Havent seen a safe thread in a while
Best/Worst Safes? Every libertysafe review ive seen is positive
>>
>>28358586
Liberty is the best budget-minded safe series you can get. Avoid anything not in the US/Europe.

Do you have a specific budget or capacity need in mind?
>>
>>28358586
>Old Liberty Safe = bretty good
>New Liberty Safe = Stack-on tier garbage

That being said, the lowest level safe I'd feel comfortable putting valuable guns in would be an AMSEC or Sturdy. Ideally, one day I'd like to get a legit safe (not a gun safe), something large with a TRTL 60x6 rating for all of my really expensive guns + NFA items, but I don't have a place to put one.
>>
>>28358626
You're talking out of your ass. You get what you pay for with safes, but there is nothing about current production Liberty's that brands them as "Stack-On Garbage."
>>
saw a zanotti armor midsize model sell for 600$ at auction a week or two ago. I would have bought it but couldnt pick it up
>>
>>28358607
Ive only got 6 rifles right now but do plan on expanding, i mainly want one for fire protection since I live in a low-crime town
>>
>>28358655
Get a Sentry if you're worried mainly about fire. You can add on additional minutes with some insulation layers applied to the outside of the safe yourself.
>>
>>28358626
I'm slowly saving up for a sturdy safe. The videos of them fucking with their safes pretty much got me sold.

No safe is unbreakable, some maybe nuclear weapon proof, or fire resistant, but all can be broken with the right equipment, knowledge & time.
>>
>>28358680
They're fine man, that guy is just spouting shit because he probably spent money on some shit Chinasafe.
>>
>>28358645
Their quality has dropped substantially in recent years. Stock-On Garbage might be an exaggeration, but it's my way of pointing out that they are now riding off their brand name and selling cheaper quality safes at the same price as the quality safes they used to make.

Their high-end offerings are still good, but I guarantee you every Liberty Safe you see at Dick's or Gander Mountain is absolute garbage.
>>
>>28358680
Yeah, their videos are pretty awesome and sold me on them too.

>>28358694
Learn to reading comprehension, dudebro. I said that Sturdy safes are good to go and great for the price point. AMSEC are also good for the price point.
>>
>>28358700
Give me some evidence of this. Did they suddenly start using a cheaper, inferior alloy for their steel? Did they start make all of their hardplates out of porcelain?
>>
>>28358689
I was agreeing with you, dipshit
>>
>>28358712
All of their budget safes are made in China and have much poorer build qualities compared to their premium safes which you won't find outside of a specialty store.

There's plenty of topic on safe forums discussing this. The rule of thumb is that any safe worth its salt will run you at least $2500. I'm not saying that all Liberty safes are bad, only that the mass-produced Chinese models that they sell don't hold a candle to their US made premium models.
>>
>>28358805
Get a US made one at all costs like I said before, they exist in the sub $1000 range.
>>
>>28358842
>sub $1000 range
>for safe
You've bought a glorified gun cabinet for that price. A minute or two with an angle grinder and your guns are as good as gone.
>>
>>28358689
You dont say.
>>
>>28358857
Ten minutes with an angle grinder is a lot more resources and effort of the thief than one with a prybar. A smash and grab can be deterred by a Stack-On properly hidden, but a sub $1000 will deter the crowbar-wielding asshole. Not the pros.
>>
Which locks are best? Electronic, combination or key?
>>
>>28358971
I prefer electronic, just based on ease of use, but many (especially the cheaper ones) have default codes, which would make them quite easy to break for a pro or anyone that can remove the battery to reset the code
>>
>>28358865
>>28358726
Just pointing out the obvious faggots

Safes are just deterents for kids and casual thieves, and may help protect against a small fire.
>>
>>28359038
It doesn't matter what name is on the front imo

A drill, grinder, prybar & sawzaw will likely be all you need

My safe.

Pros:
>recessed door
>strong hinges
>looks nicer than it is inside and out
>holds 10 long guns plus however many pistols you can fit on the little shelf.
>$200

Cons:
>Not fire rated.
>>
>>28359090
con
>openable within 3 minutes with a crowbar
>>
>>28359038
>>28359066
If you are talking safes less than a $1000, a saws-all to the top corner will get you in a jiffy.

The thickness of the door/walls is mostly do to insulation for fires and not steel thickness.

Swing the door of your safe to see how heavy it is, this is the best "rule of thumb" for judging the quickly judging the quality of safes at the local safe store.
>>
>>28359108
It has a recessed door, is framed in a wall, recessed, and bolted to the slab floor with slag bolts.
You might could get into it with a hack saw in 5 minutes but not a prybar in 3.
Besides, like >>28359038 >>28359066 implied, any of can be gotten into by anyone that has the house to themselves and know what they're doing.

