How do you feel about clear AR's?

They are a toy and should not be used for anything serious.
>>
Gimmick? Only possible use I can think of is for training purposes to show internal working.

I doubt the materials used in their make are stronger, lighter or cheaper than others.
>>
>>28335909
I was not aware this existed

One step closer towards the invisible soldier.

Also, a clear gun will allow the modern soldier to examine his rifle while on the run for obstructions that may interfere with OPSECFORSATNAVRADRUPACSEC so that he can concentrate on situational awareness.

What is it made out of? Acryllic? If it is than it's heavy as fuck.
>>
Its aluminum.

>>

>>28335909
ALON has a tensile strength of around 60,000 PSI.
7075-T6, which is what most receivers are made out of, is 74,000 PSI.

However, considering that there are a lot of receivers are also made of 6061-T6 aluminum, which has a tensile strength of 42,000 PSI, I think this is a pretty neat material to made a receiver out of since it should be able to take the stresses that a lower receiver takes, which isn't a lot.
The only thing I'd worry about is how much cyclical stress the thing can take.

I totally want one.
>>
>>28335909
Seems like they'd be decent for teaching demonstrations so instructors could teach how the insides of guns work.

no prob.
>>
>>28337795
As well as tensile strength, the propensity of the material to cracking and its ability to take cyclic loads is pretty critical.
>>
>>28335909
>>28336554
>>28337795
this is fucking awesome, can we make upper recievers from that too? ones that will not asplode ofc

Brittle enough to be used for bullet proof glass and take multiple .50 cal rounds.

I would have a lower like this with little dimples all over it so I can stick Lego bricks on it.
A real Lego gun.

Receivers don't actually take a lot of load. The upper tends to take more punishment than the lower but not by a whole lot more. The area where all the stresses occur are at the chamber and bolt.
So, I'm sure you could make uppers out of it, but it would look nasty and dirty because of oil and residue.
>>
If it doesn't also glow in the dark, not interested
>>
>>28339496
Well, the buffer tube mating area needs to be pretty tough, that's where 3d printer guys have had the most trouble with printed lowers.
>>
>>28335933
Tennessee arms... But don't think they sell them anymore... Or ever... But i know they demo'ed around at some shows. Polymer... I don't hate it... Would buy one...

they did sell them. i remember seeing them on slickguns for a while. guess they ended up having problems so discontinued them.
>>
>>28336554
No it's not, it's fucking polymer.

http://www.guns.com/2014/06/16/tennessee-arms-co-showing-off-clear-ar-15-prototype-photosvideo/
>>
>>28338150
True. Very few here are engineers or care to understand the mechanical behavior of materials

They just continue to buy polymer lowers and wonder why they keep cracking
>>
>>28338150
That's why I mentioned it...
I had a polymer receiver crack due to temperature fluctuations causing micro-fractures to form after suffering 700 or so rounds worth of stress.
Eventually just cracked sitting in my room.
>>
>>28335909
aw shit
I just remembered in high school, i told someone about lightning links, and that was enough for them to go around shouting about why we should have clear receivers to make sure there's no other parts
>>
>>28341766
Just realized something.

I really want to watch that fire full auto in slow motion.

I got both, sadly it is slight out of spec so it won't mate with the few uppers I have. So right now it's just for educational use only.
>>
>>28342110
How bad is the difference?
>>
>>28342058
Go to Tennessee Arms Youtube channel. It's cool but needs a better camera.
>>
>>28342110
Is it flame polished? And why not complain and get a replacement? If it is out of spec, that's on the manufacturer.

The rear take down pin is slightly off :(

>>28342223
I bought 4 from them before (1 OD and 2 black) - broke the OD one first with fire control detent oval the channel (see pic), contract them for RMA and great customer service and replaced the OD one.

I quickly sold the the OD and one of the black one off then shelf the light weight AR project for few months. Finally decide to pour more money into the light weight AR idea. Then I oval the channel again (see pic).

Customer service again and upgrade to ghost gun. Got back and put it together... fucking A, I gave up on them.

This is how I oval the detent channel - put the rifle together and everything works fine, fire selector move freely and run like how it should but as soon as you fire the weapon even just 1 round. The fire selector will stuck on the fire position and will not move. Only way to fix it and not oval is to loosen the pistol grip to give the spring enough slack so the detent and move down and allow the fire selector to move.

If you force it and it will eventually allow the fire selector to move but it will oval the detent channel.

I've tried with a different LPK and even use my 3 years old fire selector and detent from another rifle still same thing.

Here is another project I did - ambi bolt catch that is not B.A.D. lever like. Works really well.

I could see an upper being more usefull than a lower. you could inspect jams easier
