Sup /k/?
Im looking into stockpiling food. Now here is the thing, I live in an apartment and I have a bug out place but. No food. So what does /k/ recommend for long term storage foods and related goods? I have a smoker and hunt a bit but good game is already scarce around here. So smoking/salting is only supplementary.

TL;DR what kinds of preserved foods/brands should I get that will last forever~? Canned goods, MREs or Brands?
Pic unrelated.

If this takes off I hope it turns into a /k/ooking thread.

hot pockets and instant noodles
pretty much what I normally eat, so theres no extra risk involved with switching diet when SHTF

stay safe brothers

Sugar keeps literally forever and has a ridiculous amount of calories per pound. Peanut oil is also extremely calorie dense and lasts for about three years.

Needless to say, these are dietary supplements and not staple foods.

For that, you might want to try whole grains (have a crank operated grinder and powdered milk.
>>
Two 40 packs of bottled water
Canned fruits/veggies/meay
Peanut butter
Bulk oatmeal

That's about the best you can do in an apartment

man i want some pancakes

Long term storage? You can store an asston of rice in 5 gallon buckets, packed in mylar bags with oxygen absorbents/desiccant bags. MRE's are awesome, taste pretty alright, and have a fuckton of vitamins in them, but are way more costly than a 20lb bag of rice. Canned goods are bulky, dont provide as much nutrients, and if you get a hole in them you could give yourself severe botulism. if you absolutly need canned shit, can your own shit in mason jars that you could reuse, cans are one and done.

As far as lasting forever rice/dehydrated foods are your best bet. MRE's do have an expiration date, as do canned goods.

I plan on eating the people that come seeking shelter

Well I have room for it. But it would take up lots of space, but its food so its necessary.
I do have a bunch of proper water storage stuff I got off a friend. He didnt use any of it and I got it for a steal of a deal.

staples first

sugar, salt, honey, flour, beans, rice.

everything gets vacuum sealed in mylar bags in no greater than 5-10lbs portions except the honey then stored in food grade HDPE buckets with gamma seal lids.
>>
>>28415805
Get into hot water canning, OP. Get an el cheapo pressure cooker while you're at it.
>>
White rice
Brown/wild rice
Dried beans
Dried (feed) corn
In shell sunflower seeds, peanuts, walnuts, hickory nuts, almonds
Large plastic jugs of vegetable or peanut oil
Large tubs of shortening
Big bags of all purpose flour that have been shrink wrapped or bagged and taped

Unless you are stockpiling enough food to last for more than a couple weeks, there are commercial options that are worth looking at, such as the Wise products.

http://www.wisefoodstorage.com/long-term-food-supply.html

Things like this are designed for stable storage. Most are also easy to prepare, which I consider important in a survival situation, given that I really don't want to sit around and cook rice, waiting to get shot.

on a related note, is a fishing pole a good thing to pack for shtf?

Stockpile hard tack, honey, salt, and pepper. All that will pretty much last literally forever, right?

And start a "garden" thing. Plant berry bushes and fruit trees near your bug out place. It'll attract animals for you to murder, also.

Put a utility trailer stocked with sealed 5 gallon buckets of beans, rice, pasta, along with flats of spam, canned mixed veggies, coffee, etc in a storage unit that's on your bug-out route, ideally outside of city limits?
>>
>>28416661

What is the stuff in the container on the right?
>>
>>28415805
Canned foods. The only problem is that they are very high in Sodium. Stuff like Meat and Eggs should work as well.
