Had this. Died after 3 visits to the beach (swimming and such). Water got into the watch and the sand clogged up the side buttons.

Casio G-Shock. Pick whichever one has the features you want. If you don't want the shouty styling of the G-Shock, get an Oceanus. Same tough movement, but a little more subtle.

I've had one for 4 years whilst serving in an Army commando regiment.

Oh I forgot to mention Marathon also makes great field watches that are issued to the US military. Quartz and automatic versions, and an option for tritium vials.

And Vostok Komandirskie or Amphibia are tough as nails and $30-$60.

I've had this gshock for nearly two years, and wear it every damn day. I like this model of gshock, as it's not a gigantic spare tire on your wrist and looks like the classic casios from the 80s. I set the time last April, and only corrected it for the last dst a few weeks ago. Only off by 5 seconds.

I have one of these.

One thing I did immediately was order a nylon 3-ring 2-piece "NATO" watch band for it.

Metal and rubber piss my skin off, nylon hasn't and I've been wearing the thing nonstop for a few weeks at this point. Got to keep a watchband relatively loose unless you like a rash, also.

Sensor package is sort of "meh."

I haven't calibrated anything yet, but it's about 90 deg on my wrist, which means you have to take the watch off to get any kind of good reading.

Using the altimeter, it WAS kinda need being able to tell when we began to descend on the last commercial flight I took. Cabin altitude hovers at 7-8k ft at cruise, then decreases as you come down.

Thing's fucking huge, like stonehenge on my wrist, but that's the fashion lately.

I have some timex thing with a leather wrist strap that's worked pretty well for the time I've had it. Ticks really loud but I don't mind so much and it has a nice clean face and isn't loaded up with unnecessary bullshit. It tells you the time and what day it is, and that's it. It also glows in the dark. Got it for like 45 bucks.

I have a g-shock, protrek and Suunto ambit 3, Seiko skx009 I use for outdoor work.

Suunto is a nice toy but requires recharging almost daily. Sturdy, easy to read. Lots of features. Expensive for what you get.

G-Shock is solid, depending on the model it can be hard to read. They are extremely rugged. Good value.

Casio Protrek, easy to read but has a lot of shit I would never use, it's good if you want a gear queer watch. Rugged.

Seiko skx Diver, mechanical movement, the reserve on mine is about 16 hours, if you don't wear it then it dies. Easy to read, simple and sturdy. Good mechanical for the price.

Any of these I would take to the field, I have a couple of G-shocks and for the price they are hard to beat.

Got a $50 check from my grandfather for Christmas, think I'm gonna buy me one of these bad boys. Rugged but doesn't have 100 extra features that I'd have no use for and it doesn't look like an Xbox on my wrist.

>>28408056
Got the SKX as well. Such a nice mechanical watch. I think I'll never go back to quartz, except for my F-91W. Omega Speedmaster Professional or pepsi Rolex GMT Master II (yeah yeah I know) on my wishlist right now.

Do you have it with that Presidential bracelet like in the pic or the Jubilee?

>>28407712
The atomic time is a cute thing but if SHTF it'll run off the clock eventually. Without it's longwave external time signal they become pretty inaccurate.

Why would you do that when you can get legitimately HAQ watches that don't need a satellite signal for that kind of money? If the SHTF tomorrow you're going to want to know the exact time down to the second years from now, not dealing with 30+ seconds of drift every month.
>>
>>28407081
That's handsome as fuck. I think i'll have one sooner or later
>>
>>28413467
I have it. I use it for running because it has a good pace/buddy program. Bought it off of Govx for 299 last year. The maps suck though. I don't think there is ever going to be a Tactix 2 though. Fenix 3 is out which is way better than this.

Invictas are awesome, but their brass and gold lines are tacky as fuck. They're built like fucking tanks, but dealing with customer service is a pain in the ass. A month into owning my second pro diver, it stops working altogether, so I send it in for service and it ends up costing 50 bucks and it takes a month to get it back.
>>
>>28417596
This was my first watch, and I'm with you.

I wear it when I work on cars or generally beat around with it on, and it's a solid watch.

My autism kicks in a little when the second hand doesn't line up with the tick marks.
>>
>>28413363
Nice looking watch, needs a wider strap though. I hate when you can see spring bar between the lugs like that.
