How well would this do as an air to air weapon in WWII?

Mounted on a fighter?

Mounted in turrets on a bomber?

What about its 12.7mm brother, the GAU-19?

The M61?

the gyroscope effect of the rotary engine already make fly, and aimming a nightmare
now add 6 spinning metal tube and you have something unflyable

>the gyroscope effect of the rotary engine already make fly, and aimming a nightmare

Then how were so many planes shot down in air to air combat?

>now add 6 spinning metal tube and you have something unflyable

The weight of those tubes are pretty insignificant compared to the weight of the aircraft.
>>
Wouldn't they consume all the ammo the planes can carry pretty quickly?
>>
>>28316675

Pretty poorly, because the effective range and size of the projectile is pitiful compared to other weapons which were actually used.

Miniguns are great if you're shooting at things on the ground, but for aerial combat you want something big that goes far so you can tear through the enemy's aircraft.

>The M61?

Considering that this is the weapon we use today in this role, I'd like to advance the idea that you may in fact be at least semi-retarded.
>>
Maybe on something heavy like a yb-40 even then only on like the top current or top waist.

Considering air combat today is completely different than it was WWII I'd like to advance the idea that you may in fact be at least semi-retarded.

Is that why modern aircraft fight with 203mm?

I that time It would use too much ammo, We could only maybe use one or two in any engagement. Other wise we would not have the ammo needed elsewhere,

I think the biggest problem might be that the gun and its ammunition are so fucking heavy that a prop fighter might not be able to carry both the Vulcan and enough 20x102mm to make it useful. It would be a 10/10 anti-bomber weapon though.
>>
>>28316708
You have no clue what you are talking about. Prop rotation is not terribly significant, and the barrel rotation of the m134/gau-19 would be entirely negligible. Recoil would be far more noticeable.

M134s would be just as bad for fighter armament as the rifle caliber machine guns the brits had on their planes, but would probably do fine for defensive armament on light bombers and dive bombers. It would essentially be like a 2 MG81z pairs.

GAU 19 would be good, but probably not worth the complications. Pretty sure the AN/M3s weighs less and already shoots really fucking fast.

Regardless, anyone who wouldn't remove slav with more than a dozen miniguns strapped to their plane is a faggot

>Not shooting down bombers from 2k away with a 203mm howitzer
>>
>>28316738
Aircraft in wwii usually waited until they were within 300m to open fire. Many pilots set convergence to 250m or even 200m. I think such a weapon would be fine, but a 20mm cannon might be preferable. Wouldn't discount two or three gau-19s as useless, especially in the pacific. One issue I could see would be having to mount them on the wings of prop craft, as having to time it to pass through a prop would make RoF pointless and provide no real advantage over an m2 or m3. More expensive, too.

Learn what samefagging is before you blurt it out like a god damn potato faced cookie wrangled.

The highger caliber i know being used by airplanes is the 105mm of the AC130 spectre-u to shoot.
Today is used the 30mm caliber...
>>
>>28317408
The hispano cannons also were heavy.
>>
>>28317529

Only viable fighter I can think of putting it on would be a P38. Maybe a P61 or on some B25s Mosquitoes or Beaufighters. Not much point though.
>>
>>28317503

Rotary guns weigh less than conventional ones outputting equivilant RoF.
>>
>>28316708
Mount two of them side-by-side spinning in opposite directions to balance the torque.
