125gr .300 BLK has less energy at the muzzle than 62 gr 5.56x45 does but not by great amounts
To my knowledge, most subsonic .300 BLK rounds perform about as well as .45 ACP does at the muzzle, at 100 yards. It's not supposed to be a great penetrator if it's subsonic. That's like complaining about how subsonic .233 loads work about as well as .22 magnum

6.8spcII is still around, mostly kept alive by hunters. Hell they carry it at the local academy sports here. It's a good little round in its own right but it's pricier overall for the rifles and mags so .300 kinda pushed it out. Don't hear much a out 7.62x40WT either and nobody on /k/ has use for a 6.5
Someone should load up a .300 with some pulled black tip 30-06 AP rounds and compare.
