Real female operator in Mexico.
>>

she's not really portrayed as a tough girl at all.
she gets repeatedly fucked in every situation.

A lesser movie would have had her somehow kick the ass of the crooked cop who has 100lbs over her, but this one didn't.

She's not even the main focal point. She's a side character at best. Go be an autist somewhere else.

>>
>>28349098
spot on /k/amerade

I think the movie did an excellent job of showing what it's like to work with CIA. I'm glad they didn't make the CIA spook a total asshole who risked her life or forced her to be in danger or some other contrived BS.

He just had a specific objective, was restricted by specific red tape, and worked within those limitations to get the job done.

I will say her character was a bit stupid for someone with her credentials. That whole scene where he says "don't go in the bank" . . . I mean she should have been smart enough to understand. I fucking knew why he said that and I am about as much of an operator as . . . something not operator. The cowboy rapist could have been a good twist if it hadn't been shot so ominously as to make it obvious he wasn't just a stress relief dick she was picking up.

>>
>>28349188
She's such a naive and by-the-books wanker that her sense of procedural justice blocks her from seeing the obvious. Which is likely precisely why she was chosen to be the FBI handler for the operation, because she remained utterly clueless to the very end until the actual fucking team leader laid it all out for her after literally laying her out in turn.

Why did she pull her gun on Alejandro during the tunnel operation. What did she see to react that way? she entered the warehouse not knowing why Alejandro was grabbing the dirty cop.

>>

>Which is likely precisely why she was chosen to be the FBI handler for the operation
100% agreed, and only further enhances the credibility of the writing. I love that they don't lay out how she's being played both by CIA and and her own boss. That scene where they talk about her dindu partner, and explain that he has combat experience (I think they said ranger aka SOF aka far more qualified than her) AND a law degree, and then the spook is like "nah get the chick". Very subtle move on the writer/director part. They knew the black guy would either figure it out or be a huge pain in the ass (reinforced by the bus stop interrogation shitfit scene) so they wanted him as uninvolved as possible.

>>28349277
fair enough, I think they left a lot of details about her experience out. It's interesting that there's a scene specifically devoted to mentioning her being divorced and childless.
I just think the grand joke of the movie is that the main character is actually kind of stupid. They don't write her lines to be stupid, or have her do obviously stupid things (already ducking inevitable hostile incoming on that), but within context of other characters and circumstance you can infer that she's rather naive, limited by her "by the book" mentality, and the perfect puppet for the CIA to string along.

She's like the anti Superman. Or someone with Superman's black and white moral view, being dropped into the shitty grey world of murderers murdering murderers, but without the super power to hold everyone accountable.
>>
>>28349359
>she entered the warehouse not knowing why Alejandro was grabbing the dirty cop

She didn't know the cop was dirty. She couldn't know. She suspected Alejandro was Medellin, and came out to see what she thought was a killer unleashed on an unsuspecting cop, by the CIA. She didn't see the cop working with the drug runner, who was already dead. From her perspective it was probably a cop (aka one of her own, brother in blue, blah blah) investigating the shooting in the tunnel and being held up by spooky motherfucking grim reaper incarnate. At that point in the film she is already turned against her countrymen, convinced the CIA handler is the real bad guy. I mean FFS she has a bunch of dialogue post-tunnel where she captain america's about "telling everyone" and a bunch of other salty bullshit.

Can we just have a circlejerk over how based Alejandro and Matt were?

bruh that's like the perfect description of this movie. you should do movie reviews.
>>
>>28349426
No but its basically common knowledge that some cops are dirty down there. and finding him without a partner, with his car in the middle of the warehouse stuffed with illegal stuff pretty much gives her the info she needs to see what was happening. At least it would give Alejandro some slack in that particular instance since his actions right there could be justified regardless if he was the Meddelin. its just not a clue or proof that should make her pull a gun on him.
>>
>>28349426
Did you forget she already shot a Mexican cop in the head? She knew the cop at the tunnel entrance was dirty. They even told her cops usually run drugs from the tunnels for the cartels. Maybe guilt, maybe just trying to do the right thing, but she wanted to stop him because she knew he was going to kill that cop (that surrendered) eventually

As has been said, she was an idealistic bitch and her entire world of morality just had a heaping shit dumped on it by Mr. SAD Man and Co.. She knew she was utterly helpless and being played like an entire string orchestra by that point, and in her desperate flailing for preserving her idea of justice and getting answers, she decided it would maybe be a good idea to draw a bead on the shady latino fucker that she'd been leery of from the very beginning. I think the cop being present was irrelevant to her, she was just trying to maintain some form of control over her situation. And, true to form, she hilariously fails in her attempt.
>>
>>28349604
Alejandro didn't kill the cop or try to in that scene.
When she walked in the cop was unarmed and being held hostage. Pretty suspicious behavior.

If she really thought the cop was dirty, she would have wanted to book him instead of you know, using him then shooting him in the back.

>in some scenes it was an MP5sd and in others it was a suppressed MP5 with rails
I don't get how this can happen in the first place

I know that the guy responsible for the prop firearms takes them away from the actors in between scenes
they don't just hang on to their guns and strut around the set with it
but shouldn't the armorer be aware what gun he's giving to which actor in a consecutive shooting?
>>
>>28351189
I didn't watch it but it sounds like the other anon is saying the mp5sd wasn't operable, and was swapped with a suppressed railed mp5 when he was actually shooting.
>>
>>28351189
It was likely intentional, they just hope no one would notice. I may be misremembering, but IIRC the SD only shows up in scenes where the gun isn't fired. The MP5SD was possibly airshit or some kind of nongun and the railed MP5 was the closest firing approximation to an MP5SD that the contracted film armory had access to.

>She's like the anti Superman. Or someone with Superman's black and white moral view, being dropped into the shitty grey world of murderers murdering murderers, but without the super power to hold everyone accountable.

This sentence is the single best discussion about a film that I have seen in months and on this film in particular.

Why? I frequent /tv/ - Star Wars and Memes as my main board.

Which is why her character was well written. In a perfect world you'd do everything by the books and everyone would go on their merry law abiding way. She learns just how far we are from that perfect ideal world throughout the movie.
