That's not "Delta Force." It's a support team for SF that went ahead to try to scout out a spot for a base; made of support pogues and commanders, not an actual ODA.

Just FYI.

If you haven't already seen it. Really aside from that - just a matter of not giving up. Most people really don't give a fuck about going through hardship for a piece of cloth - because in their mind, that's the objective.

If you don't want to do it just to do it, likelihood is you're going to VW.

Only other thing to really say is always watch out for your guys. If you see someone lagging, help them. The RIs will cull who needs to be culled - but when they see you're sacrificing to help others out, you're going to gain a little respect.

Ranger School sucks, and a huge mistake people make is making it entirely an individual event. "If I can make it" "If I can just do x" "If I" "I".

Be a motivator, you're not going to be the strongest at every revolution or lane - nobody is expecting that. Give it everything you have, and always be an enabler. Grey man bullshit is how you get fast tracked to a world of shit, on top of negative peers if you even make it to the end.

>>28334990

Kill count doesn't equal operating guy. Rangers don't operate more than 173rd and lots of marine units. Especially not anymore. Congrats on your large budget though
>>
>>28335085
If you have any desire to join any SOF unit, or serve in general, I would highly encourage you to adequately prepare and do everything within your means to do so.

>>28335116
>You ever going to say hmow many people you've killed?
I've been doing this over a decade - I don't exactly keep a logbook aside from long gun related stuff. Aside from that, a lot. But I don't come anywhere close to someone like Reaperguy - and all his are tallied and recorded.

>>28335145
You're right - kill count has nothing to do whether someone is SOF. The mission sets and taskings they're assigned do.

The 75th is a SOF unit that specializes in JFE, DA, and has both battalion and regimental assets that excel in SR.

>Rangers don't operate more than 173rd and lots of marine units.
That is probably one of the stupidest comments I've read in a while. Thanks for sharing.

You go ahead and let me know when the 173rd or any Marine unit is tasked with targeted killings and dismantling terror networks.

As someone who started his career in Big Army - your comment really just makes me think you've either never served, or you're some salty fag who couldn't make the grade.

Either way, there's no point in debating this with you, because no matter your feelings on the point, the 75th is a SOF unit that is operationally under the control of JSOC for 99% of its deployments.
>>
>>28334516

Agreed
>>
>>28335059

Alright not the anon's you've responded to but are you talking about ranger school or RASP, or are those the same thing? Everything I've read seems to indicate they're different beasts entirely, with Ranger School being a leadership training course and RASP (and subsequent acceptance to the 75th Ranger Regiment) being where all the actual operating happens.
>>
>>28335127

indeed my colored friend. you know you want one. that or a porcelain Jennings 10mm (the ultimate hand grenade)
>>
>>28335059
>>28335178

I've been through lots of different schools from different branches I'm really interested to see how Ranger school is. I'll probably see you around if we already haven't in the operational world.
>>
>>28335184
Ranger School is a leadership school that focuses on small unit tactics and gaining some experience in conducting yourself as a leader in austere and highly stressful conditions. Ranger School grants the Ranger Tab, indicating the recipient is Ranger-qualified.

RASP is the pipeline for the 75th Ranger Regiment and entirely different than Ranger School. RASP is there to ensure that candidates have the aptitude to be a Ranger, and a foundation in fundamental skills required to effectively be a part of a Ranger unit. Graduating RASP awards the individual the Ranger Scroll and indicates that he is
A) A Ranger
B) Assigned to a Ranger unit (1st, 2d, 3d or RSTB)

They're not the same thing. You do not need a Tab in order to join the 75th, unless you're joining and you already have rank that would put you in a leadership position.

When a Ranger is promoted and reaches a leadership position of any kind, he is required to attend and pass Ranger School or he will be RFS'd (Removed For Standards) and sent back to Big Army. Promotions also entail completion of RASP 2, with every promotion, to ensure that those in leadership positions are still fit to serve as leaders in the 75th. Fail, and you're RFS'd.

What the other poster was talking about is Ranger School - which is what we were discussing.

