Pictures, stories, book recs, etc. welcome. Would especially be interested in Special Forces and Rangers.
This is a pretty good book about the Special Forces team that supported Hamid Karzai during the initial invasion of Afghanistan. Includes an account of some very demoralizing friendly fire though.

Books: get selected!, chosen soldier. I haven't read the other ones that chronicle actual experience in field (lions of kandahar, gentlemen bastards, the only thing worth dying for, etc.) but I'm sure those could give some more insight. I can recommend the two that I did read though, for the prospective candidate or people just interested in it.
A good read
there isn't much "balls to the wall" action, but gives an insight into the bureaucracy and command level office politics involved in couter-terrorism.

Someone that HQ (who shouldn't have been there in the first place) brought with them was calling in some bombs, and when he tried to recalibrate his laser range finder he reset it to his own coordinates. He brought down a 2,000 pound bomb in the middle of their position. They determined it was a combination of a lack of experience with the equipment and faulty equipment design.

The US foreign policy is just one of a whole multitude of reasons. Not a direct result of. For all we know if Saddam was still around then JTJ/AQI and al Nusra wouldn't have had the split and have more control over Syria if the civil war was still to happen. ISIS started in Iraq, and then moved into Syria. Al-Nusra stated as a Syrian branch of Al-Quaeda in Iraq, then split off.

Yeah. It's been about a year since the original thread. I don't think any of us can conclusively say what pushed him to the brink, but survivors guilt is likely. I know he was engaged or recently married before he killed himself though which I think is strange.
