How much ammo is enough?
Just started stocking up and so far I have roughly
1800 rounds of 7.62x39mm FMJ and hollow point
1000 rounds of 7.62x54mmR FMJ and a couple of game rounds
Couple hundred of 20 gauge, 30-30, .22 LR and .380.
When should I stop? 5000 for each? Or never?

Pic related but not mine
>>
>>28306247
You can never have enough. Ammo is like currency and does well as an investment.
>>
Enough to sustain yourself for a year without restocking. If you shoot 100 rounds a week, then 5,200 rounds. That would give you enough to ride out any panic buying without it affecting your shooting habits. More is always better but that's a good starting point
>>
>>28306247
If you owe your ammo dealer more than your annual income from buying so much, you may have too much.

There is no such thing as too much ammo

Depends on what you want it for, For stocking up for range days, see >>28306335
If you are hording for shtf then If you are going to stay in one place, All the ammo.
If you are going to be moving, only as much as you can carry.

in what possible situation would keeping that much fucking ammo in your house be feasible. SHTF? after you pop off some rounds from your window, your house is going to get molotov'd when its dark. and if youre not defending your house 24/7 somebody is gonna take your shit. keep a couple hundred in your house, bury the rest in multiple caches.
also stick to one ammo brand, type and stockpile it. you dont want to be shooting different POI's from mag to mag.
a guy who knows his rifle and is confident in his zero with 300 rounds > some retard with 7 ak's 10 ar's and 23 mosins with a mish mash of every ammo known to man

THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS.

Never in my life will I understand why "preppers' or these "armory" hoarders even bother in a suburban or conventional American style home. If you were beligerant acting , or One was corrupt or desperate enough, literally setting your house on fire would be a 2 hour task at most, minutes in the least. no body wins then. Best to try and be a decent purchase and realize the position of power having ammo as a bargaining chip would be in a crisis. Because either way, if "they" knew you had it and "they" wanted it....brother........ they would have it. ya dig?

>>28306247
I envy you. Personally I would keep going as long as you can store it.
>>
>>28306247
I believe you should have roughly 2000~ rounds per firearm you own, or at least per caliber you own, if you really want a limit. I personally don't think you should put a limit on yourself besides your actual physical storage capacity.

>Never in my life will I understand why "preppers' or these "armory" hoarders even bother in a suburban or conventional American style home.

It's called High Volume Shooters. When you enjoy shooting and/or have a training job of sorts, you generally shoot around 300 to 500 rounds a month per gun you own to be truly proficient in it to train others and not get rusty. And the reason you stockpile to this amount slowly is so that you buy cheap and don't get fucked by panic-driven economics, or, due to wacky ATF decisions saying you can't import this shit no more.

Why the living fuck are you going to make your training ammo hard to get?

You don't have to be some fucking prepper to have a stockpile, you jerks.

Same. Generally only if homeboy was a threat. Otherwise I have no issue banding up with neighbors, everyone benefits from working together. But these people thinking they'll take on the world is funny to me. Depending on terrain you can get pretty close to most dwellings without being seen, and then it's just a waiting game.

>How much ammo is enough?
Enough ammo is being able to comfortably ride out an ammo panic lasting for years.
The one big surprise to me is how long this 22lr crap has lasted. IDK why that's such a hot round to stockpile for anyone, seeing as how it's probably the last cartridge on anyone's ban list.

This. In 2008 I was really low on .380.

Never again.

Also the panics also had the thing of 40, 20g, 243/270 always in stock on the shelf. I need to get me a 270.
>>
>>28310713
>>28310776
>Has never heard of a safe
Also, what exactly are you expecting we do? Also, just call the fire department/911. Unless we're talking about SHTF, in which case these people either have amazing throwing arms to throw over my wall, broke into the property and are more than allowed to be shot, or have a fucking RPG in which case why am I fucking bothering? Are they going to be actively trying to set my house on fire while I'm shooting the shit out of them? No, they're probably going to keep some distance, and bullets travel further than glass bottles, I don't care if you pitched in highschool.

Who the fuck do you think we're protecting ourselves from again? Fucking Russian spetsnaz? No, we're protecting ourselves from ignorant monkey dindus who are going to chimp out.

Also, why would they burn my house, property, and everything I own if they want to own it? That's like burning a car before fucking stealing it.