That is unless you've got a safe costing a few thousand dollars or more, in which case nothing changes except it will take them a little longer.
>>
>>28358842
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LgKThatkjM

Here's a video on "bargain" safes. The "bad" safe on the right with the fuckhuge door gap and shitty composite door and shitty sheet metal construction is a Liberty Fatboy, a $1500 safe.

Now you know how Liberty is riding off of their good name and shipping an inferior product.
>>
>>28359119
Looking at getting a relatively inexpensive safe. I have 6 rifles and a pistol, and really just want something to deter the dindus that may break into an unoccupied apartment. Fire resistance would be a plus as well. I'd prefer to keep it under $800, but I'm not sure how to judge my options.
>>
>>28359154
Actually, I got that wrong. That safe starts at $1700 without options.

No safe under $2500 is worth its salt and is basically a glorified gun cabinet. You'd be better off hiding your guns and saving up for a quality safe unless you absolutely had to have them locked up (by law or if you had kids or something).

Who /129$cabinet/ here?
>>
>>28359149
Pretty much every safe these days has a recessed door. Being framed in a wall and bolted to the floor does not really help against a prybar /crowbar.

But you are right that you would need like a 5k safe for it to matter much
>>
>>28359154
Well shit, looks like I'm saving up then
>>

>>
>>28358689

>>
>>28359208

mein neger

only to keep the kids out, really.

anything else is a huge waste of money desu baka senpai
>>
>>28359158

I would just buy a cheap, non gun locker safe, in the $300-600 range, because you need to spend 10times that to get way better protection.

>>28359256
While your saving, they have no protection whatsoever
>>
>>28359158
real safes cost a lot of money and are heavy as fuck. like 6-700lbs

I looked at real safes but my apt wont hold the weight of a real, full safe and me standing next to it.
>>
Best safe = move somewhere with a low black/hispanic population.
>>
>>28359521
Best safe = nuke humanity
>>
>>28359530

True, but I was going with realistic options.
>>
>>28359521
If enough people did that, then the dindus and hispanics would follow
>>
>>28358712
You can tell from the shelving that the quality is appalling, I haven't seen one in a gander shitmountain where half the shelves aren't broken.

>>
>>28361080
Pretty damn informative video, thanks mate
>>
how the hell do you get these things in your house and into position?

They're heavy as fuck. Just pay movers?
>>
>>28359208

I got mine for 60 and its the 10 gun stackon. has some of the cheap paint missing on a corner but hidden where it is I have no worries. That and the key is hidden near it. If you know where to look you'll have the key to the safe pretty quickly.
>>
Any safe can be defeated, especially if it can be tipped. Bolt to the floor and have the opening size of the door up against a wall, preferably cinder block or poured concrete.

For 1500 dollars, properly installed, you can easily get a safe rated to 30 minutes of active intrusion.

When you have a safe it must be paired with an alarm system. You have to limit the amount of available time.
>>
>>28359090
>>28359149
>exposed hinges
>>
>>28358586
just get something fire rated
unless you're actually rich and have real shit to still (in which case you should already fucking have some kraut/swiss space magic 5 hour safe)
>>
>>28359090
ive got one of these but a little bigger
pros>bolts on all four sides of the door, heat activated door seal, inexpensive
cons>electronic lock, lower quality interior, 12ga metal, cheap
>>
>>28362806
exposed hinges allows for a wider opening door
>>
>>28361707
Naw. Just some dude who likes guns and posts shitty pictures on /k/.

So what is the ideal safe if you had the money?

I keep hearing about Pendelton safes.

You sound like the kind of faggot that says tanks/planes/ships/etc are useless because there is something designed to defeat them.
>>

a little girl could pop that cheap shit open with a crowbar.
>>
>>28358971
I have electronic, Gardner Bender i believe. So far so good.

I have heard a couple internet nightmares about malfunctions on elocks.

If i did it again, I would go straight combo.

Also, get a safe bigger than you think you'll ever need.

For $600, it's constructed pretty god damned nicely.
>almost as good as browning
>>
>>28358586
White man here.
I'm going to buy a safe with a good locking mechanism, double layer 5/8 sheetrock installed per fire corridor specs, and encase that in two 1/4 inch layers of armor plate, welded with staggered fillets on the corners.
Then install custom internal hinges of my own design.
>>
I bought a plain $500 safe. Not that great at fire protection, but all I care about are the kids and meth heads getting to it.

Someone with a gun is always at my house and no pro thief would bother targeting my house

I will probably get a ~$5k safe at some point down the line

Almost every dumb fucker who has replied in this thread has no idea what the fuck they're talking about.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LgKThatkjM

That is most of what you need to know. Completely unbiased. Good luck with your selection. And don't skimp out and buy some cheap ass knockoff pretending to be a safe. Instead, just save longer until you can afford a real safe.
