Gonna build a AR-10 in 308 win. I need cheap suppliers for upper parts. Already have a lower with parts and buffer kit.
Anyone know where to get the PRS cheap?

I'm doing the same. Aero Precision uppers and BCGs seem good. Black Hole Weaponry makes a damn good barrel. J.L. Billet makes good light handguards. Gas blocks are pretty similar unless you want adjustable, then SLR is pretty advantageous.

What are your goals for the rifle?

Gunbroker is probably your best bet
>>
>>28418946
Oh yeah, I picked up a PRS stock for $186, AR10 variety on midway the other day in OD green. They seem to have FDE on sale for under $200 now. Not sure your goals though.

Build one that is a scout/hunt/close to medium plongking/long distance accuracy
>>
>>28419246
Not sure i have goals. I was just looking at the Aero stuff. All very reasonable. Id like to plink at 700 yards.
>>
I really wish 308 ars were cheaper
>>
>>28420044
If you want cheap, get a 22
308 is not a cheap round, you use it when you're ready to step up your shooting game
>>
>>28420044
you can build one for less than you can buy a ptr91
>>
>>28420081
>If you want cheap, get a 22
>308 is not a cheap round
savage axis MSRP is 400 and under
mil spec ar-15 is 600 and under
I can't seem to find the stuff to build/buy an ar-10 for under 1000
>>
>>28420020
Plink at 700yrds huh? I don't think I'd call 700yrds "plinking". You're gonna need to build pretty decent to hit reliably at that range. Barrel, optics, trigger, and optic mounts are going to matter a pretty good bit.
>>
>>28420207
Keeping this in mind I'm looking at a 20" berral at rifle length gas of course, probably going to drop 600 on a scope and 150 on a mount. I just want the cheapest place to buy the stuff.
>>
>>28420159
You can get pretty close to $1000 for an AR-308 build:

TNArmsCo .308 Lower: $96
Aero Complete Upper: $155
Underground Tactical Bolt Carrier Group: $170
Anderson Manufacturing Buffer Kit: $55
Magpul MOE Stock: $28
Takedown Pins for .308: $18
Yankeehill Handguard: $160
Gas Tube: $15
Cheap Gas Block: $20
Strike Industries Charging Handle: $32
Spikes Lower Parts kit: $62
Radical Firearms 18" Barrel: $160
Bird Cage Flash Hider: $15
.308 PMag: $19

Total: $1005

Most of the parts aren't even shit.

get a 16" barrel

Looks like my AR hehe
>>
>>28420409
Honestly, you could probably hit 700yrds with an 18" barrel. It's about 200FPS of difference. 20" is easier of course. $600 is plenty for a scope. Just make sure it's a good 20" barrel. 700yrds still won't be easy. Anyone who thinks so hasn't tried to shoot at 700yrds reliably.
>>
>>28420417
The problem is when you get a list like that its worth dropping 20 to 40 extra per part to get something better. The Aero handguard is 200 and a lot lighter than YHM.
>>
>>28420448
So its worth trying to get the 20"? Its either that or a SASS 18".
>>
>>28420475
Of course. I'd spend more on the barrel first, personally. This isn't my list, it's just a list as close to $1000 as possible. It wouldn't be a truly terrible rifle, but if you've only got $1k, you've only got $1k.
>>
>>28420493
I ordered a 20" Blackhole Weaponry barrel, but my gun is going to be shooting from a bench or a stand. If your'e going to carry it and do anything close up, I'd highly consider 18". Sounds like you're going to be shooting from a bench and/or bipod if you're plinking at 700yrds mostly. If that's the primary goal, I'd stick to 20".
>>
>>28420513
>>28420549
I appreciate your input. I'll probably stick to 18". Any barrel recommendation? Aero?
>>
You need more kappa.
>>
>>28420020
>700 yards

Tikka T3 or CZ 550 for around $600, spend saved money on Optics and Ammo
>>
>>28420513
personally, the conflict I have mostly about the ar-10 is that if I really wanted a platform for 308, alternatives at comparable quality are 400-600 cheaper, which could be put towards more ammo or w/e
>>
>>28420587
Do you want to go balls out or just good enough? I'll say it again, Blackhole Weaponry is the good enough answer. Poly rifling and good steel used for their barrels. There are a few other options out there too. For going balls out, it's going to need to be custom. Krieger or any of the other custom barrel makers would work then. Buying an off the shelf or semi-custom barrel will be about $300-350. A custom barrel will take about three months and cost about $600 or so.

