>is walther p38 a good gun?
It's okay.
>Rare
No, especially if you count the P-1
>Expensive
Not really, especially if you count Russian Captures and, again, the P-1
>Where get
Lots of places have P-38s/P-1s, and Gunbroker is flooded with the things.

>knows issues
It's big for the mag size, and accuracy isn't anything to write home about.
>What bullets
9x19, it's not a picky eater by any means.

byf44 owner here.
I really wouldn't recommend one as a shooter. It's extremely picky with ammo, the sights suck and the trigger is not good either.
That said, its a really cool looking gun with some history behind it. They look small, but they are pretty big handguns for only being 8 rounds of 9mm.
They aren't really rare, but if you buy an actual p38 and not a p1 then they are going to be a bit harder to find. One in good condition can go anywhere from $500 to $1000. Most gun stores that have used guns will have a P-38 or two.

Its the successor to the luger which 9mm luger was made for
>>
>>28347195
would this be a good gun for cc for reasons other than badass effect?
>>
>>28347228
No.
>>
>>28347228
Fuck no. Its big, got lots of sharp bits, limited mag capacity, its heavy and its covered in swasticas and stick eagles.
>>
>>28347244
>covered in swastika and stick eagles
oo i b wanting that, plus it could probably be effectively used as a club when u run out of ammo
>>
>>28347244
what about the p08

Also no.

>>28347333
No, and the C96 is also a poor choice.

There. We are done.
>>
>>28347163
Yes. In fact, the 9mm the Germans used was loaded pretty damn hot. 9mm NATO was the result of looking at the German 9mm loads, and deciding to tone it down a bit.

Point is, the P38, and any WWII era German 9mm weapons, can eat most any modern 9mm it can feed

Any extended mags for the P38? I'm just wondering as I love how 1911s look with extended magazines, so I'm curious about how a P38 would look. Though with a heel mag release I doubt extended mags would work.

It's big and bulky so I wouldn't recommend it for CCing. Not very accurate either. Fun to shoot though.

You could've answered all of your questions with trips to gunbroker and Wikipedia you lazy fag.
>>
>>28346906
They are fun ass range toys with a ton of history. You need to ask yourself if that is enough to justify the price.

The P.38 is modestly accurate. It has large and clear sights and is a substantial improvement to the P.08 before it. The postwar P.1 improves the sights further with a wider notch and front sight blade. P.1 sights are three dot, but that's never been a selling point for me.

The only photo I could find of a target shot with my P.38. This was at 25 yards - it was hitting a bit above the point of aim, took two shots to find the right hold - just below the 9 ring.
