What do you guys think of the Savage Hog Hunter?

Is the lack of removable mag a problem?
>>
I would much rather have a non-removable magazine that I could single load over a Ruger American rifle magazine.
Seriously, who the fuck at Ruger thought of that bullshit?
>>
I fondled one at Buds for weeks. It had a ridiculous price of like $329.00 or something and I wish I would have bought it. Seemed solid and for what it is intended, it would do the job quite well.

>is the lack of removable mag a problem?
Only if you set out to get a gun with a removable magazine. If so, you're gonna have a bad time.
>>
I wish my Axis was everything like the Hog Hunter.

>>

Not particularly for hunting you should always have a loaded mag and if you need to reload your game has most likely bolted.

Should I get this instead of dropping 400 dollars more for a Remington 700?
>>
>>28372365
Yes, Savage still cares about quality.
>>
>>28372365
No, spend the $400 more and get a better Savage rifle.

How does the Savage 11 FCNS in 308 compare to the Hog Hunter? I can get it for rougly the same price here, but I kind of miss the iron sights and the threaded muzzle, but the accustock of the 11 FCNS and the removable mag (you're required to unload the rifle before going over any major obstructions or climbing a raised blind while hunting in Germany) are a big plus in my eyes.

If they're actually strict about the unloading before climbing obstacles, then absolutely get the removable mag.

I got my Axis SR years before the Axis II ever came out. The trigger doesn't affect me, because I'm not a shitty shooter like most of the population that bitches about 5-6lbs

model 11 scout in .308
>>
The threaded muzzle, OP, is a big plus. My Axis is a .223, but seriously kicks less than the lightest kicking AR I've ever shot. Like in between a .22WMR and a .22LR. You remain exactly on target when looking through the scope at higher magnifications.

Iron sights would be sweet. Maybe just build an iron sight AR in the future. It's what I did to fuel my desire to learn how to shoot good with regular iron sights. Scopes can get boring when you're just hitting bullseyes all day

>model 11 scout in .308
Looks nice, but can it be fed without removing the mag?
>>
>>28373281

if its anything like my 10TR, then yes, you can top load it.

Jesus christ nigger how many times are you gonna post in a related thread with that picture?
>>
>>28372588
The stock is the biggest complaint people have about the high hunter but you can do a rather pricey magazine conversion. It's a matter of doing the math for your country but personally I would skip the hog hunter for the price
>>
>>28368106

My only gripe about the American is the fucking magazine.
>>
OP here.

I contacted a gun shop and they told me that the price of this rifle in my country is $890, since it has to be imported from the USA.

That's a bit too much for a rifle like this in my opinion.
>>
Look for a domestic clone?
>>
>>28374507
A lot. I'm excited.
>>
>>28377408
They go for 700-800€ in Germany, but I don't think importing from here would be cheaper
>>
>>28368083
Just get a PU Sniper nugget without the scope. They go for $400, shoot far cheaper ammo, are more accurate than stock sporting rifles (note: a PU sniper, not a normal Mosin), and are more durable. If you're hunting hogs the PU scope would be nice anyways because you can use irons once they get close, and mount a bayonet (which hog hunters tell me is a huge advantage for this purpose).

>inb4 meme gun

No, it's a legit suggestion.
>>
>>28377780
That's an interesting suggestion, but I see two problems:
1. No real hunting ammo available, my short search found only surplus and modern made FMJ, but no expanding ones
2. You have to test the rifle for shooting quality, no (theoretical) out of the box assurance that the rifle will work and shoot well like with modern ones
>>
>>28372430
>not enjoying one of the best midrange rifle cartridges on earth
Truly, you have never lived.
>>
>>28377847
Good point. You could get PPU soft nose online. It's getting hard to find though. And the quality issue is also important. I'd say you're fine with a Hog Hunter though.
>>
>>28377847
there is plenty of hunting ammo available
surely not as much as .270 or .308 or other modern calibers, but enough for most game

bear and wolf make ~200gr SP
PPU and S&B and some others make other hunting ammo
Lapua makes top tier ammo

I love my hog hunter. The medium contour short-ish barrel makes it nice and stiff for long range shooting. The lack of removable magazine isn't much of a problem so far.

A+, highly recommended.