While training with regiment I've seen the same standard , if not lower than, that can be expected from an airborne ID, physically and mentally. As for buddy's I have in 1/75 they are looking at a long time without a deployment doing the same bullshit that the rest of the army is doing. Friends in 3/75 who deployed recently came back twice with no CIB. They went to Kabul so that's enough to know they did Jack shit.

BN- abbreviation for "battalion" as in the Ranger Battalion.Often simply refereed to as "battalion" or "the Bat". It's not more difficult for someone already in SF to go Delta. I attended a unclassified recruitment briefing for Delta about 10 years ago. The recruiter was a fully qualified Delta Operator. He told us why he went Delta. He was SF stationed at Bragg. One day he found himself, along with everyone on his ODA and his SGM bushing brooms around the parking lot for spring clean up. That's when it hit him that that was NOT why he went SF. He went straight to the Delta recruiter the first chance he had, and made the cut. The hard part about getting into Delta is the fact that they only have two tryout a year (at least back then they did, that may have changed). If your unit drops the ball on your paper work, you are fucked. Buddy of mine had his paper work ready and was going to go to the selection course a few months before he was supposed to PCS to Korea. S1 left his paper work sitting around and never got to it. He did get his revenge though, he told the BN CSM and he fired the S1 NCOIC.
>>
>>28339049
Damn thx for all the info man. One more question about that twice a year tryout bit, do you have to be stationed at Bragg currently to try out? Couldnt your friend pull something off from Korea?

>>
>>28339081
the tryout is referred to officially as a "advanced land navigation course" not "Delta tryout". No, you don't have to be stationed there to try out. I was at Ft Stupid when I had the Delta briefing, my friend was also there at Ft Stupid. When you meet with a recruiter you go to the post hospital and get a general psych exam to make sure there isn't clear red flags. At the end of the recruiters visit to your post, they hold a modified PT test. You pas those and the recruiter feels good about you, you get the paper work to take back to your unit. They are supposed to handle the travel bullshit for you. If you want a well written book about Delta, read "Inside Delta" by Eric Haney. He was in the second selection class for Delta.

Curious, what are the 'red flags' on the test that wouldn't have already been caught before that? What kind of physical shape would someone need to be in to even be considered?

>joining the Army
here is what I wish someone had told me before I joined. you need to decide two things.
1. am I joining for adventure or for a skill? No, you can't have both. "But mu buddies cousins brother in law was a Ranger and now he makes big bucks doing warrblegarbble" No, you won't.
>adventure
>skill training
>pick only one
2. will this enlistment be one and done? or will I do 20? (or possibly more when they finish gutting the current 20 retirement system.) If you reup even once, get your head right and understand you really just committed to being a lifer. I left after 11 years active and had to start over with nothing but my GI bill and what little savings I had.
>>
I really like the special forces look. Is there any way to get that aesthetic without looking like a faggot?
>>
>>28339334
Never gotten to work with Delta guys. I hope to get the opportunity soon.

Worked with SEALs, MARSOC, and of-course AFSOC. All good guys.
>>
>>28339297
it's a simple questionnaire. but if someone is honest when answering it, things can get "interesting". One of my Joes had to go get a psych eval for a slot to sniper school. The shring that reviewed it and spoke with him decided he was "depressed" and he had to do about 30 days of counseling with the folks at division mental health.
>>
>>28339334
Believe me man i know, IM going for adventure and retirement def a 20 year guy. I was in the Navy for 4 years after high school, it was fun but super amazingly boring. Got out and tried college which i hated for the same reason. 24 now and decided to make the military a career. I was either gonna go back to the navy and try seals or switch to army and do 18x which i am 90% sure is what i am gonna do.

>>28339379
well, if you are prior service, then most of the bullshit is already familiar to you. just wrapped up in a diff colored package.

Interesting. Why is "depressed" in quotations? Why do you think that happened?

I'm a 22 year old that has found more and more that I might like a military way of life more than what I've been trying, and that it's just as much a part of my soul as my other aspirations. I'd want to shoot for SF, being as everyone probably does, so I'm trying to figure out exactly what that career path might look like and what might fuck me over down the line should something go wrong, so something like that sounds important to get a grasp on.

