What the hell is going on in this thread..
>>28406272
Is it frozen or in formaldehyde?
>>28406105
The .410s are kinda rare and are worth a few hundred more than the 12 and 16 gauge guns but even in pristine condition they only go for around $500
Really good little guns and built like a brick shithouse. great squirrel and rabbit gun
Here's my 12ga 311

My only inherited gun. My Grandpa's Ruger Security Six. A lot of people don't like them but I love mine. It's as accurate as I could ever hope for and after a trigger job it's buttery smooth. He gave it to me on my birthday two years ago and the day after he was hospitalized. He died 2 days later. None of us had any idea he was so sick.

Pretty nice looking ruger anon
This is a Browning HP I inherited from my Grandpa. He gave it to me shortly before he died. It was in pristine condition, his favorite gun and he wanted me to have it to pass to future generations. Anyway long story short I stored it in the bilge of my boat for close to 10 years in a softcase and it got pretty waterlogged. It has now developed surface rust. I need to try to buff it out to get that beautiful blue back again.
>>28412981
I remember you you should feel bad.
>>28412981
That's going to need a new blue entirely
>>28412981
My god...
>>28413005
I tried to remove some of the surface rust with a vinegar soak, then tried a bleach soak, no luck yet. I don't want to try any abrasive until a gunsmith looks it over. A good buffing wheel would probably work wonders and reveal some of that deep blue under the rust but I dont have access to one right now.
>>28413019
It's going to need to be reblued, full stop.
>>28413048
I'm not so sure of that. I've seen worse gun restored beautifully. This looks bad but it is mostly surface rust.
>>28413059
Nigger. The bluing is compromised. At best you'll get 70% blue.
But no way will that ever look sexy without a strip and rust blue.
>>28413068
What you dont understand is that this is surface rust. There are some patches where you can see the bluing still underneath it. I just need a way to buff off or chemically strip the surface rust and most if not all of the blue should be intact underneath it.
>>28413079
Blue is rust.
Any chemical strip will remove the blue as well.
>>28413121
Not if it is formulated for rust (iron oxide). I was thinking clp or oxyclean might loosen it a bit.
>>28413128
bro that thing is dead and pitted. Dont lie to yourself, you killed your heirloom hahahaha bet you are a real winner
>>28413213
>no guns confirmed
nice try but im not going to fall for negative nancy from the internet, I know it can be brought back to 90-95% easily
>>28413225
70% max bro, seriously.
Find me a gun that looked that bad and came out 90% after the fact.
>>28413225
I guess you could always bondo the rust and then sell.
>damn this thing is lightweight
>yeah its a rare model
>only 300 rounds fired
>>28412981
Did that come out of a shipwreck
>>28413297
Basically, it was in the bilge of my boat soaking in water for close to 10 years. I had forgotten about it and only just remembered.
>>28414126
I gotta agree with >>28413213
You definitely killed a nice heirloom lol
>>28414126
If we hooked a generator to your Grampa's corpse, his spinning would power our entire civilization.
>>28412768
Thanks comrade. I love it.
This
>>28414126
look up electrolysis, it works wonders. dont use chemicals or mechanical means, electrolysis will attack only the rust and get it out of everywhere, even crevices and pitted pockmarks where your wire brushes wouldnt be able to get
>>28415076
As a metals conservator, I will tell you that electrolysis with 100% take any of his imaginary bluing off as well.
My parents just got my Grampa's .35 Rem Marlin 336, but since they're getting pretty old and can't really fire it I'm pretty certain I'm getting it.
It's been sitting unused for a couple decades now, and the stock needs to be reoiled, but the action seems to be in good shape and the scope, mounted on a flip-away rings set, looks to be ok, but a cheap old Bushnell that's a bit banged up and no issue to replace.

Posting the guns my mom got from her dad, and what I'm getting from her

I didn't want to start my own thread but I'm 20, in college, just moved into a house with a buddy of mine and I am looking to get my first rifle. I have no experience with firearms. What do?
>In Texas
>Also I'm a baller on a budget.
>>28416514
10/22
>>28416552
Any specific rifle? I feel like if I walk into a gun store I'm going to get taken advantage of if I say "I'm looking for my first rifle in 10/22 and I know nothing about fire arms"
>>28416665
Ruger 10/22 is the most popular semi-auto .22lr rifle.
>>28412981
People are still falling for this pasta after what, 2 years?
