However, the suicide rate of military men vs that of civilian males are still higher.
ULTIMATELY, the actual numbers are still too low to even matter. The military does tend to bring in people with no vision of a future (eg. kids that just left high school, college graduates with an uncertain future, etc.)

My grandfather was a crew chief during Vietnam. He wouldn't let any aircraft go up he wasn't 100% sure about. The pilots hated him but not one of his aircraft ever failed due to maintenance error, he was apparently pretty damn good at his job and kept the place running smoothly. I forget exactly what he was but he was basically in charge of keeping the whole air fleet operational at the base he was at near the end of his service life.
He worked almost exclusively on F-4s.