>Is many possibles that rustbucket look as potato Aэpoфлoт cold war shit or Lord of War late vietnam era DC-3 type prop job.

I'm almost certain that it's an Antonov, but I don't think it's an AN-26. The fuse/wing blending seems more pronounced than the -26. Either way, it's far from a potato and perfect for their needs.

Of more interest is the paint job...

this was before 9/11, so it was peace time Army, and shit in our Inf unit was always stupid. We were pissed at least once a month, chain of command sucked. Hell, our unit even had a "blue light special" pulled on us once. That was funny really, when the brought out the dogs and went through the barracks they found like 5 pounds of weed in one guys room, and a 14 y/o runaway in another guys room. He wasn't so much "depressed" as just stuck in a shitty situation.

Interesting, that's fucking crazy. I get that, then. Were you SF, at the time? Or did I misread the earlier posts? That's kind of my point of contention trying to figure out the career path, too. I thought Rangers were SF, though I suppose they would be somewhat individually stationed. What's just basic "Special Forces" then? How about the AF Combat Controllers and Pararescue? I'm just a little confused on the structure, is all. Thanks for the good info.

Also, I figured. I've heard tales of Ft. Stewart so I made that jump anyhow, it's a wonder it has apparently been such a consistent shitshow. Wonder why.

Check out the Sigma survival academy guys as they know their shit. SERE as I teach it is focused on military application. So realize you'll have to tailor a lot of your shit to end of world, shtf etc etc. Here are some main ones

Survival
>maintain 98.6
>use natural materials if you can, preserve man made shit
>purify your fucking water, boil it. Alternatively a dropper with bleach it in will do the trick

Evasion
>fucking melt into your environment
>don't create big shadows on yourself
>think about smell
>when moving, move like you're hunting. Every 50 steps : Stop, Look, Listen, Smell

Resistance
>[redacted]
>[redacted]
>[redacted]

Escape
>get the fuck out of there by doing [redacted]
>>
>>28336890
That's fine... I'll talk to whoever I want and that doesn't change facts. The same thing said by every single ranger I've run into.

"Fuck no they would never leave RRC. That's bullshit man."

Whatever guy. A real silent professional is silent. Not spouting their tails of valor and their cool guy "opsec" hints for civvies online. "Rangers" on 4chan are the bigges faggots this board has to offer besides tripfags and this guy is both.

hey buddy, you talked to me about a month ago regarding cross-training to SERE, i got ahold of some people and our only instructor on base and just don't think I can make the switch. Reason being I enjoy being with my wife and dog too much, our guy on base said for the last 5yrs he's probably spent 3+ away from his family.
Any input on that? Maybe I'm just not cut for this shit.

NBC just tonight misreported for the umpteenth time that Lakwon in chicago was unarmed before evil white policeman shot him -- when the motherfucker had a knife. Heard NPR misreport this fact a couple weeks ago and had to correct themselves the next day. They really don't care about facts just agenda, so I don't trust them NBC can fuck themselves.

You'll have to rely more on other senses. Honestly a good sense of hearing is what I rely on most. When you do your halts make sure your entire party stops so that you have absolute silence.

Wordless communication is a must as well. Hand signals, etc etc.

Yep, there's stupid people in every country on every walk of life. Although comparing Russian regulars to Delta isnt accurate from the standpoint of OPSEC. Delta should know better, or this actually is showing a serious lack of training or advisement on what to do about stuff like this. The military might not actually be telling soldiers what to do about social network faggots that take photos like this. This might be a brand new type of security problem we are seeing that militaries from all over the world need to get on top of.

Reaperguy is a drone operator, right?

My (admittedly macabre) interest has more to do with someone more immediately involved with causing the death of another person. Does/has there come a time where you look back and say "damn, I'm one person and be ause of my actions, x amount of people are no longer living". Not so much guilt or anxiety, but simply realizing the magnitude of the effect your existence has had.
