Most $600+ AKs are significantly more reliable than cheap shitty AKs.

I'm sorry you're poor.
>>
>>28320331
Import bans, historical/name value, bullshit laws and regulations.

It sucks, but that's just where we're at right now.

I don't get it either. You can get a cheap AR or a pretty good SKS for less. People like AKs for the image and name, historical value, etc. There are worse examples of this (like the 1911, etc.) but AKs are no longer much in the "gun for the money" department.

>>28320445
I think OP is making a legitimate point I can't justify the relative high price of AKs.
>>
There's always vz.58, not sure if it scales up.
>>
>>28320391
those are the cheap AK's. prices are going up for annoying reasons that have not been mentioned.

possibly >>28320414
>>
AK's are the new "in" thing, thus inflated prices. Barring something stupid like another sandy hook or god forbid an AWB, they'll fall in price again in a couple year and probably be down to where they were a couple years ago. That said, quality costs and it's almost impossible to get a good AK into the states anymore with Russia and China having trade embargoes. There's plenty of range toy AK's that are American made but they're all garbage compared to a proper comblock one.

Sturdy milled receivers on C39s and Arsenals

Unless it comes with a pile of ammo and accessories, or beautiful laminated furniture, no stamped AK should be over $600
>>
>>28320922
And then there's this retard.

>daily reminder that stamped is superior in literally every way unless you expect your gun to be run over by a fucking bulldozer

Right now it's still decked out in polymer. Maybe one day I'll get some nice wood furniture.

>>28320916
Somehow I doubt any milsurp will go down in price.
>>
>>28320675
OP doesn't understand import bans and manufacturing costs. AKs were cheap when they came from countries that aren't America and parts kits didn't need their barrels destroyed to be imported. Since the Russian sanctions are never going away, and the ATF will never let you own foreign barrels again, there are no more cheap AKs.
>>
>>28320726
The vz is pretty neat, but the AK is definitely much more durable and worth getting over the vz. Mind you, the only AK I could possibly have as a Canadian is a $3800+ valmet.

>implying there is a single reason beyond meming why they aren't $450ish

There are AR kits that require more milling and parts yet are about that price. For a someone with a who claims a materials science degree you really don't get basic shit.

>he has never bent his own flats using a jig
>he has never spot welded rails
>he will never know the labor of heat treating receivera, barrel pressing, and riveting trunnions with a 10 ton press

Oh do tell us, barbie gun maker, how cheap a rifle should really be.
>>
I have no justification.
>>
>>28321483
>he has never mined iron and chrome
>he has never processed tons of alumna ore into billets
>he has never forged and rifled his won barrels
Gee, it's almost like a factory set up for it makes things cheaper than a hobbyist making his guns one at a time.
>>
Had a laugh at everyone in this thread, not so much because everyone started shouting poorfag but because everyone got so defensive. I swear the one person in this thread that actually owns one started petting the thing when he read blasphemy.
>>
>>28321443
Lets put this in 3rd grade terms for you.

>there's not a lot of quality AK's left in the US
>US made AK's are not quality
>there is a demand for quality AK's
>low supply and high demand means prices rise
>low supply coupled with zero production or importation means prices rise even more

>things a hobbyist couldn't possibly do!

Its funny seeing barbie gun owners getting mad that they cant actually process the basic materials neccessary to even build a simple receiver.

How's that drill press working, making your %80's?
>>
>>28321613
I'm not saying you need a fucking factory to mak an AK I'm sayig there isn't anything in the production that is inherently expensive.

Hell, people have made rigs out of All-Thread and blocks of steel to press and headspace barrels into trunnions and heat treated with brake cleaner and a pots and I respect the fuck out of those crazy bastards and I'm not sure why you think I'm mad.

You are mad because all the hard work is done on a barbie gun.

Almost every barrel has an extension pre installed, making head spacing nearly useless.

Every receiver works with an almost infinite combination of parts, with no real work involved other than barrel nut torque.

Every bolt fits every barrel, every carrier just works, and every piece requires basic tools that any cash wielding person can get for under $100.

Face it, the AR is so overengineered, they have to produce volume to even stay in business in today's market so every fudd, bubby and grandma can help keep unoriginal companies afloat, while the market for REAL, hand tooled weapons is stifled by importation restrictions and import tariffs.

There is a reason the rest of this violent and chaotic world doesn't rely on Lego guns.
>>
>>28321722
I am also pretty drunk right now, and angry that good imports cost so damn much.

I want $90 parts kits again.
>>
>>28321722
You seem really mad, m8.
