Can we have a thread about US Special Operations?

Pictures, stories, book recs, etc. welcome. Would especially be interested in Special Forces and Rangers.

This is a pretty good book about the Special Forces team that supported Hamid Karzai during the initial invasion of Afghanistan. Includes an account of some very demoralizing friendly fire though.

Books: get selected!, chosen soldier. I haven't read the other ones that chronicle actual experience in field (lions of kandahar, gentlemen bastards, the only thing worth dying for, etc.) but I'm sure those could give some more insight. I can recommend the two that I did read though, for the prospective candidate or people just interested in it.

Killing the compromise would not have made any difference. The "herder" was send in the direction to search for the seals, like other guys in other directions. If this guy didn't return the main taliban force would have been send in that direction anyway.
They should have pulled out, instead they relocated to another OP location nearby.
They didn't give up the mission, that is why they died. And so did Turbine 33.

Someone that HQ (who shouldn't have been there in the first place) brought with them was calling in some bombs, and when he tried to recalibrate his laser range finder he reset it to his own coordinates. He brought down a 2,000 pound bomb in the middle of their position. They determined it was a combination of a lack of experience with the equipment and faulty equipment design.

Probably field manuals.
Or literature on how not to underestimate people who are fighting wars since their birth.
If you are compromised you failed your mission and have to pull out, there is no way to make wrongs right.
Killing the people who found you would not have fixed the compromise. They would have been missed by the people in the village. Which would trigger a search party too.

You must understand that the very few who profit from war, those famalies, they fuel the wars. For profit and power.... At the cost of us, the average humans. Halting our progress and taxing populations into slavery.

Taxes are modern slavery. Fiat currency is slavery, war is culling the independence supporters.

Take the bush - queen of England - Adolf Hittler relativity. They are related....

Even more so consider the continual fiat currency and media storms.

>>
>>28404578
A lot of propaganda goes into making the US appear to be the "good guy". It's rammed into your head from birth. It's on display at every football game. We're a hyper nationalistic country. Most people really really don't get to see the effects of what our good intentions because we've exported the conflicts to the other side of the globe. They join thinking they're doing the right thing or to get out of shit situations. Most people don't join because they're bloodthirsty. Some do but a good portion of these drank the kook aid being dished out by the state.

>>
>>28405392
>Doesn't change the fact that OBL got help from the US in the 80's

He didn't. I can understand why people think he would have, but if you have a good depth of knowledge of OBL/AQ, all the Salafi/Qutb/Wahabbi shit and the Muj during the Soviet invasion then you'd understand how ridiculous it is. But again I can see how it would make sense that he did, with a simpler understanding of the issue.

>and that ISIS is the direct result of US foreign policy.

The US foreign policy is just one of a whole multitude of reasons. Not a direct result of. For all we know if Saddam was still around then JTJ/AQI and al Nusra wouldn't have had the split and have more control over Syria if the civil war was still to happen. Again for all we know it still would have spilled over to Iraq, causing all the non-Sunnis in Iraq to rise up against Saddam and just have the exact same situation as Syria in Iraq. It's all what-ifs.

But anyway this isn't even what the first post was about. It was about all the anti-US propaganda trying to say that the US is stirring up shit in the region for some comical notion of some people getting richer. If they changed the top of the conspiracy to al-Baghdadi instead of bankers, the Illuminati or whoever, then it'd be more plausable as him and his kin are the ones getting richer.

We learned in the Vietnam thread yesterday that MACV SOG in Nam' had nerve gas grenades that would temporarily paralize you if you inhaled the smoke. They would throw the grenades in to villages and shit and stroll in wearing gas masks, everyone was awake but unable to move, they would look for people holding weapons and kill them, leaving the unarmed villagers alone.

That's the official history. The opposing view is that the CIA didn't do the actual legwork of distribution, they hired Pakistanis and such to do that, and there are known islamist sympathies in the ISI. Sure. I'd like to drop a package to retrain into cct after this deployment. I think they've got a wicked neat job

There were no "goat herders".

Look up bravo 2-0. It's almost a word for word account of red wings 13 years in advance.

The seals got caught and btfo by 4 goat fuckers and all their coolguy "to cool for school" lack of preparation showed how vulnerable SOF is if they actually buy into how exceptional they are as warriors.

So the military turned around and spun it as "muh seals too honorable to save their own lives" instead of "retarded cowboys fail to plan" of which a LESSON could have been learned to have prevented those men from dying with nothing to show for it.

I'm looking into possibly enlisting as CCT, totally agreed. Do you have any personal experience with them? Specifically do you know the class sizes? Being such a small group a can't imagine they are very big.

Come up with one plausible scenario that an ISIS or something similar to it can exist today if the US did not:

1. Invade Iraq
2. Try to topple Assad in Syria

Sorry I can't give a straight answer. Since I'm already in I would go down to a preliminary in doc. The guy I know who went down had a 50 man class and only 3 of them were allowed to continue to the actual course. I'm not sure about the actual pipeline classes,

Best of luck man. Why cct?

The actual work they do is immensely interesting to me. The idea of using tactical capabilities and their responsibilities sound like a job I would enjoy. I also like the idea of working in the SOG community, though from a more tactical role.

ISIS started in Iraq, and then moved into Syria. Al-Nusra stated as a Syrian branch of Al-Quaeda in Iraq, then split off.
They were never purely Syrian movements, and are full of foreign fighters. Lurk the "Syria General" thread in /pol/, if you want some boots-on-the-ground proof.

Yeah. It's been about a year since the original thread. I don't think any of us can conclusively say what pushed him to the brink, but survivors guilt is likely. I know he was engaged or recently married before he killed himself though which I think is strange.
