Pistolfag here, looking at getting a defense rifle. Whats a good one for people most experienced with 1911s and glocks?

This?
>>
>>28341974
if you want a home defense gun you already won out on that

handguns allow you to do more than rifles or shotguns in a home defense scenario. you can keep a flashlight in one hand, move your kids, open/close doors, the list goes on. plus theres a lesser risk of having your gun taken from you if you peek a corner considering theres not much to grab
of course there are also downsides to this such as ammo capacity and the like, but to me the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to this
>>
>>28341974
Do you mean home defense? Within 100m? 200?

You may be looking for something like a pistol caliber carbine. The Kel Tec Sub 2000 is pretty good.
>>
>>28341992
you know rifles are long range weapons, right?

unless your idea of defense is taking out possible attackers a quarter mile up the road, or you live in a warzone, rifles have and always will be offensive weapons.
>>
>>28342015

I don't think he said "overpriced shit rifle"
>>
>>28342042
HD, I was interested in an ak/ar for the capacity and superior balistics. Maybe if the hearing protection act goes through Ill get suppressors for it and my handguns
>>
>>28342064
Fuck you, DD rifles are fine.
>>

I... when did /k/ go full retard?

Rifles and semi-auto shotguns are best for HD

>Incapacitate faster so you get shot less
>Easier to fire accurately under stress
>Better light and sight options

Seriously, never use a pistol for HD if you have a shotgun or rifle
>>
>>28342066
like the other anons stated already, rifles are not ideal for HD. longuns in general are not good for HD.
>>
>>28342083
do some research. use some common sense.
>>
>>28342066
Unless you have a outbuildings or such you are worried about, I wouldn't recommend an AR or AK for strictly home defense. Light and noise are pretty high, penetration can be excessive, and they arguably less capable than a tactical shotgun.

That said, if you want something that is also fun at the range and can be used hunting, the AR and AK have merit.
>>
PS90
>>
>>28342113
I have an outbuilding to worry about as well as remote location and large quantities of gangfags to worry about (gotta love rez life. Saving up to gtfo). Plus the household already has a shotgun. However I would really like a shotfun aswell
>>
>>28342105
What? What the fuck are you even trying to say? Are you handicapped? Because that was an empty post with no real subject or direction.
>>
>>28342149
Upper plains rez? I am from RST originally, but gtfo a while ago.

Get an AR and a good light. I recommended the Sub 2000 above, but fuck that. 62gr hollow points always worked for me.

its noice
>>
>>28342181
Ah, fair enough. I got the joy of being white on the rez. It was always a need to have a rapid fire carbine around that could shoot across the place. Mini 14s were pretty common, but most people run ARs now due to cost.

You quoted me, but you didn't reply to any point I made. So I ask again

For Christ's sake, all the fucking arguing in this fucking thread. That's fucking it, I'm getting a home defense rifle. And guess what? I'm getting an m&p 15, because they are cheap and do it all for a better price. Now I piss off both groups of faggots inthis fucking thread, and nobody can do anything about it.
>>
>>28342204
I can see it, I assume the m1a platform isnt the best idea?
>>
>>28342105
Have you ever trained with a rifle vs a pistol in a house?
I prefer the rifle.
Once you get used to sighting and shooting, the rifle is a superior option.
>>
>>28342226
>>28342196
>M&P
>Daniel Defense

You get the besttt of both worldsss
>>
>>28342218
i didn't give a bullet point response to every dumbfuck item in your dumbfuck justification for getting a long gun for HD because it has already been said ITT.

and, if you bothered to do any amount of research you would realize that this is the general consensus in the firearm community and training circles, etc for a long time.

but noooo. you have to drag it out, and have /k/ spoonfeed you to bump your self gratifying, useless thread where you get to tall us all about yourself and give out bad information like you know wtf you are talking about.
>>
>>28342232
Too bulky and expensive unless you really need the range. The 16" and 18" wouldn't be too bad. ARs became a thing on the rez up here when they hit $500 for a shitty Windham or Anderson. The lower ammo cost helped too.
>>
>>28342269
I can't explain why but the m14 juggernaut furniture makes me hnng even though I hate it. Whats wrong with me? Also the external building is a good distance away

It might be viable, but would be really awkward indoors. The pressure and light of an intermediate cartridge is bad enough, and full rifle cartridges are even worse.
>>
>>28342263
So what you're saying is, you're wrong and can't make a counter point to my reasons for using a semi-auto shotgun or rifle over a pistol?

And general concensous is pistols suck ass use a 12ga
>>
>>28342321
So it would be advisable to get a golf club for each shot instead of taking the driver putting, In lamens terms
>>
>>28342397
Pretty much. If you have a shotgun, you are probably fine indoors. I like the look of the M1As, but FALs always drew me closer to that rack at the fun store.

Keep in mind, even an AR in .223 isn't completely useless at 350-400 meters.
>>
So for time being (until I cam afford a better option) whats the best HD ammo for 9, 40, or 45?
>>
>>28342432
>like the look of the M1As, but FALs always drew me closer to that rack at the fun store.
using a battle rifle in-doors for home defense

full fucking retard
>>
>>28341974
Kalashnikov is best rifle.
>>
>>28342458
9x19, you're going to be shooting that fucker way more than 10 times.
>>
>>28342458
You might be better asking in a pistol thread. I honestly don't know what's on the market anymore. Last time I checked, Hydro Shocks were all the rage. I usually used PMC hollow points or FMJs with holes drilled in them.
>>
>>28342489
>Hydra Shocks
>I usually used PMC hollow points
>or FMJs with holes drilled in them.

You're fucking joking right? Those are the worst choices you could possibly make.
>>
>>28342263
Dude just stop, you're embarrassing yourself.
>>
>>28342504
Like I said, it has been a while since I have done much with pistols and they are never my go to firearm for home defense, not because of their utility or function, but because of my lack of skill and general disdain for shooting them.
>>
>>28342525
Fair enough. What do you CC when out and about though?

Oh, and regardless of caliber, the answer is "HST" hollow points.
>>
>>28342579
I don't. I used to carry a vz. 52 handloaded with 90 grain HPs over a hot load of Red Dot that I don't remember. After that, I kept a Nagant revolver under my car seat, which probably saved me being carjacked.

I gave my only modern handgun, a SAR B6P, away.

I went with a PSA flat top kit, FN "machine gun" steel, nickel boron bolt, Magpul Defender furniture, PSA lower parts kit with polished nickle trigger on top of a Spike's Crusader lower.
$580 for the kit, $135 total for the lower. But PSA sells blemished lowers for $50. My gf picked one up for her build with the giftcard I gave her for Christmas.

I also picked up a Geissele SSA-Enhanced trigger group at $240 for me, and I'm giving her the PSA kit parts.

With the kit I bought you would have a nice AR for about $680, minus a rear sight. Nice Magpul with six range presets is around $120. But I want an ACOG.
