What will it take for aircraft development to accelerate again like it did after WW2?

War, or even better, cold war. A worthy advesary and US fear mongering helps too.

The government to release top secret information.

This.
Do not understimate pic related.

Cold War against a nation that's both a threat and capable of technological superiority to the USA
>>
A huge leap in energy.

jet engines were a huge leap in power to weight and allowed super sonic flight.
>>
>>28401207
That would only result in the adversary reaching tech parity. Military aviation technology has deviated significantly from civilian function.

This.

We haven't fought anyone that required us to really roll out the big guns since Korea. If the United States were facing a foe that could challenge or deny its airforce then we would see things suddenly start being "discovered" and put into production very quickly.

This.

Why make new fighters when we can just keep upgrading Eagles that are still viable in combat. Everyone is playing ketchup and we are becoming stagnant
>>
Why do you need it to accelerate when you can get it right with extensive simulation. No need to crank out shit and see if it sticks.

I want meme planes like this. Powered by nuke power, capable of retarded maneuvers, space flight, and transformation.

For low speed aircraft (M<0.3) we need better energy storage methods (higher energy density/volume) and lighter electric motors.

For high speed aircraft (M~1) we need better high temp materials so we can drive turbine inlet temp up.

For very high speed aircraft (M>3 and up) we need better technology for handling heat buildup.

What you saw was a greater visibility of aircraft development.

A reason for them to go fast.

As it turns out, the sound barrier isn't unbreakable, but it's a huge pain in the ass for commercial aviation.

This has fucking nothing to do with your failure of a "point". Take your pills or something, you seem to be in delirium.