>If you're not defending it 24/7 someone will steal it

Might as well not have locks on my car then, since if I'm not in it 24/7 someone will easily break into it. Also, if we're talking about SHTF, wouldn't I or a family member be home basically 24/7?

I'll take, "Military Tactics, for 250, Alex."

"These tactics are used to deny resources and infrastructure to the enemy and surrounding populations."

"What is scorched earth?"

Ding-ding-ding, I'm the winner.

Dindus can't into scorched earth
>>
>>28313178
I never do just assume those are 100% full.

for SHTF purposes the best estimates I have read say "start at 30k in the caliber you intend to shoot and aim to hoard 150k essp in a group setting"

Yeah, these kinds of shelves are shockingly strong. We had similar ones at the auto racing shop I used to work at, and they never had trouble holding hundreds of cans of oil or other fluids, engine blocks, differentials with fluid in them, etc.

Not really such a thing. General rule is to buy a few boxes every month until you are personally satisfied with your stock. Don't panic buy and only buy in bulk when it's actually a good deal. Try to account for your shooting habits too. Shot 300 rounds last month? Buy 320. That sort of thing.
>>
>>28314891
Just to clarify, I didn't say I didn't believe they were full, I just don't assume it.
If I had boxes like that, I'd be using ammo from them so they probably wouldn't be full.
>>
>>28314913
Yeah they aren't all completely full because I do use the ammo. To be completely honest I found the full cans to put it the picture.

10,000 rounds per weapon per person per day for 100 years.

My humble little stock pile. I think you need to have a years worth of ammo at any given time. Just in case a panic happens, you can still go shoot.
>>
>>28315841

Time to invest in some surplus steel 50 cal ammo cans. They're only like 15 bucks/ea used on amazon/ebay.
>>
Even if you had all the ammo, it would not be enough.
>>
>>28315841
it's hard to gauge what a "year" worth of ammo is. for someone who doesnt shoot, it woudl be none but for someone in a shootout it would be potentially millions of rounds.
>>
>>28315859
I need to invest in more space to put ammo cans. I just use my guest bedroom right now, it's just stock piled with guns and ammo.
>>
>>28315865
I second this
>>
>>28315876
Just average up what you think you shoot in a month. Multiply that by 12, and there you go.

I know exactly what I shoot in a year, and it varies by less than 3% year to year.

I shoot about 73,000 rounds a year, most of it birdshot shotshells (competition skeet and trap). As a result, between the 4 gauges I compete with I maintain 6-8k per gauge loaded and on hand and enough reloading components to do at least an additional 30k shotshells across all gauges.

>for someone who doesnt shoot, it woudl be none
A basic combat load is 210 to 300 rounds (7 to 10 30rd magazines). That should be the very minimum you should have if you don't shoot at all and you have a primary semiautomatic rifle.
Semiauto pistols should have around the same.
Bolt-action rifles and shotguns can work with a third of either amount. .22lr is easy to go bonkers with. Bulk CCI is like 3.99 per 50.
>>
>>28315841
That's a lot.
>>
>>28309930
Nah, T-Rex is cool. Fuck Indominus though, that birch can eat 20mm
>>
Enough ammo to shoot comfortably for a year. For me, that's about five hundred rounds of .303 British, 7.5x55 Swiss, and 7.62x54R each.
>>
I plan to stop "hoarding" ammo at around 2k rounds per weapon. I would do what isn't cost prohibitive. Definitely up the .22 LR and 20 guage, because those are going to be the most useful hunting rounds for SHTF.

Get more game rounds for the 7.62x54mmR, maybe 200 or so?

So yeah, maybe a few more thousand rounds all total and I'd say you're set. Shoot liberally, and restock accordingly, rotating anything that isn't sealed in a spam can.
>>
>>28316704
Damn, I only shoot my guns like 3-5 times yearly, so I go through less than 800 rounds. Wish I had the money to shoot more.
>>
>>28317430
I shoot my guns a hell of a lot more than that, but I take like 10-20 shots each time normally.
Back yard, so it's no special event when I feel like blasting a few things.
>>
>>28317388
>those are going to be the most useful hunting rounds for SHTF

This is not true unless you live on an island and need to subsist off of migratory birds. Traps are more effective for small game and birds.

You need to take larger animals to justify the outlay.
