http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/pm-modi-leaves-for-moscow-russia-offers-new-cheaper-deal-on-sukhoi-fighter-jets/

>Under the new offer, India will have to pay $3.7 billion, instead of $6 billion, for the technological know-how and three prototypes of PAK FA fighters. The proposal awaits a decision from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he meets Russian President Vladimir Putin for the annual India-Russia summit this week.
>But the Indian Air Force (IAF) remains opposed to the idea. A senior IAF official said, “We are not in favour of the FGFA. The PAK FA fighter is too expensive at even this rate, and we are not sure of its capabilities.”

the question would be what is the alternative for India?

They will not get any F-35 and China is a no-go. And it's easily a decade too soon for an own cutting edge aircraft project.

What do they want? An airforce full of Tejas?
>>

Indians realize they have Sukhoi over a barrel. if they don't get what they want and don't go forward with funding then Russia is kind of stuck.

The US has said that it's open to the idea of selling F-35s to India. The only potential stumbling block would be tech sharing and manufacturing rights.

http://www.firstpost.com/world/us-making-a-push-to-sell-radar-evading-f-35-fighter-jets-to-india-121339.html

The US previously considered selling the F-35 to India as far back as 2011, but India's involvement in the PAK-FA complicated things. With that roadblock apparently gone, I don't see why the US wouldn't try again.

Is it true Russians are throwing shit at F-35 so that their plane does not smell as bad? F-35 is actually the best plane ever?

A huge amount of the anti-JSF BS that's on the web can be traced to Russia, so yes.

At this rate India should just buy the J-31 and ask France to install their Snecma M88 of the Rafale to replace the RD-93 flying smokestacks. Thrust would be about same, minus the smoke (not that India cares, though, seeing that their smog is even worse than in China)

No. It is the same engine. They merged in the canards with the wings and enlarged the intakes.

It will not have any meaningful RCS differences with the Su-35S. Which is why the RuAF themselves are purchasing more Su-35S and ignoring the PAK FA. IAF senses something wrong, and so they refuse to sign the $6 billion contract. Now Sukhoi comes back begging for $3.7 billion and it wasn't even signed.

slavs either don't care or aren't trying to match the RCS or the F-22/F-35, because they're not that stupid so as to include straight ducts with exposed compressor blades.

s-ducts exist to do more than just make sure the fan blades aren't raping your RCS, m8.

And my point is that you don't have to be an expert in VLO tech to be able to look at a few design choices of the PAKFA and just say wat, which is why I said they either don't care or weren't trying to reduce RCS that much, because slavs believe it or not actually have some pretty bright minds and I refuse to believe they'd seriously allow this bullshit into the airframe if they actually wanted a competitive RCS.

F-35 comes with limitations and strings attached.

Supposedly if you are not a member of NATO and buy the F-35, then you have to get approval from the Pentagon before using it. Rafale comes with no such strings.

Indians don't give anything to the Russians anyway, because they might give it to China who gives it to Pakistan. Israel is the one who hands over our secret tech for money.

How much do they import from the Euro's?

Look at their trade balance in a year to see what the effects of the devaluation in 2014 did. Usually it gets worse at first and then gets a lot better as people switch to their country's goods and the exporters undercut foreign exports.
Look at Japan 2013-2014 for an example.

>literally the geometry of the aircraft is all we need to get a feel for it

But that's wrong for a long time now.

F-35 costs so much because the entire structure (both internal and external) of the plane is optimized to reduce radar signature.

The radiation absorbing elements are basically "baked" into the materials used on the plane.

The turbine blades are 3D laser sintered and hollow(ish) inside for dem weight savings.

The American taxpayer has not spent his money in vain. The amount of new solutions developed in the F-35 is huge.

T-50 fails at stealth because it's just a slightly better Su-27, made from the same old 4th generation materials.

That and Russia simply not having the tech. Or the money. Development costs increase exponentially between aircraft generations.

Indians are pissed because Russia has missed every fucking deadline and it's not even sure, if the end product will be better than a second hand F16s with upgrades.

That's the problem. Russia doesn't produce enough of nearly everything to cover their needs, smuggling is on the rise and the few legitimate import sources left are free to price gouge. The propaganda mill is working overtime to maintain that "Russia against the world, buckle up people" mindset, but sooner or later people will get tired living off buckwheat porridge and Putin's cum. It's funny that you guys keep saying Russia can't produce food. Russia has an analogue for nearly all kinds of foods and the producers will gladly take over the place imported foods by simply expanding business and hiring more people.

The reason they couldn't expand isn't because of Russia can't make food, it was because of competition. With no French cheese to compete, Russian cheese takes over.

90% of USA and Brazil is used for farming right? Yet both are some of the largest food producers on earth.

>When the ruble is high, most people are going to buy cheap but quality imported goods rather than domestic goods. A blogger from Russia writes that Belarusian suppliers have set dollar prices for the goods his company has been regularly buying. As a result the company didn’t hesitate to opt out of Belarusian goods in favor of their domestic equivalents.
>Here’s another example: an entrepreneur built a plant that produces refrigeration and ventilation equipment. Only 50% of its capacity was being utilized. But towards the end of 2014 the demand has grown so much that they can’t even possibly satisfy it. And there are heaps of similar examples. Manufacturing in Russia now gets its chance to stay alive!
http://investazy.com/blog/337.php

>Some parts of Russia’s food sector are booming, with meat and cheese production up sharply. Miratorg and Cherkizovo, two of the country’s largest meat producers, reported higher revenues and profits for last year. Miratorg is rapidly growing the production of high-yield beef, with the help of a $425m loan from VEB, the state-run bank.
The chemicals industry has also benefited from the weak rouble, with fertiliser producers such as Acron Group and PhosAgro reporting stronger results.

>"I would be disappointed if the sanctions were cancelled and I think for Russia this is quite a healthy process honestly," he said, speaking to CNBC from SPIEF. "I see that quite a lot of production has shifted from Ukraine into Russian companies and that's worth tens of billions of dollars and also agriculture is on the rise. So, while it's somewhat painful - like moving out of your parents' home for the first time - it's necessary and it's healthy."

Should we call it the "Silent Flanker" for accuracy?

Has there ever been any USA pilot who defected to a slav country in the entire history of the world? I seem to only recall slavs defecting to the West.
>>
>>28341848
Most of the western defectors tended to be spies who were either already double agents or were promised a lot of money by the Soviets.
>>
>>28336146
The reason that Russian sources of goods were not chosen, over Western imports is because the Western products were viewed as delivering superior value.

Now that Russians are no longer able to choose to buy those things they had decided were better values, they must choose what is the new best-value.

So the welfare of individual Russians has gone down.

Literally no one said that. It doesn't even make sense when a large number of J-11s are Su-27 level. 24 planes isn't even significant so the reason of the purchase is likely just to have a look at the TVC of the Su-35.
