Anyone know how to make a homemade silencer? Just curious.

Dunno. Probably could make one with a lathe.

you should ask the ATF's website, use the contact us page for info.

For scientific purpose.
>>
>>28384687
Well you make two tubes. One big and one small. Find a way to put them together and BAM, you got a suppressor. I figure that to cut the threads so it will screw on would best be done on a lathe.

Yep.

Get a bunch of washers and weld them into a chain. Bend them in a zigzag and feed them into a tube and cap off the front with a larger washer. This is basically how Russian suppressors were done for a while, but they've improved in the last 15 years.

I'm pretty sure this would blow up if you shot it, but it might be cool for taking pictures with and stuff

Probably won't do anything. Does it have actual baffles? If so then worse case you'll probably get a baffle strike and destroy it. Gun will be fine.

Me too but idk
>>

That is not true. Even Hickok45 did a video on them too, even with personal experience as well....After a few shots it will have its path carved out of the oil filter.

Old school soviet style supressor, using steel wool. Apparently it works better then baffles, but has a much much shorter service life. Can anyone confirm that for me?

Because spending $200 on a stamp for one of those turds is worse than lighting two bills on fire. Point of impact shift is horrible. To be legal, you need to send the adapter and filter into the manufacturer to have new "baffles" installed. This is the Lorcin of the suppressor world;
>>
there are websites that supply all the equipment to make a Form 1 suppressor, such as sdta

>>
>>28385061
It's only $25 for a new filter

but if you build your own, does that change things?
>>
>>28384958

7.62x39 I've used a few dif types, have had the same results. Last one I used was a stp filter.
>>
>>28385061
>I'm not sure what you are on about?
If you buy the "adapter" from a company like that, it needs to be on a form 4. You as the owner, cannot possess extra baffles for it, or replace the baffles. You have to send it in to the manufacturer if you are not an 07/02 FFL/SOT.
>>
>>28384635
>form 1
>or not
>mill out a can on a cnc mill/turn some k baffles on a cnc lathe
>hand thread 1/2x28 / 5/8x24 or thread for an off the shelf quick detach brake mount for a sacrificial baffle

alternatively

>3/8" SEAMLESS stainless tubing
>slide on 3/8" by 1" washer
>get at 90° and tack
>slide on 3/8" by 7/8" washers about one an inch
>roughly 1mm wiggle room
>tack on the washers
>open up the tube significantly
>slide on outer tube
>slide on 3/8" by 1" washer and tack
You should be able to hand thread one end of the tube and pick up an adapter. Fuck building it up to thread 1/2x28 or even worse 5/8x24, but at least the extra 2mm should avoid 556/22 baffle strikes even with fucked up concentricity.
>>
>>28385084
If you buy a "solvent trap adapter" and serialize it on a form 1, you are the manufacturer. You could then replace the "baffle stack" (filter) once you destroy the one in current use.
>>
>>28385126
Please go in more of the legality and intelligence of the solvent trap route.
>>
>>28385124
You just gave me a pretty good idea.

I wonder if you can buy replacement baffles anywhere?
>>
>>28385198
There isn't much more to cover. You can buy a solvent trap , engrave your name, city, state, file a form 1, and build it once your form is approved. You are then the manufacturer, and you can create new baffles once you destroy the previous ones. You cannot have spare baffles on hand. An oil filter would not be considered baffles until a hole through the center that allowed a projectile to pass was present.
>>
>>28385254
So that means just buy one, and do all that stupid engraving, then have a bunch of other on hand as spares, "but not really spares hehheh?"

Am I getting ya?
>>
>>28385032

He is still around, just dif trips.
>>
>>28385343
Pretty much. The hole is the big deal to the ATF. It's just an oil filter until you punch a hole in it.
>>
>>28385343
If you are going to form 1 on the cheap, at least use a maglite or seamless tube kit and freeze plugs for a little bit more.
>>
>>28384635
Still requires a tax stamp.

It works better than flat washers.

But whipes degrade and have a negative impact on accuracy.

I would take any modern baffle over a wipe

Useful on high pressure chamberings you may be suppressing or for short barrels where there will be a lot of unburnt powder expelled from the muzzle along with molten jacket acting as abrasives inside of the suppressor.

A common example is short barreled 5.56, you utilize a muzzle brake suppressor mount so the brake baffles takes the brunt of the erosion as opposed to the suppressor baffles themselves. The muzzle brake is easily replaceable, suppressor baffles are often not.
>>
>>28391466
Are you saying use a muzzle break and a silencer at the same time?

Yes, the suppressor threads onto the brake instead of the barrel directly.

Napa fuel filter 4003 or equivalent. Wix 24003 shown. Thread adapters sold separately.
>>
>>28394507
how well does this work? If you have access to a mill would it be better to just make one?
>>
>>28394562
If you knew how it probably would be safer. Though I think a lathe would work better than a mill.

>>28394507
Can you do that for .308?
>>
>>28394588
>Though I think a lathe would work better than a mill.
You couldn't do it with just a lathe i doubt but you would probably need one for some of it (have access to both)
>>
>>28394562
>>28394588
You have to make your own internals. The point is both ends are threaded and the filter element removable.
>>
>>28394691
Ah i see that makes more sense, just cuts down on the process a bit.
>>
>>28394588
Do not do it for .308.
Use a 51794 filter. Has enough volume and thick walls for a .308. I have a Wix filter
>>
So, can someone explain to a non-American how the NFA is not a clear infringement on the 2nd Amendment? Every time suppressor threads come up, there are like a hundred >le ATF maymay posts, so it sounds like people are resigned to the idea that the government is right to demand money from you just so you can have a suppressor.
>>
>>28394445
New Zealand?
>>
since this is a suppresor thread figured I would ask here.

Is there a good can that I can use on my 45 and also on my 5.56 and or 7.62x51?
>>
>>28384635
Do I know how?

Yes.
>>
>>28395155
You do know that suppressors are caliber specific right?
>>
>>28395251

yes and I also know that you can use larger caliber suppressors with smaller calibers and get basically just as good of supression as if you were to use a dedicated can of that caliber.

eg: 7.62 can on 5.56, .45 can on 9mm

I am wondering if there is any particular one that is recommended for my to use between them all.
>>
>>28394738
Simple. A suppressor isn't a weapon, even if the ATF considers it the same as a "firearm."

Even a hardline, "not one inch," "shall not be infringed" interpretation of the second amendment wouldn't find a screw-on tube to be a weapon whose access is to be preserved.

Do not take that as an opinion that suppressors need regulation; the NFA is a century-old farce on the level of the TSA and needs to be abolished. The ATF itself ought be entirely disbanded, as neither the A, T, F or E need regulation in an honest society, and the B always just gets in the way of everything.
>>
>>28393038
That's a UCIW system the entire purpose is to be shorter than normal.
>>
>>28395419
A 9mm can won't withstand 308, but you can do 300blk no problem. You can also find low-end 30cal cans that can't take high powered rounds, but will work with 30 carbine, tokarev, 300blk, and 762x39 all day.

Whatever you do don't share a good can with 22lr. 22lr is dirty as fuck, get a cheap dedicated can for you rimfire.

On the other hand, fuck Uncle Sam and his $200

our politicians are scared of suppressors. they think they make you invisible and unhearable.
>>
>>28395155
No.

You will want a user servicable can for the 45. But that isnt needed for a center fire rifle can.

You can get a 308 and use it on your 556. No problem.

And you can get a 45 and use it in a 9 and 40.
