I'm really stuck pals. 7.62x39 vs. 5.56x45. I want to like the 7.62x39 but 5.56 has so many different ammo types. If I only had to pick one I don't know what I would pick.
i have both an akm and a ar15.

akm is better, but heavier. the ar15 is way easier to shoot and to take out on my land. lighter. but the akm hits harder. different philosophers
7.62x39 if you want to sbr or pistol. 5.56 if you want rifle or carbine.

What for? .223 is a good plinking and small game round, x39 is a better general hunting round. Base your decision on what works best for your purposes.

What distance do you plan to shoot primarily? 7.62x39 will be cheaper and is all around better Imola under 150 yards as far as penetration and tissue damage (especially if using soft points), however it drops hard. 556 is much better than 7.62x39 past 150 yards due to less drop. Idk, they each have pros and cons and relatively perform the same. The greatest difference I can think of is their drop rate.

Depends on purpose. I needed a gun that I could effectively hunt medium sized game with and still be a good semi auto defensive rifle so I went with the akm for it's harder hitting cartridge.

I prefer the AKM. It's plenty accurate, and you can always put a scope on as well. 7.62x39 hollow points are absolutely devastating
