I used to carry pic related as a concealed weapon few years ago but sometimes when I need to go out for errands and can't find my pocket knife I will just grab pic related and put it in one of my pouches I have on my jacket.
Very reliable and durable as well which I like also this pic is just from the internet but I do gave it but I won't post it due to personal reasons

it's a matter of practicality mostly I think
if you're looking to affix railroad spikes to a metal bat, you're likely going to weld them and if you're going to weld something, you might as well upgrade past a bat based weapon. aside from that, the barbed wire can dig into a wooden bat on its own and is, subjectively, more intimidating than a metal bat with more metal on it.
then again, if you go for this sort of style with it, it could be bretty neat.
