Which modern service rifle is the best as a melee striking weapon? I assume AR variants would end up breaking after hitting someone a few times, or hitting another rifle
>>

Milled receiver AK
>>
>>28375378
If AK counts then G3 counts. I pick HK G3.

Or FAL.

FAMAS

>>28375372
nugget, of course
>>
>>28375372
depends on the AR variant, the M-16 and M-27 can take a beating, you could fuck someone up with one of those. The M4 buttstock does crack if you hit say, a wall, but hitting a person it would probably hold up. maybe not as well though.
>>
>>28375389
hk91 and g3 are heavy and the stock is hollow i dont know how well it would do.
>>
Remember Tom berengers movie sniper..... Don't use an svd as a club if you don't wanna lose your buttstock...
>>
AK with a wood stock would be pretty brutal.

G3s and FALs have plastic stocks ya noobs.

FNC

Its not hyper modern but I think an m14 to the face would suck

seems like an obvious answer

replace with type 56 if you want to get technical about modern

L85A2 has the best modern record.

>The British Army mounted bayonet charges during the Falklands War (see Battle of Mount Tumbledown), the Second Gulf War, and the war in Afghanistan.[40] In 2004 in Iraq at the Battle of Danny Boy, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders bayonet-charged mortar positions filled with over 100 Mahdi Army members. The ensuing hand-to-hand fighting resulted in an estimate of over 40 insurgents killed and 35 bodies collected (many floated down the river) and nine prisoners. Sergeant Brian Wood, of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, was awarded the Military Cross for his part in the battle.[41]

>British forces in Afghanistan have used bayonets many times. In 2009, Lieutenant James Adamson, aged 24, of the Royal Regiment of Scotland was awarded the Military Cross for a bayonet charge whilst on a tour of duty in Afghanistan: after shooting one Taliban fighter dead Adamson had run out of ammunition when another enemy appeared. He immediately charged the second Taliban fighter and bayoneted him.[42] In September 2012, Lance Corporal Sean Jones of The Princess of Wales's Regiment was awarded the Military Cross for his role in a bayonet charge which took place in October 2011.[43]

The UK is one of the few nations in the world to actively practice en masse hand to hand combat with the view to using it as a tactic in modern warfare.

They don't do any form of bayonet training any more. The L85 is shit for bayonetting. It is short and heavy, and the bayonet is shit too, offset and breaks easily. The only reason the British used bayonets so well is that the British can into bayonets pretty good. About the only thing they are good. The best rifle tonuse as a melee weapon is a long rifle with a long sturdy bayonet at the end. Mosin is pretty good desu.
>>
im gonna say any heavy barrel FAL, they,re basically a rail tie to begin with.
>>

>They don't do any form of bayonet training any more.
u wot m8? unless they canceled it within the past 6 months they still do it.
>>
>so terribly led and equipped that their troops still have to bayonet charge literally 110 years after the invention of the machine gun
>they believe this is something to be proud of

Sounds like the sort of people that would import sharia law
>>
>I assume AR variants would end up breaking after hitting someone a few times

you're fucking high, the rifle itself would be absolutely fine, perhaps the stock would break, but that would be it.

>>28376521
M27 is just an HK416, it has the same inherent flaw of the M4 in its stock

British army is led better and spends more on its infantryman than the US army.

Using professional solders to fight in close quarters is an excellent way to break conscripts and irregular troops.

You wouldn't find many people in the US forces that could pull it off however, very few career soldiers and mostly middle class kids wanting to get their higher education paid for.

Need I link one of the various videos of american soldiers crying while under mortar fire ?

Or maybe one of the videos of British soldiers having a laugh under their transports as shells land around them.

Most british army regiments have relegated bayonet training to "grab gun, scream, stab into dummy, rinse and repeat 5 times" for 30 minutes for one single never again repeated session, and that's it. You can hardly call that training, you don't come out of it any wiser as to how to use a bayonet, and they certainly don't "actively practice en masse hand to hand combat with the view to using it as a tactic in modern warfare." Sorry to burst your bubble.

The design makes it probable, but it makes so little sense. Explain?

He's trying to say that they have a reputation for effective bayonet charges because they're culturally, historically and intrinsically good at using bayonets, not because of what their rifle is or because of special training.

>>28379471
This. Served in the RE 6 years. Bayonet training is no longer being done at all, but when I got it 4 years ago it could barely be called training. Far cry from what was taught even 20 years ago.

How did they do it?

Reminds me of that video, where the guy recommends melee be done with a carbine in one hand and a short sword in the other
