I don't know about Maine, but here in Florida it's illegal/unconstitutional for a rental contract to disallow ownership/storage of firearms in a residential property.

I used to keep mine in my van, probably about five years with it under my ass.
It did save me from being carjacked on an Indian reservation. I was getting gas at night and saw the guy standing by the fence. He waited for me to fill and started walking over, taking a folding knife from his hoodie pocket on the way. I reached under my seat and pulled the Nagant, shoved it in his face, and told him to run.
I sort of regret not pulling the trigger, but it wasn't cocked and I didn't feel that lucky. He fled, no shots fired.
