what's all this velcro faggotry in gear and shit?
why is so much military and military style gear velcro based?
what happened to good old straps, buckles and laces?
velcro is for little kids who piss their pants and don't know how to tie their shoes.

(also it's weak, unreliable and deteriorates over time)
>>
unless you have plans on weaponizing velcro i cant see why this should be on /k/

Straps, buckles, and laces are weak and unreliable. Velcro is the future.

ease of use and no need for sewing. but you are right the garment becomes useless once the velcro blows out and for some reason the military decided to use the shittiest of velcro to use

Welcome to /k/, 4chan's weapons board. Our board centers around weapons, armor, and other myriad military technology. While guns are the primary topic, threads involving any other sort of weapons, from swords and knives to tanks and jet fighters, come up frequently as well. If you're new, we suggest reading the sticky at http://amagicalplace.wikia.com/wiki/Sticky to get acquainted with the board's subject matter.
>myriad military technology
Military uniform is military technology, besides there are plenty of camouflage, gear and uniform threads. How new are you?
>>
>also it's weak, unreliable and deteriorates over time
Weak compared to what? Stitching? It's not for carrying load, it's for temporarily attaching things to each other

>unreliable
How? I have literally never had velcro fail me, ever. There's velcro in the cummerbunds of every issued plate carrier in the US military, do you actually think if it was unreliable we would use it?

>deteroriates over time
Absolutely wrong. The oldest real examples we have of velcro are from M65 Field Jackets from the sixties and seventies. They are more often than not torn up and usually need to be replaced, but moving forward, all velcro made in the last two decades does not deteriorate

Plastics research has increased exponentially and for the most part, Velcro will last hundreds of thousands of rip/attach cycles

>good old straps
Slow, cumbersome
>buckles
uhhh, we use buckles unless you are talking about retarded metal ALICE buckles
>laces
No one uses velcro to tie their boots idiot

hardly, but still
>>
>>28340942
We use it for the two chest pockets on our blouses, just little 3/4" squares, because the old blouses with buttons would leave imprints when ironed, and buttons really aren't necessary there because nothing big fits in the pocket anyway

Plate Carriers and IFF patches use Velcro. Some slings use velcro.

ACU is what happens when you have GearQueer officers making the decisions.

They wanted to make a uniform that looked Operator while also supposedly saving money.

So hey! Velcro name tapes, rank, flags, and unit patches. So soldiers don't have to get lots of patches and then have it professionally sewn. Just one set of patches and tapes they can transfer around. Also allowing Pvt Snuffy to sterilize his uniform for that patrol outside the wire.

this. it's pretty disgusting and ruins tons of jackets, backpacks etc

Because someone evidently thought spending up to $20 a uniform for sewing was expensive. Never mind that the uniform blouse lasted a least a year unless you got retarded with the concertina wire.
>>
>>28341278
No, you can't, because embroidery is supposed to look nice, and patches ruin garments after repeated washes

Then you have financial management issues, have you talked to a command financial specialist lately? E-4(5 years in, was an E-5), own a house(tbf $600/mo), 2 motorcycles, a truck(have titles for all 3 vehicles) and a fair amount of firearms. Unless you are an E-1 with less than 4 months in service, you get paid an OK amount where you can eat out sometimes, and annually you do get your clothing allowance. Unless you are one of those faggots that bought a brand new base model sports car or a diesel and jacked it up on 35's.

Ah, same Blouses, plural
>>
>>28340959
technically you can get fresh velcro sewn on but that's probably more hassle than it's worth for more garments. i'm going to assume whatever the contractor uses is not velcro brand velcro

Velcro is already weaponized. The scratchy part can give some serious Indian burns.

While i admit that the basic concept of velcro as something that can be placed or removed on the spot its nice, my entire experience with it (domestic, maybe not great quality, and not much experience) has been that the ability of the velcro to stick can go to shit in 1 or 2 months, just staying quiet, and less if you constantly remove it and place it. Maybe its just me picking shit quality velcro tho, but when you have something thtat you stitch or sew, it wont fucking leave the uniform until there is some kind of nuclear bomb filled with knives that goes in all directions
