What does /k/ think of replicas? I always wanted a Springfield 1903 and its hard not to find a used one that isn't trash. The Gibbs 1903 might be a good alternative. Or am I a big dumb stupid head for thinking about it?

You are dumb. There are tons of them that are not trash. A Gibbs model will only depreciate in value too

>What does /k/ think of replicas?
So long as they're shootable copies that stay true to the design, I'm all for them.

Find a Gibbs rifle that's selling for $1000.
What parts does Gibbs actually make themselves?
I was about to spend the money on a Gibbs until I visited my local surp store and found an 03A3 for $600 that looks like it was a wall hanger since 1943. Keep looking friendo.

I'm pretty sure you could get a beautiful original for that much scratch.

Find an old NRA sporter on Gunbroker for a couple hundred, then restore it yourself using repro and/or original parts. You'll save money and have more fun.

An original 1903a4 for $1200? The fuck are you smoking?
>>28381994
$350 for the sporter, another $250 for the stock, $400 for the optics and rings...
You're not saving a dime.
>>28382045
OP didn't say he wanted a scope.
>>28381994
You realize NRA Sporters were made that way right? "Restoring" one would be pretty bubba
>>28382050
The image implied he wants an a4. But if that's not the case, you're still not saving much, if any money.
>>28379048
Your better off buying an original 03a3 for $600-$900 unless the barrel is fucked in which you can talk down the price, trust me they are a fuck ton of fun to shoot and easy to take apart. Seriously for $1200 id get a garand or a ruger precission.
>>28381981
Yeah if the barrel is pitted to shit, scope broken, broken stock and missing a few pieces otherwise youre better of making a clone instead of buying a replica.
