaper for you to go third party)

But basically how it plays out for me it is
1) Buy gun online
2) Dude will send you his information
3) Pay dude
4) You take the information to your FFL and say you bought a gun from them, they'll send their info to your seller
5) Gun arrives at your LGS, they call you in to do paperwork

>>
>>28444631
Personally, I'd use a JHP for a cougar for the same reasons I'd use one on a person.

As for brown bears, bigger really is better. .44, .45/70, that sort of thing. Consensus seems to be handguns are pretty inadequate for a pissed off brown bear, so whatever you can carry.

What are you shooting, rifles or pistols?

either way, you just need to be sure your stance is good, shoulders are forward, you are gripping the weapon consistently and correctly, you are using the sights right, and your trigger pull is consistent and smooth without pulling or compensating for recoil
>>
>>28438853
+ 1 for the Axis, great learning gun.
>>
>>28446516
Pistols mostly.

I took my friend on his first trip to the range a couple weeks ago, and he out shot me at pretty much every distance. Most of my shots ended up way lower than where I was aiming.

I'm not too sure about my stance, but I think my grip is consistent. As far as the sights, you're supposed to line up the front between the rears right? Would compensating for recoil be what causes low shots?
>>
>>28442684
Oh, he wanted to change all kinds of shit. Legally, he couldn't do squat. Read the text of the EO.
>>
>>28446562
Your stance should be braced, like you are about to throw a punch. Do a lot of dry fire practice to make sure your trigger pull is good- put a quarter on the end of the slide and dry fire with it balanced there.
It may pay to get a snap cap and load it into your mags at random next range trip. If you pull the trigger and anticipate recoil, but the gun doesn't fire, you'll notice yourself pushing the gun down.
Another thing to remember- always keep your arm and wrist straight. Aim from the shoulder.

37mm owner here.

They are fun. I got one that's under my A1 clone and it's as close as I will get to owning a M203. The handguard was hotglued onto the barrel so I had to rip that shit off and JB welded it on.

As for using 12 gauge that's ass pounding territory, as well as the danger zone. There are 12 ga. flare adaptors but that's for the shorter, smaller USCG flares that don't do shit. They make a 26.5mm adaptor and it's quite useful since 37mm rounds are pricey.

As for useful rounds, if you're lucky you can find tear gas grenades, smoke grenades, and they sell kits for "bird bangers" which are small explosive rounds meant for taking out birds. I reckon if you "accidentally" drop some nails or ball bearings in the shell you'd have a usefull, improvised grenade but that's again entering ATF ass pounding territory.
>>
>>28448691
I meant a 37mm shell full of buckshot, not a faggy adapter. I've heard of people doing it with flechettes.

Also, if you just register the laucher as a DD BEFORE you get the gud shells, it isn't illegal at all. And still FAAAAR cheaper than a m203 that you won't be able to reload for or get any ammo for.

I am also interested in a 37mm round full of the rubber pellets, a sort of LTL round. Could be useful in a HD situation since I would still have a rifle ready2go if they don't decide to fuck off after the LTL round.

I really don't especially want to kill anyone, even if they break into my home. I would to protect my life if that was the situation, but stopping the person, if possible, before that is preferable for me.

Again, a 37mm buckshot round sounds tits and you're a fag if you don't think so.

I figured with the recent uproar it's time to finally learn - can someone explain what exactly is this "gun show loophole that isn't actually a loophole but everybody says it is because it's scary" is?

I know it has something to do with FFL dealers and NICS checks, but not much past that.
>>
>>28451544
It's a myth that at gunshows you don't have to fill out an FFL because of private sales, but 99% of gunshow sales do involve an FFL.
>>
>>28451544
If you buy from a private party, like off Armslist, you don't need a background check.
It's less a loophole and more an intended feature of the original law

>Fill out an FFL
Eh... 4473?

So, technically, what the antifuns are worried about is someone buying tons of weapons legally and then selling them without background checks to random fucks on the internet, or?
>>
>>28451618
>someone buying tons of weapons legally and then selling them without background checks
already illegal, if you want to sell a ton of guns like that you need an FFL, and therefore need to run background checks. They just hate the fact we're allowed to own guns at all, and are allowed to sell them as our property.

It's just another buzzword for anti-gun politicians and media to use.

I want to submit some stamps before 41p takes effect, the problem is I don't have money for all the NFA shit I want right now.
Can I just submit a few Form 1's with custom serial numbers for the kind of thing I'm trying to make, and engrave that later?

Ex; want to make a SBS, but no shotgun. Submit a Form 1 with serial number 12345. Buy shotgun months later with serial number 67890. Get Trust info + 12345 engraved on it.

Thats case expansion, its really common in the SMLE because of the oversized headspacing (its intentional). Just make sure if you reload you resize the case diameter only and do not resize the case length because otherwise you will eventually get case head separation along those lines.

I know it's legal to make a gun in the US. My question is would converting a replica (say a revolver) to a real firearm be illegal? Now before anyone says that's stupid since a lot of them use pot metal and it would be dangerous. I get that I could just buy one, but I'd be in it for a project.

No, they left a generous headspace so that it wouldn't get fouled by dirt or grime as easy. It still works, it just makes it harder to reload the ammunition.
>>
>>28455334
Wait, kinda misread what you said. You aren't supposed to re-trim the brass to original length, when its been fired out of your rifle it is fine where its at, you just have to resize the diameter of the case opening. Like I said, don't resize the length otherwise it will get weak eventually and you'll separate the case when you go to chamber a new round.

http://www.public.asu.edu/~roblewis/SMLE/IIID2a11a4.html
>>
>>28455334
Enfields have massive headspace because LOL GREAT WAR
Once you fire a round, your brass is now fireformed to your specific chamber. That means it's perfect for your rifle now.
You'll want to neck size only, until your brass won't chamber. Then do a full length resize, and go back to neck sizing. This maximizes the life of your .303 brass.
>>
>>28458252
Headspace is not the term you are thinking of.
Headspace on the Enfield is bolt face to barrel face and is usually good.
Since rimmed rounds don't need anything but the rim to headspace on the brits used their usual practice of making loose chambers. Fast to machine and will handle any ammo reasonably well. Since military ammo isn't usually reloaded a loose fit in the chamber is no concern to them.

Do you concealed carry with a round chambered in a handgun that has no safety? From what I've seen here most people think round chambered is the only way to go. Are you nervous about a ND when you carry with one chambered?
>>
>>28458739
Depends on what you mean by safety. Even glocks have a trigger safety.

I like my XDs in 9mm. Grip safety is an added layer of protection to make sure that I won't ND into my leg when holstering. Otherwise, as long as your holster covers the trigger you should be good to carry one in the chamber. This is general however, some guns it is still unsafe to carry one in the chamber without having the safety engaged.

Alright anons, I pulled the trigger and I'm going to buy it. Going later today (the 7th) to pay and pick it up.

Possibly
From what I understand if you are taking that kind of stuff, your doctor now has the right to report you to the NCIS.
I'm not sure whether this happens automatically based on medical records or if doctors have to report on a case by case incidence.

Having shit on your medical record that prevents you from owning a firearm would be complete bullshit though. Nobody knows whats on their medical record and any old doctor can scribble down some diagnosis based on his opinion. Hell I wonder if it still says I have ADHD back when that was a thing that existed.
