Bayonet trainer thing they used was too short. Though to be fair once you get inside of the bayonets reach, it's a heck of a lot easier to kill the bayonet user. It's like using a polearm as I understand it. Good if you can keep the opponent away, not so good if they get in your reach.

As long as the nugget is empty then my money would be on the Samurai.
Weapons are second to training and competence always and a Soviet will have 1% of the training in hand to hand combat a Samurai would.
If it was two neckbeards then the nugget would have the advantage it has reach with it's length and it has weight in the bind so could very effectively parry the katana but a Samurai is trained to fight men with spears and probably has done so far more than he's ever fought men with swords in actual battle and those spears would have been much longer and wielded by a combatant much better versed in their use.
