Helo /k/ommandos
A friend of mine is looking for books and/or articles about light infantry units. The stuff he is interested in particular is their general purpose in strategic meaning. So not realy specific tactics but their role to play in a whole battle group.

Also feel free to consider this a general light infantry thread

>"Light Infantry"

Spaceship Troopers was a 90's meme movie bro. I was an Infantryman, no such thing.

Some pogs who call themselves "combat arms" might think they are "light infantry" toppest of keks.
>>
what the fuck is LIGHT infantry

There is infantry and not infantry, there is no subclassification of "light" infantry

I bet you don't think "mechanized infantry" exists either.

Light infantry is non mechanized, non airborne, non airmobile, standard light infantry, like 10th mountain.

No Bradleys or strykers or c130s or blackhawks there, not in house.

The advantage to light infantry is low upkeep, and perfect for fighting insurgents.

It's a whole lot less effective and more to hit individuals with ieds than vehicles, because "legs" can take different paths and travel different routes.
It's also hard to bring a Bradley up a mountain.
Helicopters can get shot down
And airborne landings are stupid.

A light infantry group can also focus 100% on infantry shit. No bullshit with 3 practice jumps a month, no motor pool Monday dealing with Bradleys all fucking day. The budget gets spent Just infantry training and gear.

Here's something.

Light infantry is frequently airborne or air mobile. Don't know why you think they wouldn't be.
