Hey /k/, I don't usually post here. I'm trying to do some research for a book, and I was wondering what happens when a 50 cal bullet hits someone in the chest. Would it kill them instantly or what? I know it would probably knock them down at least, but would there be a giant blood explosion or something? I've never seen anything get shot outside of movies and vidya.

No, only central nervous system shots kill instantly. They could bleed out very quickly if they hit the hear.

The Desert Eagle shoots .50 AE, not .50 BMG, which are quite different cartridges.
The ".50" means the diameter of the bullet is .50 inches, so it's 1/2 inch across.
Other than that, they are quite different.
50 AE is as serious as a semi-auto pistol gets though, but that's on par with a middle-of-the-road rifle.
50 BMG will fuck your shit up.

It punches a hole through said chest. If it's a hollow point, the hole in the back of the person's body will be slightly larger than the hole in the front.

.50 AE has about the same energy as 47-70.
It depends, are we talking about the 50 AE or the 50 bmg , if we are talking about the 50 AE a shot any where in the chest would be lethal as they deliver all they're force on inpact, of course it wold do nothing if they are wearing body armor. However if we are talking about the 50 bmg it's I little different but still just as lethal, well a lot more lethal rounds like these go through things.
So to answer you question a shot in the chest, hip, or head would be extremely deadly. I hope this helps.

50BMG does 500 damage - .05 AR
22LR does 10 damage - .5 AR
357 does 50 damage - .4 AR
223 does 40 damage - .3 AR
7.62x39 does 45 damage - .3 AR
45ACP does 55 damage - .8 AR

Quite the opposite. There would be quite a small entry hole and a very large exit one. As for your other questions.

no, not unless you hit them in the head or upper spinal cord. If it hit them in the chest they would probably bleed out quite quickly however.

no it wouldn't. Not unless they were wearing like a lv 4 plate or something. It would punch straight through, but they would most likely stumble around for a few seconds until they fell over.
