What would happen upon firing a single loaded handgun without a magazine? Would some gases escape through the space normally occupied by the magazine? How common are the no-magazine safeties?
>>
>>28415963
nothing would happen. and they're getting more common as years go by.
>>
>>28415963
>what would happen
Most models fire no problem, sometimes the brass doesn't eject right because the extractor relies on something being under the spent case to drag it against until it hits the ejector.
>no-mag safeties
Are fucking retarded.

yes, what of it?

Ever wipe down your mags after you fire them and find that black residue on them? That is from the gasses 'escaping' through the mag-well.
>>
>>28415963
shooting pistols without the mag inserted actually decreases the possibility for it to blow up

like the 40sw glocks
>>
I know Glocks will fire without a magazine, because there have been many instances of dumb ass cops putting extended mag releases on and it releasing when they pull their gun to fire.
>>
>>28416759
Not using ammunition decreases the blow up risk even more.

D-do you even know
>>

>gasses escape through the mag-well

Yes, a little bit of dirty gas gets in there, just like when firing with a magazine in it too.

The firearm "locks" before being fired to keep the gasses contained in the barrel and moving forward with the bullet just long enough for pressure to decrease and then the reciprocating mass (usually) travels rearward extracting and ejecting the spent case.

Magazine safeties are absolutely fucking retarded, why the fuck would it NOT fire?

and OP, if you're bleeding gas out near the brass, it's going to fucking explode or at least not operate properly.
>>
>>28415963
If its a recoil operated pistol, ie its simply powered by the the recoil of firing the round. it'd just fire, and eject the cartridge.

But really it shot fine. seemed to do a fail to extract and lots of stove piping though, and it obviously wouldn't lock back.

8/10 range day
>>
>>28416983
To further clarify, the magazine is NOT part of the locking system critical to firing.

The firearm will fire a single round just fine, but not be able to load another round for firing, as the magazine holding more boolits isn't present.

>The firearm "locks" before being fired to keep the gasses contained in the barrel
Even if the breech isn't locked (i.e. blowback guns), the casing itself still forms a very effective seal with the chamber walls until it has extracted considerably - by which time most of the gasses have already escaped through the muzzle.

If you've ever looked into an open chamber just after firing and seen smoke wafting around in there, that's about the extent of gasses that might be escaping into the magwell. That's it.

things that never happened for 400, alex
>>

I'm aware it's a hell of a lot less than the gasses used for firing, but it's still dirty as shit and gets in the action just like most every firearm.