>>28420625
I'm not sure what semi-auto .308 platform costs $400-$600 less than an entry AR10. If you're talking bolt action, well then, no shit. Much more simple design.
>>
Ballistic advantage makes good AR10 barrels and can be had for very cheap (16" for $144 sub moa guaranteed).

I would suggest getting a bolt 308 for long distance though. I just built an Aero 308 and it's pretty damn heavy, and you don't have much need for semiauto at those distances. I built it for <$1K and now I'm looking at selling it

Also in the same price range, there are Rainer Arms and Fulton Armory. All of those have their fans and make good barrels. Between Blackhole Weaponry, Ballistic Advantage, Fulton Armory, and Rainer Arms, it's tough to go wrong.

Hats off to you motherfucks that can put together your ARs piece by piece. Fuck that noise I find building a car is easier than researching every single piece down to the fucking hammer and pins.

I had a guy in country who did overwatch with an armalite with 2 different uppers. Figured I'd save up to go that route whenever works decides to pick up.
>>
>>28420874
Fuck armalite these days. DPMS pattern is where it's at. There are plenty of good prebuilts in that format. LWRC and Knights Armament come to mind. Armalite lost the AR10 pattern battle.
>>
>>28420874
If you're doing rebuilt, as >>28420924 said, dpms g2 (or a new m&p-10; some of their 'old' rifles had issues). Dpms really did that rifle great from what everyone says. The other brands like sig, colt, and armalite just ride on their brand name to get people to buy their ar-10's. If you want something more that a $1400 ar-10, save for a 17S.
>>
>>28420924
>DPMS pattern is where it's at.
Then I run into the various amounts of hate for DPMS according to forums and reviews. I looked at Knights and LWRC and if I remember correctly thinking id just buy 3 rifles for the price of their one.

I'm not meaning to contradict brother, my opinion is based off seeing another real person without another 249 or m4 and asking him "what the fuck is that?" and him telling me what it is and how much he leaned in it and it always came through.
>>
>>28421038
Dpms' 308 line is very different from their 556 line of AR's. Especially just their LR308 pattern, it's becoming the industry standard.
>>
>>28421069
Too bad some companies are trying to make their own shitty patterns. The fucking PSA PA-10 is all proprietary. They used to be a good way to get a decent rifle, now they won't get my money.
>>
>>28421038
It's not about DPMS. DPMS isn't the company making the rifle. There are two major patterns of AR10, DPMS and Armalite. The DPMS pattern has significantly more parts, particularly magazines. That's a pretty damn important distinction, since good mags can make a gun.

Now secondly, are you sue it wasn't an M110? There were never any major buy of Armalite rifles by the US DOD. There were quite a bit of M110 buys, which are based on the DPMS pattern Knights Armament rifles.
>>
>>28421069
I remember specifically the LR cause it won like the NRAs rifle of the year in 2010 and being as accurate as a bolt gun yadayada and researching into DPMS and that's where I ran into all the filth people were spewing about it. And looking at the G2 or GII whatever, I see people bitching about the firing pin/bore. Shit never ends. Bathe the fuckers in solid gold and it aims itself people will bitch that it doesn't wipe their ass as well.
>>
>>28421149
>are you sue it wasn't an M110?
No idea. Up until I seen this fuckin randy in Al Asad I never seen one of us carry some custom shit. I remember the armalite seal being on it and he called it an armalite so that's about it.
>>
>>28421290
Unless it was a contractor, you're not US, it was some sort of custom one off thing, or you're misremembering an M110, then I don't know what it could be. There was never a contract and model designation for any Armalite AR-10 rifles in the modern DOD. If it was an M110, that's a damn good rifle.
>>
>>28421358
Naw. Both of us marines. And I could be fucked up but I remember that symbol but he'll it could have been an M110 and he was a fucktard like the lot of us so there's that.

Oh yeah, lots of fucktards in every branch. Lots of fucktards everywhere though. Armalite is closely identified with AR10 rifles, so I could see mistakes happening. They're not really the best these days though. You can do a lot better. I'd avoid the PSA AR10 though.

If it looked like this, you've got an M110. Fucking cool rifle. Also comes with a can.
