Hi.
I'd like to know more about the American Civil War. Is there a book or a documentary that you would recommend ?

the war could've been over very quickly if Mcclellan wasn't such a bitch.
Yankees gargle cock and use a biproduct to lord over the south.

The Civil War series of videos by Ken Burns is a great place to start.

>the war could've been over very quickly if Mcclellan wasn't such a bitch.
People loved him for that, though. Remember that everyone back then thought that the war was just a big bluff to stave off abolition.
Killing Lincoln is breddy gud. Not at all what I was expecting from Bill O'Reilly.

>trusting a TV celebrity to teach history
You're retarded; that's like trusting Will Smith to write a book on nuclear physics.

Literally one of the most boring wars in history.
Ken Burns' 1990 documentary is the go-to gold standard for basic introduction.
If you want to read instead of just watch, try Shelby Foote's 3 volume narrative history of the Civil War--he's featured in Burns' film
If you want to read a novel that does a breddy gud job explaining Gettysburgh, try Simon Schama's The Killer Angels

Bitch he co-wrote it with a real historian, and it's accessible enough to interest a noob.

The last scene in that documentary where they read the passage from Sgt. Barry Benson's journal is one of the most moving in all of cinema for me especially after watching the whole series. I honestly teared up.
