Ruger mini 14. Would like some oppinions on the mini 14 and pictures. I am considering buying one.
I have a 10/22, I love the gun but I hated the stock on it, anyone got any good aftermarket stocks for the mini 14?

>inb4 get an ak or ar, I live in europe.
>>
>>28366229
I already have a shopping list for what I will buy once I get my gun permits and Ruger mini 14 is one of them. Along side an AK and an AR..

And I'm also an europoor.

Get the newer 580 series of Mini's, the old ones were susceptible to overheating and accuracy problems.

As for aftermarket stocks, this is the only stock the Mini-14 needs
>>
>>28366251
Good thing it just looks like a piece of shit and not a scary ass halt weapon.
>>
>>28366249
nice, what country you in?
>>
>>28366253
It's a decent stock, i've shot a Mini with one and it wasn't half bad.

They're mostly collector items because Ruger stopped making them in 1989. They go for about $600 in the U.S., but worth every penny in my opinion.
>>
I'm assuming you want a tacticool stock, so this limits to options to an ATI Strikeforce, Archangel Precision, Sage EBR, or Tapco (ominous dominous). Or you can get a factory underfolding stock and go full A-Team.
>>
>>28366251
Folding stocks are a definite no no where I live. Rifles need to be at least 840mm or 33.08'' long.

I believe Feather Industries continued production, but they had to stop in 1994 because of the federal AWB.

Finland. To get permits for those you have to join one of the army reservist organizations or our version of national guard. I'm just about through with the first part of the paperwork and now I need to start trying to find my self sponsors who can testify that I'm not a psycho spreekiller in waiting or a criminal.

In what country you can legally get a Mini-14 but not an AK or AR ?
I'm in Europe too, and I can get them, full auto if I want

Norway. It is possible through beeing an active shooter in IPSC for two years, might do that one day but first we would have to start a club. Also aks are barnned because it looks spoopy

False! All that is requiered to get a min14/min30/Vepr/FNAR is a hunting permit.
You can also acquire a a valmet petra kalashnikov with a hunting permit. Pimp it up into a ghetto blaser if you want, the police don't care.

ARs require two years of active membership in a IPSC, though.
>>
I love my mini 14.
It's not as versatile as my AR, but it's got character.
>>

Planning on getting a mini 14 through beeing a hunter and using it for hunting, I was referring to getting an AR. Sorry if that was not clear.

I will pimp it. Pimp the fuck out of it

Sold mine to buy a truck.
Stainless walnut Ranch with flip up sight. Bought new in '99, sold in 2012.
I have since built an AR for my 223 funs.
Mini was cool, good rifle. But after a mag or two the barrel got hot and accuracy kinda sucked.
It was good enough though.

I bought an M1A at the same time, so the mini was just a fun cheap 223.
Wish I would have got the Mini 30 though.
I believe they made in in 44mag too, or some shit.

Build an AR, they are more impressive.

I bought mine for $300 from a fudd who wanted a new durr rifle. Came with the goofy barrel shroud and HnK front sight and three mags. They are great $300 guns, but I've always thought the MSRP on them was a little high for what they are.

If you look around you can find them used for relatively cheap, I see them in the $400-450 range every once in awhile.

I wouldn't plaster this rifle with all the useless tacticool bullshit. Its fine the way it is, just a handy .223 carbine with classic style.

I really lucked out on mine, I personally think the tigerstripe stock looks amazing.
>>
>>28368264
Agreed, the mini is best left with wood and not tacticool as shit. Just looks ways more classy.

I'd really like to take off the barrel shroud from this one, but I feel like then the front sight post/flash hider combo would stick out like a sore thumb. So I thought about buying a new front sight post, but then there goes the whole "I only have 300$ in this gun"

So I figure Ill leave as is. Not really hurting anything, just looks... goofy.

Anyways, mine eats anything you can feed it. Mine is also an old 181 series, which means it has a thin barrel that suffers from heat. After about ten rounds it will start stringing rounds high at 100 meters.

But hey, it isn't my go to war rifle. I keep it behind my office door, one of the many guns I have scattered around my house.

Final though: I'd say buy one used if you can get a good deal on it. Wouldn't buy at the $700 or so MSRP.
>>
They're fine guns. I own one.
>>
>>28368291
I like your setup there. Like a little baby m14. I think the synthetic stocks can actually look good on these as well. This is a good example.
>>
im interested in these because living in a ban state, now are the new 580 series much better than the older 180?
>>
>>28368647
The newer ones will hold their accuracy better as the gun heats up. This is really the only functional difference (aside from accessory compatibility). They're all great guns though.

I wish Ruger would sell a more reliable and heavy barrel tactical version.

Insurgency is making me want to have semi-auto clone of the select fire version.
>>
>>28368245
AKs are banned in Canada because they're the bad guy guns and that makes them way more deadlier somehow.. Gun bans based on looks alone aren't really that rare in the world and not even in the US.
>>
Mini owner here.

Two things you need to know: first, buy a new Mini. Old ones might be pre-07, and it's after 2007 when they upgraded the barrel assembly to reduce heat warping issues. I can't tell the difference between an old and new mini without taking a close look at the action, so I wouldn't trust buying some fudd's old mini he threw in a closet ten years ago.

Second, the trigger assembly is held in place by a small clip that's notched behind a little nub. A lot of minis have that clip bent a little too loosely, meaning if you shoot while exerting downward pressure on the trigger group, the whole thing will just come falling out as if you're disassembling it. Bend it into place firmly or take it to a gunsmith to do the same - it makes disassembly harder, but having the trigger group fall out while firing is probably not acceptable to most people.

Other than that, have fun, it's a great little rifle.

Good rifle OP, get one. You oughta get a flash suppressor too, that's the next thing I'm getting for mine.

Generally, the Mini's are known to only like brass rounds, so unless you're planning on buying expensive brass 7.62x39 rounds (not tula GT, wolf, etc which are all steel cased), don't plan on it.
>>
>>28368803

Since we're on the subject of the Mini 14 my dad is going to give me a few of his guns including a newer production Mini 14. The other guns are his old deer rifle and shotgun, but the 14 has no real sentimental value and I'm thinking of selling it and putting the money towards finishing my AR15. My reasoning is that I'm going to finish the AR sooner or later and at that point the Mini 14 will be kind of redundant, and I'm not really in a place financially where I can justify having redundant guns.

WW/k/D?
>>
How much are these rifles? Do they still use proprietary mags that cost a ton?

Reliability has never been much of am issue and the heavy barrel models are target gun. You can however put any number or barrel brace on it, get and aftermarket barrel or SBR one which cuts down of barrel whip. Fun as fuck either way

Only problem mine had was the rear sight was accurate but it was poor quality and it ejected brass with enough force to chip my scope
